Recension av Medion Erazer Beast X30 - Tunn och kraftfull QHD-spellaptop

Maximerad. Core-i9-12900HK-processorn och GeForce RTX-3080 Ti laptop-GPU:n kör alla de senaste datorspelen smidigt på en responsiv 17,3-tumsskärm (QHD). Den bärbara datorn erbjuder också en Thunderbolt 4-plats samt plats för två PCIe-4 SSD-diskar.

Medion Erazer Beast X30 tillhör kategorin smala bärbara speldatorer i 17,3-tumsformat. Trots sin kompakta storlek innehåller den bärbara datorn kraftfull hårdvara i form av en Core i9 12900HK processor och en GeForce Bärbar dator med RTX 3080 Ti GPU. Processorn är baserad på en barebone (GM7AG8P) från Tongfang. Bland konkurrenterna finns enheter som t.ex MSI Stealth GS77 12UHS, den Uniwill Technology GM7AG8P och Razer Blade 17 (2022).

Hölje - Medion använder ett metallchassi för Erazer

Med hjälp av ett slimmat, mattsvart metallhölje som påminner om tidigare modellerhar Medion valt en diskret design med mestadels matta ytor överallt. Endast ytan på bottenskalet har en grov känsla. Ett fritt konfigurerbart LED-band (RGB) på den nedre främre kanten av höljet som vetter mot användaren ger lite färg. Batteriet är installerat i enheten (skruvat, inte limmat). Inredningen är tillgänglig när man tar bort bottenskalet.

Det vältillverkade fodralet har jämna öppningar och det finns inga utskjutande delar eller vassa kanter. En annan positiv aspekt är att basenheten inte kan vridas. Skärmen vrider sig dock lite, men detta är helt inom ramarna. Gångjärnen håller locket stadigt på plats men vinglar också lite. Den maximala öppningsvinkeln är cirka 130 grader. Det är möjligt att öppna locket med en hand.

Erazer är den lättaste enheten i vårt jämförelsefält. När det gäller storlek är den i nivå med Blade 17 och Uniwill notebook.

X30 har tre USB-A-platser (2x USB 3.2 Gen 1, 1x USB 3.2 Gen 2) och en USB-C-port (Thunderbolt 4). Den sistnämnda stöder DisplayPort via USB-C som tillsammans med HDMI 2.1-platsen ger två videoutgångar. Det finns också två ljuduttag (hörlursutgång, mikrofoningång), en Gigabit Ethernet-port och en öppning för ett kabellås.

Webbkamera

Medion erbjuder något nytt när det gäller webbkameran: X30 har en 2,1 MP-kamera (föregångare: 0,9 MP) som ger bilder med en maximal upplösning på 1920x1080. Det finns dock ett problem med färgprecisionen: färgerna avviker betydligt från målvärdena. Kameran har inte heller någon mekanisk slutare.

Underhåll

Efter att ha tagit bort alla skruvar på den bärbara datorns undersida kan bottenskalet avlägsnas ganska enkelt. En platt spatel kan behövas för att ta bort bottenskalet. Du har då tillgång till huvudminnesbankerna (båda upptagna), SSD (PCIe 4), den andra M.2-2280-platsen (PCIe 4), WLAN-modulen, fläktarna, BIOS-batteriet och den bärbara datorns batteri.

Garanti

Erazer levereras med en tvåårig garanti från Medion. En förlängning av garantin med ett till två år är också möjlig, men kostnaderna kunde inte hittas på Medions webbplats.

Inmatningsenheter - Tangentbordet har RGB-belysning

Tangentbord

De konkava tangenterna på det upplysta chiclet-tangentbordet har ett kort avstånd och en tydlig tryckpunkt. Tangentmotståndet är acceptabelt. En positiv punkt: Tangentbordet ger inte efter när du skriver. Den fyrgradig tangentbelysningen (RGB) styrs via två funktionstangenter. På det hela taget levererar Medion ett tangentbord som är lämpligt för daglig användning.

Pekplatta

Den släta ytan på multitouch-klickplattan (ca 13,2 x 7,5 cm) gör det enkelt att glida med fingrarna. Den erbjuder korta resor och en tydlig tryckpunkt. I det övre vänstra hörnet av plattan finns en lysdiod som ger information om plattans status (på/av). I detta område reagerar inte kudden på inmatning.

Skärm - Medions laptop har en responsiv IPS-panel

Ljusstyrkan (352,1 cd/m²) och kontrastförhållandet (1 178:1) på den matta 17,3-tumsskärmen (2560x1440) är helt i linje med målet. En annan positiv punkt är att den 240 Hz-panel som installerats i testenheten har korta svarstider och inte visar PWM-flimmer (de aktuella modellerna som hittills har sålts har dock endast 165 Hz-paneler).

