För den som är intresserad av en attraktiv, relativt robust och i huvudsak välavrundad underhållningslaptop som inte tömmer plånboken är IdeaPad 530S för 7.000 kronor absolut värd en titt. Tack vare en kapabel fyrkärnig i5-8250U CPU, rikligt med RAM och snabb NVMe-lagring så klarar vårt recensionsexemplar av att visa upp riktigt bra genomsnittlig prestanda i våra tester. Även om testerna hamnade en aning efter likvärdigt utrustade konkurrenter så var marginalerna små och de låga nivåerna av fläktljud och temperaturutveckling kommer troligen kompensera för denna brist hos de flesta användare.

Konstruktionskvaliteten är också på toppnivå, med CNC-tillverkade aluminiumytor och supersmal infattning som för tankarna till HP Spectre och Dell XPS — till en bråkdel av kostnaden. Inmatningsenheterna är totalt sett också ganska bra, även om ledarna i den här kategorin ligger steget före IdeaPad på den punkten.

Det som IdeaPad 530S åstadkommer är ganska värdefullt. Om inte annat så representerar den ett fullt lämpligt steg nedåt från dagens ultra-lyxiga maskiner till en aningen blygsammare placering där perfektion försiktigt och subtilt byts ut mot värde.

Men ridån kan inte hållas nedfälld hur länge som helst och i slutändan så börjar fasaden av en maskin för mer än 10.000 kronor blekna en aning. Även om den är konstruerad av metall så är ytorna märkbart tunnare än de som pryder XPS 15, till exempel, och detta märks tydligast på att basenhet böjer sig en del. Inmatningsenheterna är bra, men inte fantastiska. Grafikprestandan är förstås inte det viktigaste hos dagens recensionsenhet, men ljudet saknar också den balans och tyngd som XPS 15 har. Skärmen (även om den totalt sett är bra) kan inte heller stå sig. Det finns inget alternativ för dual-lagring eller dualkanals-RAM och kortläsaren är bland de långsammaste vi någonsin sett. Inget av dessa tillkortakommanden är livshotande och faktum är att de flesta kan anses vara ganska små, särskilt med tanke på priset. Men tillsammans så förkroppsligar de prisbesparingen och tjänar som en genomgående påminnelse om att en del nedskärningar behövde göras någonstans. Kom ihåg det (och ha inte för höga förväntningar) så är det som IdeaPad 530S åstadkommer ganska värdefullt.
