Utlåtande - Grönare och smalare än någonsin tidigare

Core Ultra X7 CPU och Arc B390 GPU är upp till 70 procent och 150 procent snabbare än de visserligen nedslående Core Ultra 5- respektive Ultra 7-alternativen, utan att behöva köra någon varmare version. Den här avancerade konfigurationen kostar visserligen 400 dollar mer i skrivande stund, men den fördubblar också både RAM-minnet (16 GB till 32 GB) och lagringskapaciteten (512 GB till 1 TB) och är därför värd att överväga, särskilt för grafiska redaktörer eller innehållsskapare.

För ännu mer kraft men lägre effektivitet kanske användare vill överväga förra årets Arrow Lake-drivna Dell 16 Premium som kan erbjuda 20 procent snabbare multi-thread-prestanda och 60 procent snabbare grafikprestanda än till och med toppmodellen 2026 XPS 16-konfigurationen. Tänk bara på att den äldre Dell 16 Premium-designen innebär en tjockare och tyngre konstruktion för att rymma Nvidia GPU.

Det observerade strypningsbeteendet tyder på att processorn sannolikt skulle ha kunnat dra nytta av en starkare kyllösning. Kärntemperaturen nådde 100 C när den stressades innan den minskade klockfrekvensen för att hålla temperaturen i schack. Den konkurrerande Asus ExpertBook Ultra kan upprätthålla högre klockfrekvenser med samma Panther Lake X7-processor för snabbare prestanda än vår Dell.

Samtidigt kostar den lyxiga OLED-panelen ytterligare 150 USD utöver de 400 USD som nämns ovan. Skärmuppgraderingen är mindre rekommenderad jämfört med Core Ultra X7 CPU-uppgraderingen eftersom IPS-panelen redan är ganska stark när det gäller färger, kontrastförhållande och uppdateringsfrekvens. För den nivå av redigering och multimedia som CPU:n och GPU:n riktar in sig på bör IPS-panelen vara tillräcklig för de flesta användare med en stramare budget.

Efter att nyligen ha testat bas Core Ultra 5 325 IPS-konfiguration av den senaste XPS 16, är vi nu redo att ta itu med Core Ultra X7 358H OLED-konfigurationen för att se vilka typer av uppgraderingar och fördelar det dyrare alternativet ger till bordet. Är den högre SKU värd de extra $ 500 till $ 600?

Fallet

Hållbarhet

Nya XPS 16 använder mer återvunnet material än de flesta andra modeller i Dells nuvarande portfölj. Chassit består av 25 till 75 procent återvunnet aluminium tillsammans med 10 procent återvunnet glas för OLED-pekskärmen, 50 procent kobolt för batteriet, 90 procent återvunnet stål för tangentknapparna och 100 procent återvunnet material för förpackningen.

Display

Två displayalternativ finns tillgängliga:

  • 1920 x 1200, 100% sRGB, IPS, beröringsfri, 1 - 120 Hz, matt
  • 3200 x 2000, 100% DCI-P3, OLED, pekskärm, 20 - 120 Hz, DisplayHDR 500, glansig

OLED-alternativet erbjuder flera förbättringar jämfört med den grundläggande IPS-panelen, inklusive en högre inbyggd upplösning, djupare P3-färger, pekskärmsfunktionalitet, HDR500-stöd och kolsvarta kontrastnivåer. Den hanterar också de relativt långsamma svartvita svarstiderna hos IPS-panelen för en renare användarupplevelse.

Att välja OLED innebär dock några mindre nackdelar, såsom högre strömförbrukning, pulsbreddsmodulering och en glansig skärm med mycket reflexer. Dess inbyggda 3,2K-upplösning är också betydligt lägre än 4K OLED-panelen på den äldre XPS 16 design (3200 x 2000 vs. 3840 x 2400).

Maximal ljusstyrka på OLED-panelen toppar på 400 nits i SDR-läge eller 500 nits i HDR-läge enligt våra egna interna mätningar. Således är den billigare IPS-konfigurationen faktiskt något ljusare än OLED-konfigurationen när den visar SDR-innehåll. Synligheten utomhus är därför inte nödvändigtvis bättre med det glansigare OLED-alternativet.

