Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

Blade Pro är en unik spellaptop. På pappret är dess specifikationer inget speciellt; i7-7700HQ CPU, GTX 1060 GPU och 1080p IPS-skärm är standard på billigare system såsom Gigabyte Aero 15, Asus FX502 eller Gigabyte P55W. Spelare med stram budget kanske inte uppskattar det faktum att något som Acer Aspire 7 kan uppnå samma prestanda som Blade Pro GTX 1060 men ändå kosta flera tusenlappar mindre.

Dom största fördelarna hos Blade Pro är istället dess byggkvalitet, värmeegenskaper och unika design. Chassit är starkare än det ser ut och objektivt mer orubbligt än konkurrerande ultratunna såsom MSI:s HS-serie, Asus Zephyrus-serien och Aorus X7-serien. EVGA SC17 och MSI GT73VR-serierna är kanske dom mest nämnvärda kandidaterna när det kommer till chassi-stabilitet, men till och med dessa är tjockare och klumpigare än Razer. Blade Pro är ett mästerligt exempel på tunnhet och stil utan att offra dom starka fysiska kvaliteterna hos större modellers design.

En del hårdvarufunktioner utöver det utmärkta chassit är också värda att ge beröm. Uppgraderbart RAM, 120 Hz uppdateringsfrekvens och en 2.5-tums enhetsplats är trevliga överraskningar med tanke på att den dyrare Blade Pro saknar dessa funktioner. De höga Turbo Boost-klockfrekvenserna går att upprätthålla och kärntemperaturen vid spelande är svalare än väntat i 60-70 graders-spannet. Till och med yttemperaturen är tydligt svalare än konkurrerande system. Detta är en tunn spellaptop utan många av dom nackdelar som traditionellt har associerats med den kategorin.

Det finns ett antal nyckelförbättringar vi skulle vilja se för att göra framtida SKU:er ännu bättre. För det första, fler skärmalternativ med snabbare 3 ms/5 ms responstider hade definitivt tilltalat hardcore-spelare mer även om det innebär att man får offra dom breda IPS-betraktningsvinklarna. Som ett resultat av detta är ghosting ett mycket mindre problem än på dom flesta MSI-modeller och på de nyare Aorus X7-modellerna. För det andra, förbättrade fläktkontroller genom Synapse hade varit ett utmärkt tillägg för användare som hade föredragit tystare fläktar på bekostnad av högre kärntemperaturer. Blade Pro GTX 1060 är redan väldigt tyst när man inte spelar, men den blir precis så högljudd som konkurrerande alternativ under belastning. Till sist, snabbare GPU-alternativ hade lagt till utomordentligt mycket mer värde till systemet. Chassit är designat för att ge plats åt ett GTX 1080 och värmehanteringen är redan utmärkt med ett GTX 1060, så man kan bara fantisera om hur den hade presterat med ett mellanting som GTX 1070 eller till och med GTX 1070 Max-Q.

Andra mindre detaljer som längre restid för tangententer, subwoofer, stadigare styrplatta och integrerat DisplayPort-alternativ hade gett systemet fler fördelar för sitt pris. Trots detta är det svårt att inte gilla vad som redan erbjuds när systemet ser så bra ut som det gör.

Blade Pro GTX 1060 är det bästa från två världar. Den är lika smäcker och attraktiv som en tunn spellaptop men med kraftigare hårdvarukvalitet och svalare temperaturer likt en kraftigare modell. Potentialen för Max-Q GPU:er och skärmar med snabbare responstider finns inte än för den här specifika SKU:n.
