HP Omen 16 (2022) recension: Smidig bärbar dator för spel med högupplöst 165 Hz-skärm

De som letar efter en kraftfull bärbar dator för spel i prisklassen runt 2 000 euro har kanske redan stött på Omen 16-b1090ng. HP har inte bara en blixtsnabb Intel Core i7-12700H i den vackert designade 16-tummaren, utan även en helt ny GeForce RTX 3070 Ti med 8 GB VRAM. Detta åtföljs vidare av 32 GB DDR5 RAM (2x16 GB) och en 1 TB NVMe SSD i M.2-format. Som skärm används en matt IPS-panel med 2560x1440 pixlar och 165 Hz. HP har valt Windows 11 Home som operativsystem.

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

Processor

Core i7-12700H är en 14-kärnig processor från Intels Alder Lake-serie med 6 prestandakärnor (inklusive Hyper-Threading) och 8 effektivitetskärnor (utan Hyper-Threading). Modellen med 10 nm har också en L3-cache på 24 MB.

Den nya processorn har lätt spel mot Core i7-11800H hos föregångaren, som "bara" erbjuder 8 kärnor. Enligt prestandaanalysen är den ökade fördelen cirka 26 procent. CPU-prestandan hos i7-12700H sjunker dock något efter ett tag, vilket vår Cinebench-slinga visar. Överlag är CPU-hastigheten likartad med MSI GS66 Stealth, som är utrustad med samma CPU. Lenovo Legion 5 Pro presterar något bättre och Aorus 17 något sämre.

GPU

Med GeForce RTX 3070 Ti har Nvidia tagit fram en något starkare version av GeForce RTX 3070. Återigen erbjuder detta 8 GB GDDR6 VRAM, men 5 888 i stället för 5 120 shader-enheter, vilket lovar en viss prestandaförstärkning. Hastigheten hos de nuvarande Nvidia GPU:erna beror dock till stor del på kylningen och den inställda TGP. Med tanke på 115 watt väljer HP här samma nivå som med RTX 3070 från föregångaren.

Skillnaden i prestandaskillnaden är därmed begränsad. Enligt de syntetiska grafiktesterna lönar sig inte uppgraderingen, med resultat som mestadels ligger på samma nivå som den gamla Omen 16. De bärbara RTX 3070 Ti-datorer som vi hittills har testat har i genomsnitt varit något snabbare.

Spelprestanda

Situationen är liknande när det gäller spelprestanda, där den nya Omen 16 knappt skiljer sig från sin föregångare. I grund och botten är GeForce RTX 3070 Ti tillräckligt snabb för att köra alla moderna spel smidigt i den ursprungliga upplösningen 2 560x1 440 med hög till maximal detaljnivå. När det gäller mycket krävande titlar som t.ex Dying Light 2 och/eller - om de stöds - aktiverad ray tracing kan den bärbara datorn få det svårt.