För att dämpa skärmen kommer vissa bärbara datorer helt enkelt att slå på och av bakgrundsbelysningen i snabb följd - en metod som kallas Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . Denna cykelfrekvens bör helst vara oupptäckbar för det mänskliga ögat. Om frekvensen är för låg kan användare med känsliga ögon uppleva spänningar eller huvudvärk eller till och med märka flimmer helt och hållet.

Displayens bakgrundsbelysning flimrar vid 240.2 Hz (i värsta fall, t.ex. med PWM) Flimrande upptäckt vid en ljusstyrkeinställning på 100 % och lägre. Det ska inte finnas något flimmer eller PWM över denna ljusstyrkeinställning.

Frekvensen för 240.2 Hz är relativt låg, så känsliga användare kommer sannolikt att märka flimmer och uppleva ansträngda ögon vid den angivna ljusstyrkeinställningen och nedan.

Som jämförelse: 52 % av alla testade enheter använder inte PWM för att dämpa skärmen. Om PWM upptäcktes mättes ett medelvärde av 7914 (minst: 5 - maximum: 343500) Hz.

Vi ställde in Windows och Dell Optimizer i prestandaläge innan vi körde nedanstående benchmarks.

Processor

Core Ultra Core Ultra X7 358H erbjuder en 60 till 70-procentig ökning av multithread-prestanda jämfört med basmodellen Core Ultra 5 325 eller Core Ultra 7 355 konfigurationer. Tyvärr är Turbo Boost-hållbarheten ofullkomlig, vilket framgår av vårt CineBench R15 xT-stressdiagram nedan där prestandan sjönk med cirka 15 procent efter de första looparna. Den konkurrerande Asus ExpertBook Ultra kan upprätthålla snabbare klockfrekvenser och prestanda med samma Core Ultra X7 CPU i jämförelse.

Den Core Ultra 7 255H i den äldre Dell 16 Premium är betydligt snabbare än Core Ultra X7 358H i den nyare XPS 16 när det gäller flertrådade belastningar.

GPU-prestanda

Den integrerade Arc B390 är betydligt snabbare än basmodellen Graphics 4 Xe3 alternativet i Core Ultra 5-konfigurationen. Det är den snabbaste GPU:n som finns tillgänglig för 2026 XPS 16 eftersom diskreta Nvidia-alternativ inte längre är konfigurerbara. Användare kan förvänta sig en 2,5x ökning av råprestanda jämfört med Graphics 4 Xe3 eller ett 30-procentigt underskott i råprestanda jämfört med den äldre XPS 16 med RTX 4070 grafik. Den är ändå tillräckligt kraftfull för att köra de flesta moderna titlar i 1080p på Medium-inställningar, inklusive Black Myth: Wukong.

Att köra på balanserat läge istället för prestandaläge påverkar inte prestandan nämnvärt. Samtidigt minskar prestandan något med upp till 10 procent om man kör på batteriström, vilket framgår av vår resultattabell Fire Strike nedan.

Stresstest

Processorn ökade till 2,9 GHz, 69 W och 100 C när Prime95-stress kördes, för att sedan sjunka till 2,2 GHz, 40 W och 78 C några sekunder senare, vilket tyder på begränsad Turbo Boost-hållbarhet. Strypningen kompletterar våra CineBench R15 xT-loopresultat ovan och strömförbrukningsbeteendet nedan.

Kanske ännu mer anmärkningsvärt är att kärntemperaturen under belastning är svalare än den långsammare Core Ultra 5-konfigurationen i XPS 16. CPU:n stabiliserades på 78 C och 68 C när Prime95 respektive Cyberpunk 2077 kördes, jämfört med 86 C och 89 C på Core Ultra 5 XPS 16.

Core Ultra X7 OLED-konfigurationen är i allmänhet mer krävande än baskonfigurationen Core Ultra 5 IPS, även när den går på tomgång på grund av OLED-panelen. Att köra Cyberpunk 2077 och Prime95 drar cirka 38 procent respektive 35 procent mer ström. Prestandaökningen uppväger dock vida den högre strömförbrukningen och därför är prestanda per watt fortfarande högre med Core Ultra X7-alternativet.
