Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

The frequency of 255 Hz is relatively high, so most users sensitive to PWM should not notice any flickering. However, there are reports that some users are still sensitive to PWM at 500 Hz and above, so be aware.

In comparison: 51 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 9596 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz was measured.

Display Response Times

Display response times show how fast the screen is able to change from one color to the next. Slow response times can lead to afterimages and can cause moving objects to appear blurry (ghosting). Gamers of fast-paced 3D titles should pay special attention to fast response times.

Med sin Mi 9 SE har Xiaomi lyckats bra med att skapa en tilltalande mittenskiktstelefon med en kompakt design. SE tar med sig en del av flaggskeppsfunktionerna från sitt storasyskon samtidigt som den håller kostnaden nere. Xiaomi har utrustat enheten med en kontrastrik OLED-skärm, fantastiska kameror och en skaplig monohögtalare - allt i ett hölje som ser lyxigt ut.

Majoriteten av vår kritik försvinner om man köper den globala versionen av Mi 9 SE. Men batteriets kapacitet och LTE-täckningen är båda förvånansvärt låga oavsett vilken modell du köper. Vidare känns bristen på en microSD-kortplats, IP-certifiering, notifierings-LED och hörlursanslutning som ett missat tillfälle att skapa en ännu bättre mittenskiktstelefon än vad Mi 9 SE redan är. 

Om du letar efter en allt-i-allo som inte tömmer plånboken så kan Xiaomi Mi 9 SE vara enheten för dig.

Mi 9 SE kostar vid skrivande stund straxt över 3.000 kronor, vilket gör den riktigt prisvärd. Men vi har redan sett att den säljs nästan 10% billigare online, vilket gör den till ännu mer av ett fynd. Mi 9 SE är dock en fantastisk mittenskikts-telefon oavsett vilket.
