Lenovo ThinkPad P16v G1 AMD recension - Instegsstation med Zen4

Ryzen 7 Pro i P15v:s efterträdare. Med ThinkPad P16v G1 erbjuder Lenovo en prisvärd mobil arbetsstation som kan konfigureras med antingen en AMD- eller Intel-processor. Vi testade AMD-versionen utrustad med en Nvidia RTX A1000, som särskilt sticker ut med sin imponerande långa batteritid.

Lenovo har lagt till en ny instegsmodell till sin mobila arbetsstationsserie med ThinkPad P16v G1. Den bärbara datorn är tillgänglig med antingen AMD- eller Intel-processorer, och du kan välja mellan integrerad grafik och Nvidias professionella GPU:er RTX A500, RTX 1000 och RTX 2000 Ada.

Den billigaste AMD-modellen börjar på cirka 1 400 euro (1 533 USD) och har en Ryzen 5 PRO 7560HS med integrerad Radeon 760M, 8 GB RAM, en 256 GB SSD och en 1080p-panel. Den högst specificerade AMD-varianten kostar 3 200 € (3 503 USD) och levereras med en Ryzen 9 PRO 7940HSen RTX 2000 Ada, 64 GB RAM-minne, 4 TB SSD-lagring och en 4K-skärm.

Vår granskningsenhet (modellnummer 21FE0004GE) kostar 2 099 € (2 298 USD) och är utrustad med en Ryzen 7 PRO 7840HSen Nvidia RTX A100032 GB RAM-minne, en 1 TB SSD och en Full HD-panel med fullständig sRGB-täckning.

Fodral - ThinkPad i plast med röda detaljer

Den bärbara datorns instegsnatur är tydligt uppenbar i valet av material. Lenovo har gett ThinkPad P16v G1 ett chassi helt i plast. Ändå känns både locket och toppen av bassektionen trevliga och är inte särskilt mottagliga för fingeravtryck. Å andra sidan är bottenfodralet och skärmramen grövre och känns också billigare. När det gäller passform och finish, konkurrenten HP ZBook Power definitivt en fördel med sitt metallchassi.

Förutom de vanliga röda elementen, som TrackPoint och de röda accentlinjerna på de dedikerade musknapparna, har Lenovo gått ett steg längre med P16v G1 genom att lägga till ytterligare en röd accentlinje över enhetens baksida. Naturligtvis är personlig smak alltid subjektiv, men vi är inte helt säkra på om detta är lämpligt för en mobil arbetsstation.

Den bärbara datorn är i grunden robust, men nackdelar är oundvikliga mot dyrare ThinkPad-modeller. Mitten av bassektionen kan tryckas in något, och locket har också en hel del flex. Som sagt, detta resulterar inte i några knarrande ljud eller bildförvrängning. Gångjärnen är ganska väl avstämda, men det finns en märkbar wobble när du justerar skärmens vinkel. Skärmen kan inte heller vikas tillbaka 180 grader.

När det gäller storlek och vikt ligger nya P16v G1 nästan exakt mellan den tunna ThinkPad P1 G6 arbetsstation och den rejäla ThinkPad P16. Laddaren på 170 watt väger 554 g (1,22 lb) tillsammans med strömkabeln.

Specifikationer - AMD-version med USB4

Den AMD-baserade arbetsstationen har två moderna USB-C-portar med USB4-stöd, som båda är placerade på baksidan av den bärbara datorn. Gränssnitten är fördelade över alla tre sidor, men detta arrangemang är inte idealiskt. Vi skulle hellre ha haft HDMI-utgången på baksidan; det skulle också ha varit trevligt att ha åtminstone en USB-port till vänster. ThinkPad P16v G1 kan utrustas med en SmartCard-läsare som tillval. Användare kommer dock att behöva klara sig utan en dedikerad Ethernet-port, som endast kan läggas till med en USB-C-adapter.

SD-kortläsaren till vänster har en fjäderbelastad mekanism. Ett SD-kort skjuter ut mycket lätt när det sätts i. Med vårt referenskort (Angelbird AV Pro V60) lyckades vi nå genomsnittliga överföringshastigheter i området 70-90 MB/s.

AMD ThinkPad är utrustad med en Qualcomm Wi-Fi 6E-modul (WCN685x) som stöder den nuvarande Wi-Fi 6-standarden samt Bluetooth 5.2. Den levererade mycket höga och stabila överföringshastigheter när den var ansluten till vår Asus referensrouter.

ThinkPad P16v G1 kan också konfigureras med en WWAN-modul (4G LTE) före beställning, men detta kan inte läggas till senare eftersom varken SIM-kortläsaren eller de nödvändiga antennerna är installerade som standard.

