Recension av Lenovo Legion 7 16IAX7: Snabb 16-tums gamer med 165 Hz-skärm

Intel HX-CPU och GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. Lenovo Legion 7 16 erbjuder allt som spelare vill ha. Förutom den snabbaste mobila processorn från Intel finns även GeForce RTX 3080 Ti och en snabb 165 Hz-skärm. Kylsystemet lyckas också hålla hårdvaran sval, men för 4 499 euro (~4 500 US-dollar) är den avancerade spelaren på intet sätt ett fynd.

Legion 7 16 är Lenovos spelflaggskepp i 16-tumsformat och erbjuder allt som för närvarande finns tillgängligt på marknaden: en Intel HX CPU, enGeForce RTX 3080 Ti, en WQHD-panel med 165 Hz och uppdaterade PCIe 4.0 SSD-diskar. Detta har dock också ett pris, eftersom Lenovo tar ut den rejäla summan av 4 500 euro (~4 500 US-dollar) för den avancerade spelaren. I den här recensionen jämför vi den nya Legion 7 16 med spelkonkurrensen, som främst består av 17-tums modeller, och även med Legion 7 16 med AMD-hårdvara.

Case - Legion 7 med aluminiumchassi

Med sitt silvergrå aluminiumchassi är Legion 7 16 visuellt ganska diskret för en så kraftfull bärbar dator för spel. Vi gillar verkligen den återhållsamma designen och stabiliteten är utmärkt. Varken basenheten eller displaylocket kan bucklas eller vridas, och knarrande ljud saknas helt och hållet. Skärmens kanter är mycket tunna och enheten ser mycket modern ut.

Även om skärmens gångjärn är något förskjutet på framsidan tillåter det en maximal öppningsvinkel på 180 grader. Skärmen kan också lätt öppnas med en hand och vinglighet är inget problem. Selektiva trycktillämpningar av tryck resulterade inte i några bildförvrängningar.

Det diskreta utseendet blir snabbt ett minne blott när den omfattande lådbelysningen tänds. Förutom en omgivande ljusbalk i basenhetens främre område kommer ljuseffekter också ut ur alla fläktgaller och Legion -logotypen på locket är också upplyst. Totalt finns sju olika profiler tillgängliga, men du kan också justera allting manuellt.

Tillsammans med Asus två 16-tumsmodeller är Legion 7 16 en av de mest kompakta modellerna i jämförelsefältet. Med sina 2,6 kg är den inte någon lättviktare i sig, men de flesta konkurrenter är lite tyngre även här. Du får dock inte glömma den skrymmande 300-watts nätadaptern, som är tyngre än vissa ultrabooks med mer än ett kilo.

Legion har många moderna gränssnitt, varav de flesta finns på baksidan. På basenhetens ovansida finns hjälpsamma etiketter som gör det mycket enklare att koppla in kablar. Vi hade gärna sett en vanlig USB-A-port på sidorna (t.ex. för USB-minnen) samt en kortläsare, som det faktiskt finns gott om plats för.

Kommunikation

Förutom den snabba Ethernet-porten på 2,5 Gbit/s har Legion 7 16 också en mycket modern WLAN-modul (Wi-Fi 6E) med stöd för moderna 6 GHz-nätverk och Bluetooth 5.2. I vårt standardiserade WLAN-test med vår referensrouter från Asus uppnår Killer AX1675i mycket höga och stabila överföringshastigheter, och vi kunde ansluta till 6 GHz-nätverket utan problem.

Webbkamera

Lenovo har installerat en 1080p-kamera i den övre bildskärmsramen, som kan avaktiveras med en strömbrytare på höger sida av höljet. Bildkvaliteten är något bättre än 720p-modulerna. På det hela taget tjänar webbkameran sitt syfte. Det finns ingen IR-sensor för ansiktsigenkänning via Windows Hello.

Underhåll

Grundplattan är fäst med sex Phillips-skruvar och sitter fortfarande väldigt hårt fast efter att skruvarna lossats, varför det är bäst att använda en sugkopp för att lossa grundplattan. På insidan kan fläktarna rengöras och du har tillgång till de två RAM-platserna, WLAN-modulen och de två M.2-2280 SSD-platserna. För detta måste dock ytterligare luckor tas bort, varav några också är skruvade.

