HP Omen 17 (2023) recension: Gaming laptop använder RTX 4080

Högklassig spelare. En Core i9-13900HX och GeForce RTX 4080 ger tillräcklig prestanda för videabehandling, rendering och QHD-spel. Den bärbara datorns tangentbord erbjuder också individuell tangentbelysning, sex makrotangenter och mycket utrymme för piltangenterna.

2023-modellen av Omen 17, som är en bärbar dator för avancerade spel, använder samma hölje som vi redan känner till från föregångaren, men innehåller aktuell hårdvara: Den bärbara datorn drivs av Raptor Lake- och Ada Lovelace-chip. HP kombinerar en Core i9 med en RTX 4080 GPU och begär nästan 3 300 euro (3 582 dollar) för hela paketet. Även om många konkurrenter föredrar att använda 16:10-skärmar är HP trogen 16:9-formatet i Omen. Ett positivt drag är att den responsiva 165-Hz-panelen inte visar något PWM-flimmer vid någon ljusstyrka.

Ljusstyrkan och kontrasten på den matta 17,3-tumsskärmen (2 560 x 1 440 pixlar) uppfyller kraven (> 300 cd/m² och 1 000:1). Omen-skärmen erbjuder dock den lägsta ljusstyrkan bland skärmarna från våra konkurrenter. The Legion 7 Pro har den ljusaste panelen här.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

Med Omen 17 erbjuder Hewlett Packard en bärbar dator på 17,3 tum som är inriktad på QHD-spel men som även gör en bra figur i andra tillämpningar som kräver hög prestanda. Testförhållanden

Den förinstallerade programvaran Omen Gaming Hub är den bärbara datorns kontrollcentral. Förutom att du kan välja ett strömläge (se tabell) kan du också undervolta CPU:n och konfigurera en individuell fläktkurva. Eftersom läget "Performance" skapade vissa problem i vår testenhet (konstiga stutters och prestandaförluster) använde vi huvudsakligen strömläget "Balanced" tillsammans med automatisk fläktstyrning. Optimus var aktiverad.

TheCore i9-13900HX(Raptor Lake) består av sexton effektivitetskärnor (ingen hyperthreading, 1,6-3,9 GHz) och åtta prestandakärnor (hyperthreading, 2,2-5,4 GHz), vilket ger totalt 32 logiska CPU-kärnor.

I nätdrift kör processorn CPU-testerna i riktmärket Cinebench R15 med medelhöga till höga (flertrådiga) och höga till maximala (enkeltrådiga) klockfrekvenser. Medan prestandan för single-thread (254 poäng) sjunker något i batteridrift är nedgången i multithreadprestanda betydande (1 303 poäng).

Resultaten i benchmarken ligger på samma nivå (single-thread) som genomsnittet för CPU:n eller lägre (multithread). Sammantaget resulterar läget "Prestanda" endast i en liten prestandafördel, där AIDA-benchmarks gynnas mest. Å andra sidan leder det också till att CPU-hastigheten förblir på en hög nivå vid konstant multitrådsbelastning, vilket CB15-slingtestet visar.

Med hjälp avGeForce RTX 4080gPU för bärbara datorer använder HP den nuvarande nummer två i Nvidias mobila GPU-portfölj. Den har 7 424 shaders, en 192-bitars buss och kan använda snabb GDDR6-lagring (12 288 MB). RTX 4080 är konfigurerad med en TGP på 175 watt (150 W + 25 W Dynamic Boost), vilket är det maximala konfigurerbara enligt Nvidia. Enligt vårt test The Witcher 3 används TGP inte fullt ut.

Benchmarkresultaten ligger under genomsnittet för de RTX 4080 GPU:er som vi hittills har testat. Profilen "Performance" leder till några tillfälliga små ökningar av grafikprestandan. Läget dGPU leder inte till några ytterligare förbättringar. Växling mellan dGPU och Optimus kräver ingen omstart - Advanced Optimus stöds.

Spelprestanda

Omen, som är avsedd för QHD-spel vid höga till maximala inställningar, tillåter även högre upplösningar när motsvarande bildskärm är ansluten. Bildfrekvenserna i de spel vi testade ligger under genomsnittet för alla RTX 4080 GPU:er vi testat hittills. Profilen "Performance" leder till en ökning av bildfrekvenserna som ligger något över genomsnittet. I vissa spel kan dGPU-läget ge en ytterligare ökning.

