The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is Xiaomi’s boldest flagship yet, featuring a striking design with a functional rear OLED display, a gorgeous 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED panel, and the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip for top-tier performance. Its massive 7,500mAh battery delivers class-leading endurance, easily outlasting most rivals. However, despite the Leica branding, the camera system still feels unrefined — with inconsistent color tuning, a weak ultrawide lens, and underwhelming video output. HyperOS 3.0 also continues to lag behind competitors in polish and consistency. Overall, the 17 Pro Max is innovative and powerful but still lacks the finesse needed to truly challenge Samsung, Apple, or even Vivo at the very top.

The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is a well-rounded flagship phone without many weak points, if at all. It has the latest and greatest chipset, a high-end display, an excellent build, a huge battery, snappy charging, amazing speakers and dependable camera hardware. The secondary display is a nice touch, as it makes the Pro Max stand out, but, most importantly, it makes the selfie-taking experience with the rear cameras so much more flexible. Despite being so well-rounded, however, it's hard to recommend the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max if you are looking for an amazing camera phone. The cameras here seem good to the average Joe, but there are objectively better alternatives with more capable hardware right now, and the telephoto camera is a miss. Sadly, the camera department is the only one that keeps the 17 Pro Max from getting an excellent score.

It features a sturdy aluminum frame and a smooth glass front protected by Xiaomi’s Dragon Crystal Glass 3. The phone is IP68-certified, meaning it can survive up to 6 meters underwater for 30 minutes, adding excellent durability. At 219 grams and just 8mm thick, it feels solid yet surprisingly comfortable in hand. The display is one of its biggest highlights — a 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED panel offering 68 billion colors, 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and an astonishing 3500 nits of peak brightness. The 1200 × 2608-pixel resolution with 416 ppi density makes every detail look vivid and lifelike.

Xiaomi is feeling bold and confident with this year's Xiaomi 17 lineup, even if they are only launching the devices in China for now. We rarely see large smartphone makers experiment with features like secondary displays on the back. The last Xiaomi phone with a similar feature was the Xiaomi 11 Ultra, released in 2021. Xiaomi might be onto something this time around, as the rear screen is already confirmed to stay for at least another generation. The rear screen isn't the only highlight feature of the 17 Pro Max too. It is seemingly packed to the bream with some great hardware - a huge and bright LTPO OLED panel on the front, the most powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, a huge 7,500 mAh battery with fast charging and a capable camera setup. What's not to like?
