De som letar efter en kraftfull bärbar dator för spel i prisklassen runt 2 000 euro har kanske redan stött på Omen 16-b1090ng. HP har inte bara en blixtsnabb Intel Core i7-12700H i den vackert designade 16-tummaren, utan även en helt ny GeForce RTX 3070 Ti med 8 GB VRAM. Detta åtföljs vidare av 32 GB DDR5 RAM (2x16 GB) och en 1 TB NVMe SSD i M.2-format. Som skärm används en matt IPS-panel med 2560x1440 pixlar och 165 Hz. HP har valt Windows 11 Home som operativsystem.

Detsamma gäller för färgutrymmet, som är knappt 100 % sRGB. HP skulle kunna förbättra färgprecisionen lite. Vid leverans har skärmen en viss grön nyans, men detta kan korrigeras genom kalibrering (vår ICC-fil är länkad bredvid belysningsgrafiken).

Tack vare den matta ytan och den solida belysningen är Omen 16 inte rädd för ljusare miljöer.

De relativt goda svarstiderna och den goda stabiliteten i betraktningsvinkeln förtjänar också beröm - som man kan förvänta sig av IPS-paneler.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

Perfomance

I sin nuvarande konfiguration ligger Omen 16 i det övre segmentet. De välbalanserade komponenterna bör ge tillräckligt med kraft för alla möjliga tillämpningsscenarier under de kommande åren.

Testvillkor

Den förinstallerade Omen Gaming Hub gör det möjligt för köparna att spela runt med olika aspekter av systemet. Särskilt relevant är menyn Power Control, som innehåller två strömlägen. Bortsett från batterimätningarna utfördes alla tester med profilen Performance (automatisk värmereglering).

Processor

Core i7-12700H är en 14-kärnig processor från Intels Alder Lake-serie med 6 prestandakärnor (inklusive Hyper-Threading) och 8 effektivitetskärnor (utan Hyper-Threading). Modellen med 10 nm har också en L3-cache på 24 MB.

Den nya processorn har lätt spel mot Core i7-11800H hos föregångaren, som "bara" erbjuder 8 kärnor. Enligt prestandaanalysen är den ökade fördelen cirka 26 procent. CPU-prestandan hos i7-12700H sjunker dock något efter ett tag, vilket vår Cinebench-slinga visar. Överlag är CPU-hastigheten likartad med MSI GS66 Stealth, som är utrustad med samma CPU. Lenovo Legion 5 Pro presterar något bättre och Aorus 17 något sämre.

Med GeForce RTX 3070 Ti har Nvidia tagit fram en något starkare version av GeForce RTX 3070. Återigen erbjuder detta 8 GB GDDR6 VRAM, men 5 888 i stället för 5 120 shader-enheter, vilket lovar en viss prestandaförstärkning. Hastigheten hos de nuvarande Nvidia GPU:erna beror dock till stor del på kylningen och den inställda TGP. Med tanke på 115 watt väljer HP här samma nivå som med RTX 3070 från föregångaren.

Skillnaden i prestandaskillnaden är därmed begränsad. Enligt de syntetiska grafiktesterna lönar sig inte uppgraderingen, med resultat som mestadels ligger på samma nivå som den gamla Omen 16. De bärbara RTX 3070 Ti-datorer som vi hittills har testat har i genomsnitt varit något snabbare.

Spelprestanda

Situationen är liknande när det gäller spelprestanda, där den nya Omen 16 knappt skiljer sig från sin föregångare. I grund och botten är GeForce RTX 3070 Ti tillräckligt snabb för att köra alla moderna spel smidigt i den ursprungliga upplösningen 2 560x1 440 med hög till maximal detaljnivå. När det gäller mycket krävande titlar som t.ex Dying Light 2 och/eller - om de stöds - aktiverad ray tracing kan den bärbara datorn få det svårt.

Omen 16 är inte extremt högljudd i balanserat läge, men fläktarna börjar verkligen jobba i effektläge. Även utan belastning är 16-tummaren lätt till något hörbar (30 till 33 dB). 3D-tillämpningar driver snabbt bakgrundsbruset in i mycket akut till irriterande högljudda regioner. 49 till 57 dB(A) är inte bara högre än föregångaren, utan också högre än den (delvis snabbare) konkurrensen. Detta väcker misstankar om att HP antingen fokuserade på temperaturer eller inte nödvändigtvis utformade det bästa kylsystemet i allmänhet.

Omen 16-b1090ng: Testutrustning tillhandahållen av HP Germany

Även om det knappast finns några förbättringar i GPU-prestanda jämfört med föregångaren visar den nya Omen 16 återigen att den är en framgångsrik bärbar dator för kärnspelare

Förutom det eleganta och snyggt byggda höljet är de positiva aspekterna moderna anslutningsmöjligheter (Thunderbolt 4) och en solid 165 Hz-panel, på vilken alla aktuella spel kan spelas smidigt i (mycket) höga detaljer - även vid den ursprungliga upplösningen på 2 560 x 1 440 pixlar. Den snabbare SSD-enheten och den snabbare processorn visar sig också vara trevliga uppgraderingar.

Den starka prestandan kommer dock till priset av buller. I strömläge blir Omen 16 mycket högljudd, vilket kan vara en dealbreaker för många potentiella köpare (de som är villiga att acceptera lite mindre ström kan helt enkelt använda profilen Balanced).

Sammantaget är Omen 16-b1090ng ungefär på samma nivå som Omen 16-b1090ng MSI GS66 Stealth 12UGS och Aorus 17 XE4. Lenovo Legion 5 Pro 16 G7fick däremot ett något högre betyg.

Pris och tillgänglighet

Den recenserade HP Omen 16-b1090ng kan beställas för cirka 2 200 euro från vissa nätbutiker (t.ex. computer universe)).