Utsläpp - Den bärbara HP-datorn producerar mycket buller

Bullernivåer

I vardaglig drift (kontor, Internet) och vid tomgångsdrift hörs de ständigt pågående fläktarna tydligt. Vid hög belastning (stresstest, The Witcher 3) ökar ljudnivån ytterligare och det är möjligt att få upp till 50 dB (A). Läget "Prestanda" leder till en snabbare ökning av ljudnivån upp till maxnivån med den stannar kvar på den nivån. Ljudet består av ett visst surrande tillsammans med en dämpad vissling.

BIOS för Omen innehåller HP:s eget alternativ "Fan always on", som är aktiverat som standard. Att avaktivera detta alternativ leder inte till några förändringar i vår testenhet.

Stresstest

Vårt stresstest med Prime95 och Furmark i konstant drift är ett extremt scenario som vi använder för att utvärdera systemets stabilitet vid full belastning. CPU:n (P: 3,8 GHz, E: 3,2 GHz) och GPU:n (2 till 2,1 GHz) börjar testet med höga klockfrekvenser. Efter en kort tid sjunker CPU-hastigheten till cirka 1,8 GHz (P-kärnor) och 2 GHz (E-kärnor), samtidigt som GPU-hastigheten ökar till 2,3-2,4 GHz.

Effektförbrukning

Strömförbrukningen ligger på normala nivåer för den använda maskinvaran. Under vårt test The Witcher 3 är strömförbrukningen konstant, och under stresstestet sjunker förbrukningen efter några minuter - processorn stryps. Det medföljande nätaggregatet (330 watt) är tillräckligt stort.

Batteritid

Batteritiden för Omen är inte tillfredsställande. Även en kraftfull bärbar dator för spel måste kunna hålla längre i Optimus-drift med ett batteri på 83 Wh. Vi har hittills inte kunnat avgöra om detta beror på ett hårdvaru- eller mjukvaruproblem.

Loggfilerna ger en indikation på problemet: Under körtidstesterna med låg belastning (WiFi, tomgång, video) ska GeForce GPU vara inaktiv och lämna allt arbete till iGPU. GeForce GPU:n kör dock ofta med maximal hastighet här - vid en belastning på 0 %. Enligt GPU-Z leder detta till en strömförbrukning på upp till 45 watt.

Därför bad vi om en ny testenhet från HP för att dubbelkolla detta, men vi har inte fått någon ännu. Så snart vi kan få den kommer vi att testa detta igen.

Slutsats - En solid bärbar dator för spel i toppklass

Med Omen 17 levererar HP en kraftfull bärbar dator med QHD-gaming i det övre segmentet. Med sinCore i9-13900HXprocessor och GeForce RTX 4080gPU för bärbara datorer bör den bärbara datorn även fungera bra inom andra tillämpningsområden som videobearbetning och rendering. En snabb PCIe 4 SSD (1 TB) ger det nödvändiga lagringsutrymmet och garanterar korta laddningstider. Det finns även plats för en andra SSD.

HP Omen 17 (2023) representerar en solid bärbar dator för spel, men den utnyttjar inte sin potential fullt ut.

Processorn och grafikkärnan kan köras med konstant höga klockfrekvenser. Buller- och värmeutvecklingen ligger på de höga nivåer som är normala för den här bärbara klassen. Den bärbara datorn producerar dock för mycket buller i vardaglig drift.

Den matta 17,3-tumsskärmen (QHD, IPS, 165 Hz, sRGB) lämnar ett gediget intryck. Den presterar totalt sett något bättre än FHD-panelen på den likadant konstruerade Omen föregångarenmen sämre än de flesta av konkurrenterna. En Thunderbolt 4-anslutning erbjuder vissa expansionsmöjligheter (dockningslösning, extern GPU). Dessutom kan den också användas för att ladda batteriet med en USB-C-laddare (minst 65 watt, 20 V), och Power Delivery stöds.

På grund av ett eventuellt fel kan vi inte göra en slutlig bedömning av batteritiden i nuläget. Vi kommer att mäta batteritiden på nytt så snart vi får en ersättningsenhet från HP. Eftersom batteritiden knappast har någon inverkan på den slutliga bedömningen av en bärbar dator för gaming, kommer bedömningen att ändras högst obetydligt.

Som ett alternativ kan du ta en titt på följande Lenovo Legion Pro 7 16IRX8H, som kan få ut en högre prestanda från samma CPU/GPU-kombination. Dessutom får den poäng med ljusare skärm i 16:10-formatet.

Omen 17 (2023) är tillgänglig från HP från 1499,99 dollar. En modell som liknar vår testade konfiguration förutom att den har en i7-13700 skulle kosta 2 429,99 dollar i USA.
