Den extravaganta spegeldesignen gör Sonys nya flaggskepp Xperia Z5 Premium till ett riktigt blickfång vid första ögonkastet – bokstavligen. En nackdel med den här ovanliga designen är ständiga närvarande fingeravtryck på höljet, som visserligen är ganska lätta att ta bort.

Mobilen spelar i den övre ligan vad gäller hårdvaran. Snapdragon 810-kretsen levererar hög prestanda och stryps bara under långvarig belastning. Dessutom kommunicerar luren med alla moderna radiostandarder och den konventionella mikro-USB-porten är mångsidig tack vare MHL 3.0 och USB OTG-stöd. Andra plus är att fingeravtrycksläsaren är pålitlig, kameran har egna knappar och att högtalarna låter bra. Dessutom var alla samtal under testet brusfria.

Allt är inte guld och gröna skogar med huvudkameran. Den hittar snabbt fokus, bilderna har naturliga färger och de omfattande videofunktionerna är tilltalande; däremot är de suddiga bildkanterna och prestandan i svagt ljus inte fullt så bra.

Kontrasten, betraktningsvinklarna och bildskärpan på skärmen går inte att klaga på, men färgåtergivningen är inte övertygande. Det kan också ifrågasättas om en 5,5-tums UHD-panel verkligen är vettigt i en smartphone som väldigt sällan kommer att ha nytta av upplösningen. Det krävs skarp syn för att uppfatta marginella skillnader jämfört med en mer konventionell QHD-panel. Och trots att batteriet är stort lider batterilivslängden av den pixeltäta panelen – Z5 Premium har mycket kortare batteritid än sina konkurrenter.

Även om man är villig att betala ca 1500 kr extra för en 0,3 tum större skärm, känslan av att titta på en 4K-skärm och glänsande design får man inte mycket högre ”premiumkänsla”, men åtminstone en större Xperia Z5.