Webbkamera

Även om Lenovo har installerat en 5MP webbkamera är bildkvaliteten inte särskilt bra. Även under bra ljusförhållanden ser bilderna knappast bättre ut än de som tas av 1080p-webbkameror. Det finns också en IR-kamera ombord för Windows Hello ansiktsigenkänning.

Underhåll

Bottenhöljet fästs på plats med några stjärnskruvar och kan tas bort helt. Servicevänligheten är bra som helhet. Förutom de två SO-DIMM-platserna för RAM-minne finns det två platser för M.2 2280 SSD-enheter. Fläktarna är enkla att rengöra och batteriet är bara fastskruvat. Den trådlösa modulen är dock fastlödd och kan inte bytas ut.

Inmatningsenheter - 1,5 mm rörelse och nummerplatta

Inmatningsenheterna på P16v G1 liknar dem på den vanliga P16 när det gäller layout och mekanism, bortsett från det faktum att tangentbordet på P16v är svart istället för mörkgrått. Tangenternas rörelse mäter ungefär 1,5 mm och är därmed i linje med den nuvarande ThinkPad-standarden. Med det sagt är det synd att Lenovo har slutat använda de mycket överlägsna tangentborden med 1,8 mm rörelse även på stora arbetsstationer. Sammantaget är tangentbordet inte på något sätt hemskt, men i slutändan har P16v G1 inte längre någon fördel över konkurrerande enheter som HP ZBook Power G10 i detta avseende. ThinkPad-tangentbordet har en vit bakgrundsbelysning med två ljusstyrkor; strömknappen (uppe till höger) fungerar också som fingeravtrycksläsare.

Användaren kan flytta runt muspekaren med hjälp av antingen ClickPad eller TrackPoint. ClickPad är något förskjuten åt vänster och erbjuder tillräckligt med utrymme för inmatningar (11,5 x 6,8 cm, eller 4,5 x 2,7 in), men som väntat har lite utrymme avsatts för de dedikerade TrackPoint-knapparna. Själva plattan fungerar bra och gav oss inga problem, även om klickljuden är ganska höga. Detta gäller också för de tidigare nämnda TrackPoint-knapparna, som kom över som mycket billiga. Men själva TrackPoint fungerar perfekt när du väl har vant dig vid den.

Lenovo erbjuder totalt fyra skärmalternativ för ThinkPad P16v G1. Som standard levereras den bärbara datorn med en matt IPS-panel med en upplösning på 1 920 x 1 200, en maximal ljusstyrka på 300 nits och 45% NTSC-täckning. Du har också möjlighet att få den här skärmen med pekskärmskapacitet. Vår testmodell är utrustad med tillvalet Full HD med 100% sRGB-täckning. Det finns också ett alternativ med 4K-panel med 800 nits maximal ljusstyrka, full DCI-P3-täckning, fabrikskalibrering och HDR-stöd.

60Hz-panelen på vår testenhet är tillverkad av BOE och erbjuder respektabel bildkvalitet i våra ögon. Färgerna är tillräckligt livfulla och innehållet ser tillräckligt skarpt ut på 16-tumsskärmen. Ljusa områden verkar inte heller korniga. Svarstiderna är dock något långsamma och du kommer också att märka mindre spökbilder på skärmen i vardagen, till exempel när du flyttar muspekaren. Panelen använder inte PWM och uppvisar endast minimal bakgrundsbelysning vid full ljusstyrka och på en mörk bakgrund.

Vår granskningsenhet lyckades nå en genomsnittlig toppljusstyrka på drygt 340 cd/m², vilket överstiger den annonserade ljusstyrkan på 300 cd/m². Detta, tillsammans med den låga svartnivån, resulterar i ett fantastiskt maximalt kontrastförhållande på över 2 000:1.

Vi mätte panelen med den professionella CalMAN-programvaran (X-Rite i1 Pro2) och fann att det fortfarande finns utrymme för förbättringar direkt från förpackningen. Vi identifierade en lätt gröntoning och gråskaleavvikelser över vårt målvärde på 3. Det fanns också några avvikelser när det gäller färger. Efter att ha utfört vår kalibrering (motsvarande profil finns tillgänglig som en gratis nedladdning ovan) lyckades vi förbättra skärmens färgåtergivning avsevärt. Endast 100% rött var marginellt över målvärdet med ett DeltaE 2000 på 3,2. I kombination med den nästan fullständiga sRGB-täckningen är det dock fortfarande möjligt att redigera foton och videor på skärmen.

