Kaby Lake Upgrade. A powerful processor, IPS display and quick SSD: these are the fundamental building blocks for a good office computer, and the Inspiron provides them all. A backlit keyboard and a good battery life build on that foundation, and the built-in touchscreen can be operated with a stylus. The whole package costs just under 800 Euros (~$850).

At the same time, it does have some glaring shortcomings such as the disappointing battery life and the stiff trackpad buttons. The RAM configuration feels a bit unbalanced too. There are variants available with 8GB of RAM but those don't come with the Optane Memory or an SSD, which means the Windows experience won't be as snappy.

While it’s pretty solid-feeling, not being actually able to do much with it on Dell’s stand obviously limits what I can tell you about how the Inspiron 15 5000 (5580) performs. I like the fact you get a good number of ports here, including an SD card reader and Ethernet and get the impression that this will appeal to those who want a dependable machine that’s flexible in a variety of situations.

Dell:
Det här är mindre avancerade grafikkort för användare som ändå vill kunna spela spel. Nya spel bör vara spelbara, men ofta bara med låga detaljinställningar och låg upplösning. Eftersom moderna grafikkort i den här klassen har låg strömförbrukning kan även batteritiden vara bra.
Intel HD Graphics 620:
Integrerad GPU (GT2) som finns på vissa Kaby-Lake CPU-modeller (ULV 15 W-serien).
AMD Radeon R7 M445:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Mobile:
Grafikkort från mittenskiktet baserat på Nvidias Pascal-arkitektur och efterföljare till GeForce 960M. Tillverkas i en 14nm-process hos Samsung och dom tekniska specifikationerna är väldigt lika desktop-versionen.
Intel UHD Graphics 620:
Integrerad GPU (GT2, 24 EU:s) som återfinns i en del Kaby-Lake-Refresh CPU-modeller (15 W ULV-serier). Tekniskt identisk med den tidigare generationens Kaby-Lake GPU kallad HD Graphics 620
AMD Radeon 530:
Dedikerat grafikkort på instegsnivå med 320 eller 384 shaders (beroende på det använda chippet) och DDR3- eller GDDR5-grafikminne (både med en 64 Bits buss). Båda chippen har använts ett par år, redan från Radeon 8590M (28nm GCN).

Kaby Lake Refresh-baserad fyrkärnig lågenergi-processor. De fyra kärnorna har en klockfrekvens på mellan 1.6 och 3.4 GHz (Turbo Boost) och stödjer HyperThreading. Den inbyggda GPU:n har en klockfrekvens på mellan 300 och 1.100 MHz. Denna SoC tillverkas i en 14 nm+ FinFET-process.
