HP ZBook Firefly 14 G9 laptop i en recension: Intel Alder Lake-U saktar ner denna mobila arbetsstation

Nvidia T550 i 14 tum. HP:s mobila arbetsstation ZBook Firefly 14 G9 vill erbjuda mycket prestanda i ett kompakt paket. Resultatet är dock ganska nedslående, särskilt när det gäller CPU-prestanda eftersom Intels Alder Lake-chip stryps kraftigt.

Vi har nyligen granskat den större ZBook Firefly 16 G9 och nu tar vi en titt på HP:s mobila arbetsstation med en 14-tumsskärm. I likhet med sin större kusin är ZBook Firefly 14 G9 också utrustad med en aktuell Intel Alder Lake-processor tillsammans med en dedikerad Nvidia T550 professionell GPU och riktar sig därmed till den professionella sektorn på instegsnivå.

Vår konfiguration med beteckningen 6B8A2EA använder sig av följandeCore i7-1265U, Nvidia T550, 32 GB RAM, en 1 TB SSD och en matt Full HD-panel i 16:10-format. Den här konfigurationen säljs för närvarande för cirka 2 100 euro (~2 075 US-dollar).

Väska och utrustning

HP ZBook Firefly G9 använder samma chassi som företagets vanliga affärsmodeller, t.ex. EliteBook 840 G9 eller HP ZBook Firefly G9 845 G9, men silverfärgen verkar något mörkare i den här mobila arbetsstationen. Aluminiumhöljet lämnar ett högkvalitativt intryck och är dessutom mycket stabilt. Vi stötte inte på några problem som att skärmkanten lossnade (se den recension av EliteBook 845 G9). Tack vare 16:10-skärmen och de smala skärmkanterna ser den här kompakta 14-tummaren ganska modern ut, men sticker inte ut särskilt i en professionell miljö med sin ganska återhållsamma design. Den maximala öppningsvinkeln är cirka 170 grader och gångjärnen är väljusterade. Det är möjligt att öppna locket med en hand utan problem samtidigt som man nästan helt undviker att det skaver samtidigt.

ZBook erbjuder alla viktiga portar, inklusive två USB-C-portar med Thunderbolt 4-stöd, som också möjliggör strömförsörjning eller anslutning till en dockningsstation. Förutom en fullfjädrad HDMI-utgång finns det också en SmartCard-läsare och en plats för ett nano-SIM-kort i WWAN-modeller (som tillval med 5G). WWAN-modulen kan dock inte uppgraderas. HP använder den moderna WLAN-modulen AX211 från Intel, som stöder standarden Wi-Fi 6E. Vi kunde ansluta till 6 GHz-nätverket i vår referensrouter från Asus utan problem i testet och överföringshastigheterna är mycket bra. En Ethernet-port och en kortläsare ingår inte.

Förutom en IR-kamera har HP installerat en webbkamera på 5 MP med mekanisk bländare, som endast spelar in bilder med maximalt 2 560 x 1 440 pixlar (3,7 MP). Videor kan spelas in i högst 1440p med 30 bilder per sekund. Kameran lämnar ett gott intryck och kan skilja sig från de vanliga 720p- eller 1080p-modulerna när det gäller bildskärpa samt färgtrogenhet.

Underhåll

Det nedre locket sitter fast med vanliga Philips-skruvar (de lossnar bara och skruvas inte loss helt) och kan lätt tas bort. På insidan får du tillgång till fläkten, det skruvade batteriet, M.2-2280-platsen samt de två SO-DIMM-platserna, som är placerade under ett extra lock. WLAN-modulen är dock fastlödd på moderkortet.

Inmatningsenheter: Zbook med ett mycket bra tangentbord

Det bakgrundsbelysta tangentbordet ger en fast tryckpunkt och en mycket bekväm skrivupplevelse överlag, vilket gör ZBook lämplig för att skriva mycket långa texter. Strömbrytaren är integrerad i tangentbordets övre högra hörn och det finns en risk för att man råkar slå på tangenten av misstag. Dessutom är piltangenterna mycket små. Fingeravtrycksläsaren är placerad under tangentbordet på höger sida.

Den stora klickplattan (12 x 8 cm) erbjuder goda glidegenskaper och fungerar mycket bra vid daglig användning. Den nedre delen av plattan kan tryckas ner, vilket bekräftas med ett behagligt fylligt och tyst klickljud - precis som det ska vara.

Visa: ZBook med matt IPS-panel

HP erbjuder totalt fyra olika 16:10-paneler för ZBook Firefly 14 G9, som alla är baserade på IPS-teknik och har en matt yta. Standardmodellen med en ljusstyrka på 250 cd/m² och pekskärm bör dock undvikas om möjligt. SureView-panelen med inbyggt sekretessfilter har också vissa nackdelar, vilket vi hade konstaterat i vår granskning av EliteBook 845 G9. Panelen på 400 nits med en upplösning på 1920 x 1200 pixlar (100 % sRGB) är installerad i vår testenhet, men en DreamColor-panel med P3-färgrymdstäckning och en upplösning på 2660 x 1600 pixlar samt 120 Hz finns som tillval.

Subjektivt sett erbjuder panelen utmärkt bildkvalitet eftersom även ljusa ytor inte ser korniga ut trots den matta beläggningen. Den genomsnittliga ljusstyrkan är mer än 400 cd/m² och kontrastförhållandet är högt. Vi märkte inget PWM-flimmer och betraktningsvinkelstabiliteten är mycket god. Endast vid maximal ljusstyrka märker vi lätta halos vid de nedre kanterna på mörka bakgrunder.