Display response times show how fast the screen is able to change from one color to the next. Slow response times can lead to afterimages and can cause moving objects to appear blurry (ghosting). Gamers of fast-paced 3D titles should pay special attention to fast response times.

This means that the measured response time is worse than the average of all tested devices (33.7 ms).

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

In comparison: 53 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 17903 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 3846000) Hz was measured.

Testförhållanden

Lenovo har inte tillhandahållit ytterligare prestandalägen på sina ThinkPads på länge, utan istället valt att integrera sina egna inställningar direkt i Windows energilägen - mycket bekvämt för användarna. Vi utförde följande mätningar och riktmärken med den bärbara datorn i bästa prest andaläge.

Processor - Ryzen 7 PRO 7840HS

Ryzen 7 PRO Ryzen 7 PRO 7840HS erbjuder förbättrade säkerhetsfunktioner (jämförbara med Intel vPro) men är i övrigt lik den vanliga Ryzen 7 7840HS. Detta innebär att processorn har 8 Zen4-kärnor (max. 16 trådar) med en maxfrekvens på 5,1 GHz. Dess effektgränser är inställda på 64/54 watt, ungefär som processorn i ZBook Power 15 G10 (likaså en Ryzen 7 PRO 7840HS). Konkurrerande Intel-processorer kräver betydligt mer ström. Sammantaget levererar AMD-processorn utmärkt prestanda och är till och med något bättre än Core i7-12850HX i Dell Precision 7670. De andra enheterna i vår jämförelse erbjuder mer CPU-prestanda som helhet. Med detta sagt hade P16v G1 en prestandaökning på hela 35% jämfört med ThinkPad P15v G3 med en Ryzen 7 PRO 6850H.

Prestandan förblir stabil under belastning, men processorn har bara 18 watt till sitt förfogande när den körs på batteridrift. Prestandan är därmed betydligt begränsad i flerkärniga tester (40% minskning i CB R23 Multi). Fler CPU-resultat finns tillgängliga på här.

Det integrerade Radeon 780M på AMD-chippet hanterar grafikbearbetning under enkla uppgifter. För mer krävande arbete växlar systemet automatiskt till den dedikerade RTX A1000 bärbar dator. Detta kort är en Nvidia professionell GPU som tyvärr fortfarande inte är baserad på den nuvarande Ada Lovelace-arkitekturen. Istället använder den samma GA107-chip som också finns på konsument-GPU: n GeForce RTX 3050.

RTX A1000 i den bärbara datorn har 6 GB VRAM och en TGP på 45 watt, vilket innebär att det är en relativt långsam variant (TGP kan variera från 35-95 watt för A1000). Den har ungefär samma prestandanivå som den tidigare RTX A2000 med 4 GB VRAM och liknande TGP (se P15v G3 med 40 watt), men är mycket långsammare än den nya RTX 2000 Ada (jämförbar med GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop).

GPU-prestandan förblir helt stabil under långvarig belastning, även om grafikkortet måste klara sig med 40 watt ström när den bärbara datorn körs på batteri. Detta gör att grafikprestandan sjunker med ca 7%. Fler GPU benchmark-resultat finns tillgängliga i vår tekniksektion.

Spelprestanda

Du kommer inte heller att ha några problem med att spela med Nvidias professionella drivrutiner; vi stötte på noll problem under våra tester. Spelprestandan för RTX A1000 är mer eller mindre i nivå med en RTX 3050 med 6 GB VRAM eller en RTX 3050 Ti. Många äldre titlar kan därför köras smidigt i 1080p och höga till maximala inställningar. De som också vill spela mer krävande spel bör dock välja RTX 2000 Ada som tillval.

Utsläpp - Arbetsstation med dåliga högtalare

Utsläpp av buller

De två fläktarna i ThinkPad P16v G1 förblir vanligtvis inaktiva under grundläggande uppgifter. Fläktljudet förblir till och med behagligt tyst (36 dB(A) baserat på vår mätning) när du bara belastar processorn eller grafikkortet. Vi uppmätte cirka 44 dB(A) ljud under spel, men fläktarna tenderar att börja skramla något vid 40 dB(A) och högre. Den mobila arbetsstationen blev mycket högljudd under stresstestet och nådde cirka 50 dB(A). Vår testenhet gav inte ifrån sig några andra elektroniska ljud.

Temperatur

Det finns inga problem med yttemperaturer vid låg belastning. Detta ändras dock när du applicerar belastning på både CPU och GPU. Speciellt på undersidan av enheten uppmätte vi temperaturer över 55°C (131°F) på vissa ställen, vilket innebär att du definitivt bör undvika direkt hudkontakt med dessa områden. Med detta sagt förblev ovansidan av basdelen svalare, och temperaturerna hölls under 40°C (104°F) nästan överallt på tangentbordet. Därför är det möjligt att skriva ordentligt på tangentbordet även under full belastning.