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

Testvillkor

X30 har tre tillverkarspecifika prestandaprofiler (Office Mode, Game Mode, Turbo Mode) och användaren kan växla mellan dessa via en separat knapp (bredvid strömknappen). Batteritesterna utfördes i Office Mode och benchmarks i standardprofilen Game Mode. Vissa riktmärken kördes också under de andra profilerna. Alla resultat finns i jämförelsediagrammen.

Det förinstallerade kontrollcentret gör det möjligt att justera profilerna. Till exempel kan effektgränserna för CPU, TGP för GPU och/eller de övre temperaturgränserna ändras. Upp till fem underprofiler kan också skapas per profil för att kartlägga specifika tillämpnings- eller användningsscenarier.

Processor

Den inbyggda Core i9-12900HK processorn (Alder Lake) består av sex prestandakärnor (hyperthreading, 2,5 till 5 GHz) och åtta effektivitetskärnor (ingen hyperthreading, 1,8 till 3,8 GHz), vilket ger totalt 20 logiska CPU-kärnor. Tack vare en fri multiplikator står ingenting i vägen för överklockning av CPU:n.

Både multitrådstestet (P-kärnor: 4,1 till 4,2 GHz, E-kärnor: 3,1 till 3,2 GHz) och enkeltrådstestet (P-kärnor: 1,4 till 4,3 GHz, E-kärnor: 1,5 till 3,7 GHz) i Cinbench R15-jämförelsetestet kördes vid höga klockfrekvenser.

CPU:n ger endast en enkeltrådsprestanda som ligger under genomsnittet enligt 12900HK-standard, eftersom den inte körs med maximal klockfrekvens (P: 4,3 till 5 GHz; E: 3,8 GHz). Kanske Medion kan och bör förbättra detta med en BIOS-uppdatering. Uniwill bärbara datorsom bygger på samma barebone som X30, får 10 till 15 procent mer prestanda för enkeltrådsbehandling från Core i9 12900H CPU (motsvarande 12900HK men utan fri multiplikator) med betydligt lägre effektgränser.

Vi kontrollerade om CPU Turbo används kontinuerligt i nätdrift genom att köra multitrådstestet i Cinebench R15-benchmark i en slinga. Höga klockfrekvenser kan upprätthållas kontinuerligt. Turbo Mode medför inga förbättringar. Att öka effektgränserna (1 och 2) till 140 watt ger en minimal ökning av CPU-effekten.

GPU

Den faktiska prestandan hos en RTX-3000 GPU beror på några faktorer: Kylning, minneskonfiguration och den maximala TGP som tillverkaren av en bärbar dator väljer inom de gränser som Nvidia har definierat. Medion ger den installerade GeForce RTX 3080 Ti GPU för bärbara datorer en maximal TGP på 175 watt (150 watt + 25 watt Dynamic Boost). GPU:n kan dra nytta av snabbt GDDR6-grafikminne (16 384 MB).


 

Enligt testet Witcher 3 uttömmer GPU:n sin TGP (150 watt). Dynamic Boost, som är inställd på ett standardmaximum på 5 watt via Control Center, visar liten användning eller ingen alls. Benchmarkresultaten ligger över det RTX-3080-Ti-genomsnitt som fastställts hittills. En manuell ökning av Dynamic Boost till upp till 25 watt leder i bästa fall till små förbättringar. Razer Blade 17, utrustad med samma GPU, presterar något bättre över hela linjen.

 

Kontrollcentret och BIOS i X30 gör det möjligt att avaktivera den växlande grafiklösning (Optimus) som används här. Först då kommer GeForce GPU:n i drift, vilket ger minimala fördelar i bästa fall när det gäller grafikprestanda.

Spelprestanda

Den inbyggda hårdvaran kör alla aktuella spel smidigt i den ursprungliga skärmupplösningen (2560x1 440) och med maximala inställningar. Högre upplösningar kan också hanteras med en motsvarande bildskärm - med delvis reducerade kvalitetsinställningar. Uppdateringsfrekvensen ligger över genomsnittet för RTX 3080 Ti. Att avaktivera Optimus orsakar i vissa fall en liten ökning av bildfrekvensen.

GeForce GPU:s "Whispermode 2.0" är ansvarig för de låga uppdateringsfrekvenserna när Office Mode-profilen är aktiv. Syftet är att uppnå lägsta möjliga ljudnivå med ramfrekvensnivåer som är acceptabla för spel (minst 30 till 60 fps). GPU:n behöver inte arbeta med full effekt, producerar mindre värme och fläktarna kan sakta ner.

Whispermode kan justeras via plattformen GeForce Experience eller X30 Control Center. Aktivering/deaktivering är också möjlig via GeForce Experience.

