Intel Pentium 5405U

Intel Pentium 5405U är en dualkärnad ULV-processor (Ultra Low Voltage) baserad på Whiskey Lake-arkitekturen som släpptes i Januari 2019. Processorn återfinns i ultrabook-modeller och vanliga laptops. Utöver två CPU-kärnor med HyperThreading och en klockfrekvens på 2.3 GHz (ingen Turbo Boost) innehåller chippet också en HD Graphics 610 GPU och en minneskontrollenhet med stöd för dubbla kanaler och DDR4-2133/DDR3L-1600. Chippet tillverkas i en 14 nm-process med FinFET-transistorer (14nm++).

Arkitektur

Intel använder i princip samma mikroarkitektur som Skylake, så prestandan per MHz är inte annorlunda. Däremot har man arbetat om Speed Shift-tekniken så den kan justera volttal och klockfrekvenser snabbare och effektivare än innan. Jämfört med Kaby Lake Refresh har Whiskey Lake bara en aningen förbättrad process, från 14nm+ till 14nm++.

Prestanda

Prestandan borde vara ganska lik den äldre Pentium Gold 4415U, som har samma klockfrekvenser, och den befinner sig därmed på instegsnivå. Men processorn har ändå tillräckligt med kraft för kontors- och multimediasyften samt aningen mer krävande applikationer. 12.5 Watt-varianten körs endast i 800 MHz och är därför betydligt långsammare.

Grafik

Den integrerade grafikenheten heter HD Graphics 610 (i likhet med HD Graphics 510) och står för "GT1"-versionen av Whiskey Lake GPU:n (Intels 9:e Generation). Den har 12 EU:s (Execution Units) med en klockfrekvens på 300 - 950 MHz och har prestanda som ligger en aning efter det äldre HD Graphics 4400. Endast ett fåtal spel från 2018 går att spela smidigt med låga inställningar.

Energiförbrukning

Med ett specificerat TDP-värde på 15 W (inklusive CPU, GPU och minneskontrollenhet) passar processorn bäst för små laptops och ultrabooks (11 tum eller större). TDP-värdet går också att sänka till 12.5 Watt (cTDP down), vilket minskar både värmeskingringen och prestandan (körs endast i 800 MHz) vilket möjliggör ännu kompaktare designer.