GPU-förbrukningen låg på stabila 45 watt under stresstestet, medan processorn kördes på 54 watt i ungefär 12 minuter innan den återgick till 45 watt. Vid batteriladdning förbrukade GPU:n fortfarande 40 watt, men processorn minskade ytterligare till 18 watt.

Högtalare

De två stereohögtalarna är överlag ganska usla. Även om mellanregister och höga toner låter rent, vilket är användbart för att spela upp röster, saknar högtalarmodulerna helt enkelt kraft och dynamik. Dessutom är basen praktiskt taget obefintlig.

Energihantering - lång batteritid

Strömförbrukning

Strömförbrukningen i viloläge översteg inte 6,7 watt, vilket är extremt lågt för en 16-tums enhet. Däremot är det ingen överraskning att ThinkPad krävde cirka 150 watt under stresstestet, även om detta snabbt sjönk till cirka 135 watt. Den medföljande 170-wattsadaptern är därför tillräckligt kraftfull för den bärbara datorn.

Kombinationen av låg strömförbrukning och ett 90 Wh-batteri gav mycket lång batteritid under våra tester. ThinkPad klarade nästan 18 timmar i vårt videotest vid 150 cd/m² (motsvarande 71 % av maximal ljusstyrka på vår testenhet) och nästan 15 timmar i vårt Wi-Fi-test. Även med skärmens ljusstyrka uppskruvad lyckades vi få ut 12 timmar ur enheten. Det här är utmärkta resultat som konkurrerande enheter inte kan hålla jämna steg med. Vid maxbelastning laddades batteriet ur helt på lite mer än en timme. Det tog cirka 2 timmar att ladda upp den bärbara datorn helt när den var igång, och batteriet återfick 80 % av sin laddning efter 65 minuter.

Lenovo lanserade ThinkPad P16v G1 för att ersätta den gamla ThinkPad P15v med en något större 16-tums modell. Den grundläggande idén bakom arbetsstationen på grundnivå förblir densamma: den är avsedd att vara en relativt prisvärd gateway in i den professionella arbetsvärlden. Den nödvändiga CPU-prestandan tillhandahålls av ett aktuellt AMD Zen4-chip, som levererar bra prestanda trots de något låga effektgränserna på max 64 watt. Men avancerade arbetsstationer som ThinkPad P16 med Intels HX-processorer erbjuder ännu mer processorkraft. En annan kritikpunkt är att CPU:ns prestanda kraftigt reduceras när den bärbara datorn körs på batteri.

På samma sätt är de enda tillgängliga grafikkortsalternativen lågprismodeller från Nvidia (RTX A500, RTX A1000 eller RTX 2000 Ada). Men du kan också helt avstå från en dedikerad GPU. Prestandan för RTX A1000 med 6 GB RAM-minne är överlag hyfsad, men det är en relativt långsam variant med en TGP på 45 watt. Med tanke på den bärbara datorns stora 16-tums formfaktor kunde mer säkert ha fått ut av det.

ThinkPad P16v G1 är Lenovos nya instegsmodell i arbetsstationssegmentet. Dess prestanda är tillräcklig, men du måste naturligtvis stå ut med kompromisser inom vissa områden (t.ex. chassikvalitet, kylprestanda) jämfört med den dyrare ThinkPad P16.

Chassit är helt tillverkat av plast och visar tydligt att P16v G1 är en instegsenhet. Enheten har god användarvänlighet och har två SO-DIMM-platser och plats för två M.2 2280 SSD-enheter. Det är dock inte möjligt att lägga till en WWAN-modul eftersom Lenovo inte har förinstallerat de nödvändiga antennerna eller SIM-kortläsaren. Tangentbordet erbjuder modern ThinkPad-kvalitet och Full HD-skärmen har full sRGB-täckning och är ett anständigt val för normala uppgifter. Det finns även ett alternativ med 4K-panel (800 cd/m², P3 & HDR) om du vill ha något bättre.

Den största konkurrenten till ThinkPad P16v G1 är utan tvekan HP ZBook Power G10som känns mer premium tack vare sitt metallchassi. Båda bärbara datorerna kan utrustas med liknande specifikationer men skiljer sig annars inte så mycket. HP använder dock fortfarande en 16:9-skärm och kan inte heller hålla jämna steg med ThinkPad när det gäller batteritid. Dell erbjuder Precision 3581 i denna prisklass, men vi har fortfarande inte haft möjlighet att ge den här enheten en chans.