Temperatur

Vid vardaglig användning (kontor, internet) ligger temperaturen i lådan inom det gröna området. Vid belastning (stresstest, Witcher 3 -test) blir den bärbara datorn betydligt varmare. Vid vissa mätpunkter registrerades temperaturer strax över 60 grader Celsius. CPU-temperaturerna försköts ibland till det röda området. Följaktligen sjönk CPU-klockan betydligt under testets gång.

Stresstest

Processorn arbetade med höga klockfrekvenser i början av stresstestet (Prime95 och Furmark kördes i minst en timme) och sjönk till 1 GHz (P-kärnor) och 1,1 GHz (E-kärnor) när testet fortskred. Processorkärnorna låg alltså betydligt under sina basklockfrekvenser, medan grafikprocessorn arbetade med relativt konstanta hastigheter på en hög nivå. Stresstestet representerar ett extremt scenario. Vi använder det här testet för att kontrollera om systemet fungerar stabilt under full belastning.

Både CPU och GPU kan arbeta med kontinuerligt höga klockfrekvenser, men permanent, samtidig drift vid maximal klockfrekvens är inte möjlig, vilket stresstestet visar. Här når idén om kraftfull hårdvara i ett tunt hölje sina gränser, men detta bör inte vara en anledning till oro eftersom det inte spelar någon större roll i spelandet.

Högtalare

Stereohögtalarna ger ett medelmåttigt ljud med knappt någon bas. Använd hörlurar eller externa högtalare för att få en bättre ljudupplevelse.

Effektförbrukning

X30 uppvisar inga avvikelser när det gäller strömförbrukning. Stresstestet och Witcher 3 -testet ökade strömförbrukningen till upp till 290 watt och ett genomsnitt på 223 watt. Den starkt fluktuerande strömförbrukningen under stresstestet beror främst på processorn. Det medföljande nätaggregatet är tillräckligt stort med en nominell effekt på 330 watt.

Batteritid

17,3-tummaren uppnår körtider på 5:41 timmar och 6:26 timmar i WLAN-testet (laddning av webbplatser med hjälp av ett skript) och videotestet (kortfilmen "Big Buck Bunny" (H.264-kodning, FHD) i en loop). Under båda testerna var den bärbara datorns energisparfunktioner avaktiverade och skärmens ljusstyrka inställd på cirka 150 cd/m². De trådlösa modulerna var också avstängda under videotestet.

Även om batteritiderna inte slår någon med häpnad, är de fullt acceptabla för högpresterande QHD-spel med hög prestanda. X30 släpar dock klart efter värdena för sin föregångaren - med samma batteri. Den hårdvaruplattform som används här är betydligt mer energikrävande.

Slutsats - En kraftfull spelmaskin med en hyfsad hårdvarunivå

Medions X30 är en tunn, lätt bärbar dator för spel med kraftfull hårdvara. A Core i9 12900HK processor och en GeForce RTX 3080 Ti gPU för bärbara datorer (maxTGP: 175 watt) möjliggör QHD-spel vid maximala inställningar, med hjälp av snabba PCIe-4 SSD-enheter och 32 GB RAM.

Erazer Beast X30 från Medion levererar mycket bärbar kraft, men detta har ett pris.

Processorn och GPU:n kan arbeta med konstant höga klockfrekvenser. Prestandan för single-thread är dock under CPU:ns kapacitet - kanske Medion kan förbättra detta med en BIOS-uppdatering. Buller och värmeutsläpp ligger på den vanliga höga nivån för klassen. Prestandaprofilen Office Mode kan minska detta på bekostnad av beräkningskraften.

Den matta, betraktningsvinkelstabila 17,3-tumsskärmen (QHD-upplösning) ger ett bra helhetsintryck. Batteritiderna är okej. En nackdel: Batteriet kan inte laddas via USB-C-platsen (Thunderbolt 4), som ändå erbjuder andra alternativ som att ansluta en extern GPU eller en omfattande dockningslösning.

Ett alternativ till X30 är Razer Blade 17 (2022), som erbjuder något mer prestanda för enstaka trådar och GPU-prestanda samt Advanced Optimus.

Pris och tillgänglighet

Den granskade versionen av X30 kan hittas utanför Tyskland i alla kända nätbutiker eller prissökmotorer när detta publiceras - priset bör ligga mellan 3 700 och 3 900 euro. Medion-butiken har en något mindre kraftfull variant (Core i7-12700H, GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, 32 GB RAM, 2 TB SSD) för cirka 2 600 euro. En något bättre utrustad variant (Core i9-12900HK, GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, 64 GB RAM, 2 TB SSD) finns tillgänglig för strax under 4 000 euro.
