It retains most of what has made Motorola's clamshell foldables so appealing in recent years - a compact and stylish design, one of the best cover screen implementations in the business, clean Android software with plenty of thoughtful extras, and surprisingly strong battery endurance.

The Motorola Razr (2026) certainly isn't a perfect phone, but it's still one of the only foldables at this price point. If you're interested in a flip-style foldable phone, the fact is that unless you're willing to spend more, you're kind of stuck with the Razr. Maybe saying you're stuck with it isn't quite the best phrasing. But the fact is that if you choose this phone, you will need to compromise on plenty of things that other phones do a whole lot better at the price. If you do like the idea of a flip phone, really only use your phone for things like scrolling social media and browsing the web, and don't care much about getting the best camera, then you'll like what's on offer by the Motorola Razr (2026).

The Motorola Razr 2026 remains the value king in the flip phone market, despite the jump in price from $700 to $800 this year. It's widely available on carriers and in my time with it, I did not experience any major issues. It was a fine flip phone. If you are a more demanding user, though, the average processor remains a sore point that you will certainly notice.

The new Motorola Razr 70 announced and released April 2026 is a modern foldable flip phone that is surprisingly light at just 188 grams. When unfolded, you get a big, beautiful 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED screen with super-smooth 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, and a peak brightness of 3000 nits perfect for sunny days. Fold it shut, and you will find a handy 3.6-inch external AMOLED display (90Hz, 1700 nits) for quick replies, selfies, or checking notifications without opening the phone. The build is tough too an aluminum frame, titanium hinge, Gorilla Glass on the front cover, and an IP48 water-resistance rating (safe in 1.5m of water for 30 minutes). It even meets MIL-STD-810H military durability standards. The Motorola Razr 70 runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 7450X chip (built on a power-efficient 4nm process) with 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of storage. It runs Android 16 out of the box. The camera setup is simple but capable a dual 50MP main system (one wide with OIS for steady shots, one ultrawide for landscapes or group photos) and a 32MP selfie camera on the inside. You can record 4K video from both the main and selfie cameras. Battery life comes from a 4800mAh silicon carbon battery that is a newer, denser type of battery supporting 30W wired and 15W wireless charging. The phone also includes stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and 5G connectivity.

All told, the Razr 2026 is sitting pretty in this year's lineup. It's the only model I'd feel comfortable recommending at full price — the Razr Plus 2026 and Razr Ultra 2026 are overpriced and share too much in common with their predecessor. The last-gen Razr 2025 isn't much of a threat here because it's only $200 cheaper and only has two Android OS upgrades remaining. Once again, this is the phone to buy if you want a foldable without spending a fortune.

The Motorola Razr 2026 remains a good pick for the foldable-curious, and though it's gotten pricier, so have many other phones. The strides made in previous years -- upgrading both rear cameras to 50-megapixel shooters, expanding its cover screen to 3.6 inches -- make it premium enough to warrant serious consideration over its even more expensive siblings (which also got price bumps). Where the foldable makes compromises, namely in a chip that's slower than other phones at its price range, it's not hindering enough to dissuade favor -- though if you plan to keep your phone longer than four or five years, the Galaxy Z line of foldables is a better investment. Where the foldable excels in design, display and battery, it justifies recommendation as the most affordable clamshell foldable available on the market.

Motorola hasn’t quite pulled a Pixel 10a with the Razr 70 – releasing the exact same phone twice in succession – but it’s not a million miles off. In terms of its design, performance, and overall camera set-up, it’s much like the Razr 60 before it. That’s both good and bad. On the positive side of things, the Razr is the most accessibly-priced foldable on the market, and a classy operator with a tactile design and good-quality screens. On the other hand, it performs and takes photos like a mid-ranger (albeit a non-foldable one). It’s cheap, yes, but much like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, it doesn’t feel like brilliant value for money. For better options, take a look at our selection of the best foldable phones.

With the price of the new Razr 70 Ultra increasing to £1,199 (the Razr 60 Ultra was available from £999), you’re paying a lot for a phone with not a lot of support and not a lot of changes. But with that said, Motorola sets a high bar with the Razr 70 Ultra: it’s still pretty powerful, the battery expansion is welcomed and the new camera sensor has promise. The design is great (if a little thick), but I can’t fault the appeal of Motorola’s colours and materials. But in sticking to a familiar path, the Razr 70 Ultra hands Samsung an opportunity with the forthcoming Galaxy Z Flip 8, which could be thinner, lighter, cheaper, and offer better software support – but with a smaller battery, slower charging and without the fun colours and finishes.
