Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.
Screen flickering / PWM detected 255.1 Hz ≤ 99 % brightness setting

The display backlight flickers at 255.1 Hz (Likely utilizing PWM) Flickering detected at a brightness setting of 99 % and below. There should be no flickering or PWM above this brightness setting.

The frequency of 255.1 Hz is relatively high, so most users sensitive to PWM should not notice any flickering. However, there are reports that some users are still sensitive to PWM at 500 Hz and above, so be aware.

In comparison: 51 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 17520 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 2500000) Hz was measured.

Display Response Times

Display response times show how fast the screen is able to change from one color to the next. Slow response times can lead to afterimages and can cause moving objects to appear blurry (ghosting). Gamers of fast-paced 3D titles should pay special attention to fast response times.

Med Pixel 4a har Google lyckats skapa en ändamålsenlig smartphone som har många styrkor och bara några mindre svagheter. Den har både bra systemprestanda och batteritid för en mittenskiktstelefon och 128 GB intern lagring innebär att det inte gör så mycket att den saknar en microSD-kortplats. Dessutom presterar kameran nästan lika bra som på de "stora" Pixel 4-enheterna och är utan like i det här prisskiktet. Skärmen, som "bara" är 5.8 tum stor, gör dessutom detta till en av de mer kompakta telefonerna som finns att få tag på.

Pixel 4a är en billig smartphone från Google som i synnerhet kommer tilltala fans av små telefoner.

Pixel 4a får dessutom extrapoäng för sin riktigt ljusstarka skärm. Tack vare en OLED-panel har den också levande färger och förstklassig kontrast. Har man däremot känsliga ögon går det att notera att skärmen flimrar i ett brett frekvensband. Subjektivt sett har den här artikelns författare dock använt smartphones som anstränger ögonen mer än Pixel 4a trots att de flimrat i betydlig högre frekvenser. I slutändan får du helt enkelt testa och se.