Vår analys med den professionella CalMAN-mjukvaran visar en liten färgskugga mot blått/rött i leveranstillståndet, och många färger ligger också något över DeltaE 2000-avvikelsen på 3 jämfört med sRGB-referensfärgrymden. Så länge du inte redigerar bilder är detta fullt tillräckligt för daglig användning

Vår egen kalibrering visar dock hur mycket potential panelen har. Vi kunde helt eliminera färgsättningen och den genomsnittliga avvikelsen för färgerna faller till bara 0,8 (max 1,8), vilket är en utmärkt prestanda.

Display response times show how fast the screen is able to change from one color to the next. Slow response times can lead to afterimages and can cause moving objects to appear blurry (ghosting). Gamers of fast-paced 3D titles should pay special attention to fast response times.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

In comparison: 53 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 17924 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 3846000) Hz was measured.

Processor: Intel Core i7-1265U

Core i7-1265U är ett aktuellt Alder Lake-chip (12:e generationen) med två snabba prestandakärnor och åtta effektivitetskärnor. Prestandapotentialen är teoretiskt sett också mycket hög, men chippet i ZBook Firefly 14 G9 bromsas av den mycket låga effektgränsen på 12 W, som slår igenom efter några sekunder. Detta räcker för enkla uppgifter, men den totala prestandan är lite lägre än till och med en Tiger Lake Core i7-1165G7 i föregångarmodellen om alla CPU-benchmarks tas samman.

Vi upplevde också ett liknande problem i den större Firefly 16 G9 och är därför i kontakt med tillverkaren. Prestandan är definitivt en besvikelse för en mobil arbetsstation. Som jämförelse kan nämnas att den normala businessvarianten EliteBook 845 G9 med AMD Ryzen 9 Pro 6950HS erbjuder cirka tre gånger så mycket prestanda för flera kärnor.

Liksom i fallet med de större Firefly 16 G9är den dedikerade Nvidia T550med en TGP på endast 20 W, vilket är det lägsta värde som Nvidia anger (20-60 W). Eftersom det är en professionell GPU får du optimerade drivrutiner inklusive certifieringar för professionella applikationer. Därför är GPU:n fortfarande vettig trots klassificeringen på instegsnivå.

När det gäller ren prestanda är den nya T550 en liten besvikelse och ligger bara marginellt före T500 GPU i den gamla ZBook Firefly 14 G8. Prestandan förblir stabil under permanent belastning och i batteriläge

Vid daglig användning märks processorns låga prestanda positivt i fläktbeteendet eftersom ZBook Firefly 14 G9 är extremt tyst så länge du inte använder den dedikerade GPU:n. Även vid full CPU-belastning surrar fläkten med mindre än 30 dB(A) och är därmed knappt hörbar i normala miljöer

När T550 också är aktiv når fläkten snabbt upp till ~40 dB(A). Vi kunde inte upptäcka några andra elektroniska ljud.

ZBook Firefly 14 G9 har inga temperaturproblem vid normal användning och ytorna är behagligt svala. Vid full belastning (särskilt med en aktiv GPU) blir temperaturerna inte kritiska, men vissa ställen på undersidan överstiger 47 °C trots den jämförelsevis låga prestandan.

Den når 68 W under en mycket kort tid i stresstestet, men förbrukningen stabiliserar sig omedelbart på ~45 W och stannar på den nivån. Det medföljande nätaggregatet på 65 W är därför tillräckligt.

Med 51 Whr-batteriet har ZBook Firefly 14 G9 en hygglig drifttid på nästan 9 timmar i vårt WLAN-test vid 150 cd/m² (motsvarar 63 % av den maximala ljusstyrkan) och ~7,5 timmar vid full ljusstyrka på skärmen. Konkurrenterna erbjuder dock mer uthållighet med undantag för Surface Studio - även den gamla ZBook Firefly 14 G8 höll mycket längre.

En full laddning tar 140 minuter när enheten är på, med 80 % laddning tillgänglig efter 72 minuter. Det finns ingen funktion för snabbladdning.

Vår slutsats om ZBook Firefly 14 G9 motsvarar i stort sett den om den större Firefly 16 G9eftersom det är en bra bärbar dator på många områden. Aspekter som höljet, skärmen, utrustningen och inmatningsenheterna är ganska övertygande, men prestandan står i fokus för en mobil arbetsstation

Särskilt processorn uppfyller inte detta krav, och den nya Firefly 14 G9 är dessutom långsammare än sin föregångare med en Tiger Lake -processor. Den dedikerade Nvidia T550grafikkortet är vettigt för professionella tillämpningar, men det är också den långsammaste versionen med en TGP på bara 20 W

HP ZBook Firefly 14 G9 kan övertyga på många områden, men prestandan är helt enkelt för låg för en mobil arbetsstation

Om du behöver mer processorkraft bör du titta på den normala businessvarianten HP EliteBook 845 G9 som är utrustad med en 35 W-processor från AMD samtidigt som den undviker SureView-panelen.

Obs: Vi är för närvarande i kontakt med HP angående den låga CPU-prestandan och kommer att uppdatera artikeln i enlighet med detta så snart vi får ny information.
