HP Omen 16 laptop recension: Ett bra val för gamers även med Zen 4

Ett lyckat helhetspaket. HPs Omen-serie har funnits på marknaden i några år nu. Tillverkaren kombinerar AMD- och Nvidia-hårdvara i den nuvarande 16-tums xf0376ng-modellen. Du kan ta reda på om eller hur väl denna blandning harmoniserar i vår recension.

Omen 16-xf0376ng är för närvarande tillgänglig för strax under 1 900 euro (~ 2026 USD). För detta pris får köpare en banbrytande Zen 4-processor från AMD: Ryzen Ryzen 7 7840HS erbjuder inte bara mycket CPU-prestanda, utan med Radeon 780M har den också en ganska snabb iGPU. Krävande grafikberäkningar tas dock om hand av en GeForce RTX 4070 från Nvidia. Ada-Lovelace-acceleratorn är mer i det övre mellanområdet än i high-end-segmentet på grund av det något magra videominnet (endast 8 GB GDDR6). M.2 SSD skulle också kunna vara större med tanke på att kapaciteten endast är 512 GB. 16 GB DDR5-5600 RAM är dock fortfarande lämpligt för en gaming-notebook från 2023. Skärmen är en matt 16,1-tums IPS-baserad panel med 1.920 x 1.080 pixlar och 165 Hz.

Belysningen (91%) och svartvärdet (0,35 cd/m²) är helt identiska, men AMD-utgåvan har en något bättre kontrast (1000:1 mot 888:1) på grund av den något högre ljusstyrkan (338 istället för 296 cd/m² i genomsnitt). Båda enheterna kan dock inte riktigt nå upp till konkurrenterna. Framför allt drar OLED-panelen på Aero 16 ifrån i många discipliner om du kan komma överens med en glansig yta och skärmflimmer.

Men tillbaka till Omen 16: Betraktningsvinklarna är bra som typiska för IPS, så bilden förblir ganska stabil även från en lutande position. Förresten, om du behöver de mest exakta färgerna som möjligt, bör du utföra en kalibrering eller ladda ner och använda ICC-filen som vi länkade bredvid belysningsgrafiken (förutsatt att det är samma Full HD-panel).

Display response times show how fast the screen is able to change from one color to the next. Slow response times can lead to afterimages and can cause moving objects to appear blurry (ghosting). Gamers of fast-paced 3D titles should pay special attention to fast response times.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

In comparison: 54 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 19014 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 3846000) Hz was measured.

Omen 16 finns tillgänglig i ett stort antal olika konfigurationer. Paletten sträcker sig från GeForce RTX 4050 upp till GeForce RTX 4080. Som redan nämnts använder HP nuvarande CPU-modeller från AMD och Intel. Vårt granskningsprov är placerat i det (övre) mittfältet när det gäller pris och prestanda.

Testförhållanden

Som sig bör för en bärbar gamingdator inkluderar tillverkaren omfattande system- och tuningprogramvara på datorn. I Omen Gaming Hub kan man bland annat justera tangentbordets bakgrundsbelysning, grafikomkopplingen (hybrid eller separat) och prestandaprofilen (se skärmdumpar). Eftersom ljudnivån vid användning av prestandaläget inte står i proportion till den (något) bättre 3D-prestandan och enheten redan är ganska närvarande i viloläge, utförde vi alla mätningar i "Balanserat" läge. Det finns också ett "Eco"-läge, men det är mycket likt den testade inställningen när det gäller prestanda och utsläpp.

Processor

Ryzen 7 7840HS kommer från AMD:s Phoenix-generation och har 16 MB L3-cache, en maximal klockfrekvens på 5,1 GHz och 8 kärnor, som kan hantera upp till 16 trådar parallellt tack vare SMT. 4 nm-modellen är placerad i mitten av benchmarkfältet mellan Ryzen 7 7735HS i Acer Nitro 16 (fortfarande baserad på Zen 3+) och Ryzen 7 7745HX i Lenovo Legion Pro 5. Dator på Core i7-13700H(X)-baserade datorer är oftast lite snabbare. Detsamma gäller för Core i9-13900H av Gigabyte Aero 16. Framför allt måste vi berömma den konstanta prestandan. I vår Cinebench-loop levererade Ryzen 7 7840HS också mycket liknande priser på lång sikt.
