The Realme 16 5G looks like a solid option at first, but the longer you use it, the more its weaknesses start to show. In a price range where balance matters the most, this phone feels uneven. Undoubtedly, the standout feature of this phone is its battery. With a capacity of 7000mAh, it performs well and is capable of lasting over a full day with extensive usage. Design-wise too, the phone can get a pass for its looks and nimble feel. However, aside from this, I was really expecting the performance to be better than what we actually got. The Dimensity 6400 isn’t the fastest in this segment with app speeds, multitasking, and gaming. It feels slow at times and simply does not match what competitors are offering. The camera too, while it does a decent job in good light, delivers average results when the light gets dim.

The Realme 16 5G is a phone that knows what it is good at, and it does those things well. The display is bright and vibrant, the battery easily gets you through the day, and the slim build makes it one of the more comfortable phones to carry. The selfie camera is also a pleasant surprise at this price. Where it falls short is in going beyond the basics. The missing OIS and ultrawide lens limit the camera’s reach, and the processor is slightly underpowered for the segment and feels modest compared to what rivals offer. If the basics are all you need, the Realme 16 5G makes a good case. If you want more, there are better options worth considering.

Starting at Rs 31,999 for the 8 GB+128 GB variant, the Realme 16 5G is a phone that nails the fundamentals. The battery life is pretty excellent, the display is bright and vibrant, and the selfie camera delivers some beautiful results. The slim build, comfortable form factor, and good IP ratings round off a well-put-together package for everyday use. But for users who want an experience beyond the bare basics, there is stuff left to be desired. The camera system lacks OIS and an ultrawide, which limits how versatile the setup really is. Performance is smooth enough for daily tasks, but it does show its limits when pushed harder. And 60W charging, while adequate, feels like a missed opportunity when rivals at a similar price are offering faster charging support. Taken together, these gaps are hard to ignore at the Realme 16 5G’s new asking price. The Nothing Phone 4a (review), for instance, brings a more powerful Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor and a far more flexible camera setup with ultrawide and telephoto lenses. Likewise, the Redmi Note 15 Pro (review) pairs a better Dimensity 7400 Ultra chipset with a higher-resolution main camera and an ultrawide, making it feel like a more rounded option overall. But, if long battery life, a great display, form factor, and great selfies are your priorities, the Realme 16 5G still makes a reasonable case for itself.

In our initial usage, the phone easily lasted through a full day with heavy use, including camera, social media, and streaming. The 60W fast charging also seems reliable, helping top up the battery quickly. Performance in day-to-day tasks feels smooth so far, with no major issues in regular usage. The software experience is also fluid, though we will test long-term performance in detail. Overall, the Realme 16 5G makes a strong first impression with its battery, camera features, and design.