Inmatningsenheter - Lenovo installerar belysning av en enda tangent

Tangentbordet med det dedikerade numeriska tangentbordet har en hyfsad kvalitet med tillräcklig tangentrörelse, men det finns fortfarande utrymme för förbättringar. Tangenterna verkar ibland lite skrangliga, medan mellanslagstangenten och Enter-tangenten är relativt högljudda. Andra bärbara datorer för spel är något bättre här. Det finns ingen kritik för tangentbordsbelysningen, som kan konfigureras individuellt för varje tangent och du kan låta din kreativitet få fritt spelrum här.

Den stora ClickPad (12 x 7,5 cm) är något förskjuten åt vänster i basenheten och den normala pekarstyrningen fungerar perfekt. Ljudet är bara ganska högt när man klickar på det nedre området. De flesta användare kommer ändå att använda en extern mus för spelande.

Lenovo installerar en 16-tums IPS-skärm med en upplösning på 2560x1600 och en matt yta, vilket ger en mycket bra subjektiv bildkvalitet. Rörelser är mycket smidiga tack vare den höga uppdateringsfrekvensen, allt innehåll visas mycket skarpt och även ljusa ytor ser inte alls korniga ut. Panelen erbjuder också mycket snabba svarstider och vi upptäckte inget PWM-flimmer. HDR-innehåll och G-Sync stöds också.

Lenovo anger en ljusstyrka på 500 cd/m², vilket till och med överträffas av vårt granskningsprov med ett genomsnitt på 523 cd/m². Svartvärdet på 0,44 är dock jämförelsevis högt, varför kontrastförhållandet "bara" är ~1 200:1. Naturligtvis har andra skärmtekniker som OLED eller mini-LED en fördel här. Du kan också se små halos på en mörk bakgrund vid full ljusstyrka, men det borde inte vara något problem i praktiken.

Vid leverans visar vår analys med den professionella CalMAN-programvaran (X-Rite i1 Pro 2) att gråskalan är blå och att färgtemperaturen är något för kall, men färgerna är mycket exakta. Med vår egen kalibrering (profilen finns tillgänglig för gratis nedladdning ovan) kunde vi få kontroll över det blåa kastet och förbättra färgprecisionen avsevärt.

Även om panelen endast täcker det lilla sRGB-färgutrymmet är den här bärbara datorn främst avsedd för spel och därför är skärmen mycket väl lämpad för detta ändamål.

Display response times show how fast the screen is able to change from one color to the next. Slow response times can lead to afterimages and can cause moving objects to appear blurry (ghosting). Gamers of fast-paced 3D titles should pay special attention to fast response times.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

In comparison: 52 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 19810 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 3846000) Hz was measured.

Provningsförhållanden

Lenovo erbjuder tre olika prestandaprofiler med den förinstallerade Vantage-mjukvaran, som kan växlas antingen via programvaran eller tangentkombinationen Fn+Q. Det aktiverade läget indikeras mycket bekvämt genom att strömknappen lyser upp (vit = balanserad, blå = tyst, röd = prestanda). Vi har listat respektive TDP/TGP-inställningar i följande tabell.

Processor - Core i9-12900HX

Core i9-12900HX är för närvarande Intels snabbaste mobilprocessor, baserad på skrivbordschipen i Alder Lake S-klassen. Det finns 8 prestandakärnor, inklusive hyperthreading och 8 effektivitetskärnor, så att chippet kan bearbeta totalt 24 trådar samtidigt. Förbrukningen toppar på upp till 165 watt och planar sedan snabbt ut på 136 watt, vilket möjliggör utmärkta resultat i benchmarks. Core i9 är inte särskilt effektiv, men fördelen jämfört med AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX i Legion 7 16 med samma konstruktion är i genomsnitt 39 procent i alla våra CPU-tester. Legion har två moderna PCIe 4.0-platser för M.2-2280 SSD-diskar, som också är utrustade med en kylfläns. I vår granskningskonfiguration är en av platserna ledig, den andra är utrustad med en snabb Micron 3400-SSD som erbjuder en lagringskapacitet på 1 TB (886 GB är tillgängliga efter första uppstarten). Överföringshastigheten är utmärkt med över 6 GB/s och det finns endast en minimal nedgång i prestanda vid långvarig belastning. Inga temperaturproblem har registrerats.
