Display Response Times

Display response times show how fast the screen is able to change from one color to the next. Slow response times can lead to afterimages and can cause moving objects to appear blurry (ghosting). Gamers of fast-paced 3D titles should pay special attention to fast response times.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

Våra första intryck av Acer Aspire S 13 var mycket positiva och det var en bild bekräftades genom hela testet. Vi gillade chassit, inmatningsenheterna och skärmen. Även om färgreproduktionen kunde varit bättre även utan kalibrering är den matta ytan i kombination med en hög maximal ljusstyrka stora fördelar.

Däremot uppskattade vi inte fläkten lika mycket, som surrar på en obehaglig frekvens. Vi måste avvakta en BIOS-uppdatering här, eftersom en aktiv fläkt är inte ens behövs under låg belastning. Enligt Acer arbetar man på en uppdatering för att åtgärda problemet. 

Andra fördelar med Aspire S 13 är bra prestanda och en batteritid på över 7 timmar i realistiska scenarion. Dessutom var inmatningsenheterna övertygande.

Alternativen? Asus Zenbooks, inklusive UX305CA med passiv kylning eller UX303UA, är positionerade ungefär som Acer Aspire S13. Acers Aspire R13 är ett intressant alternativ om man är ute efter en 2-i-1-maskin. Dessutom återfinns den mycket framgångsrika Dell XPS 13 (Core i5/Full HD) i samma prisklass.
