Flashig. Asus senaste spellaptop från det övre mittenskiktet är bra på prestanda och visuellt fyrverkeri, men den når inte hela vägen fram när det kommer till servicemöjligheterna. Den unika LED-belysningen borde inte komma på bekostnad av funktioner som man annars hade haft.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

Även om det finns mycket att uppskatta med Asus GL731GU är det svårt att inte ta sig för pannan över några av designvalen. För det första så kommer LED-remsan oväntat nog på bekostnad av servicemöjligheterna då det nu är mycket svårare att ta bort bottenplattan. Om du vill utöka RAM eller lagring får du vara beredd på att försiktigt ta bort och sen återansluta en del riktigt ömtåliga flatkablar. För det andra så finns det ingen anledning till att piltangenterna är så små och ihoptryckta när chassit har en så stor formfaktor, särskilt med tanke på att förra generationens Strix II hade större piltangenter. För det tredje är avsaknaden av separata färgalternativ för LED-remsan och tangentbordets bakgrundsbelysning en brist med tanke på systemets inställningsmöjligheter. Vi förstår att man vill spara tangentspecifik RGB-belysning till de lyxigare modellerna, men det känns särskilt tveksamt för en laptop som kostar runt 15.000 kronor. Till sist så är de ovanligt placerade portarna nog inte för alla, då det inte finns några alls på den högra kanten — vilket är sällsynt för en spellaptop på 17.3 tum.

Bortsett från de förbryllande bristerna vi nämnt ovan så lyckas Strix G GL731 väldigt bra med att fånga kärnprestandan, skärmen och designen hos den dyrare modellen Strix III G731. Den som vill ha samma utséende och spelförmåga som toppskiktsmodellen G731 men inte vill behöva betala för flashig tangentspecifik RGB-belysning eller aluminiumhölje kommer nog tilltalas av GL731. Priset på ca 15.000 kronor för vår konfiguration är ungefär standard för en laptop på 17.3 tum med GTX 1660 Ti-grafik.

En del irritationsmoment håller tillbaka en dator som i övrigt presterar bra. Om du kan komma över ett större fotavtryck, en högre vikt, små piltangenter och användarovänlig service så är GL731GU en av de snyggare mittenskiktsmodellerna i sin storlekskategori.
