Intel Core m3-8100Y

Intel Core m3-8100Y är en väldigt effektiv dualkärnad SoC för surfplattor och passivt kylda bärbara datorer som är baserad på Amber Lake-generationen och som utannonserades i Augusti 2018. Processorn består av två kärnor med en klockfrekvens på 1.1 - 3.4 GHz. Tack vare HyperThreading kan processorn hantera 4 trådar samtidigt. Chippet innehåller också en Intel HD Graphics 615 GPU, en minneskontrollenhet med stöd för dubbla kanaler (DDR3L/LPDDR3) samt kodning/avkodning av VP9- och H.265-video. Amber Lake använder samma arkitektur som den som tillverkats i en 14nm+ FinFET-process (ej 14nm++), men har högre klockfrekvenser och ett högre TDP-värde.

Arkitektur

Intel använder i princip en bekant mikroarkitektur från Skylake- / Kaby Lake-generationen, så prestandan per MHz är identisk.

Prestanda

Y-seriens prestanda beror till stor del på datorns/surfplattans kylning och TDP-inställningar, för ihållande belastning. Skillnaderna mellan en Core m3 och en i7 kan därför vara ganska små om värmevärdena är väldigt begränsade. Amber Lake-seriens höga Turbo-klockfrekvenser borde leda till väldigt bra enkeltrådad prestanda under korta perioder.

Grafik

Den integrerade Intel HD Graphics 615 GPU:n har 24 Execution Units (EUs), precis som den äldre GPU:n HD Graphics 515, och körs i kombination med den här processorn med en klockfrekvens på mellan 300 och 950 MHz. Prestandan beror till stor del på TDP-gränsen samt minneskonfigurationen; med snabbt LPDDR3-1866 RAM med dubbla kanaler kan den ibland tävla med HD Graphics 520, men den kan också vara mycket långsammare i andra scenarier. Moderna spel från 2016 kommer bara gå att spela smidigt med lägsta inställningar, om de går att spela överhuvudtaget.

Till skillnad från Skylake har Kaby Lake och Amber Lake nu också stöd för hårdvaruavkodning av H.265/HEVC Main10 med 10 bit färgdjup samt Googles VP9-kodek.

Energiförbrukning

Chippet tillverkas i en gammal 14 nm+ process med FinFET-transistorer. Ett typiskt TDP-värde för Amber Lake Y-serien är angivet till 5 Watt (den tidigare generationen var på 4.5 Watt) och går att justera i båda riktningarna beroende på användningsscenario.
