The only real drawback to the MateBook X Pro, apart from its contentious webcam, is its price. When Huawei first launched the laptop, its $1,499 price tag was particularly compelling. Two years later, with minimal upgrades, it's difficult to see where the extra money is going compared to other Windows 10 ultraportables. Nevertheless, if you can stomach paying a little more, and especially if you are already in the Huawei device world via a smartphone, the Huawei MateBook X Pro is a solid performer. It will be a while until it launches in the U.S. so we can benchmark it properly, but if you're willing to step outside the mainstream it should keep you satisfied.

Every so often you get to see a laptop and say wow and Huawei has achieved that with the MateBook X Pro. They chiseled a gorgeous piece of machinery here. Near edge to edge 3K display is unseen and especially on its close to 14” frame. It’s great for viewing content or getting some work done. Its lightweight and is qualified to give you impressive battery life pushing around 15 hours on a good day. Webcam isn’t all that great and is hidden and can stay there. For what it’s worth you expect this laptop to be hefty on the price tag but for what you are getting its in a nice ballpark figure. The Core i5 version runs for $1,199 while the Core i7 will cost you $300 more at $1,499. Funny thing is depending where you look either model is usually out of stock as they flip in and out of inventory. MateBook X Pro is at the top of the Ultrabook pile and its for good reason.

Last year's had an Nvidia GeForce MX150 with 2GB GDDDR5, and this year's has a GeForce MX250 with 2GB GDDR5.

I really wanted this to be $600 to -$800 cheaper, I believe that will triple their potential buyers market and give the option to steal some Macbook users over to their platform. That’s really the only barrier for purchase that I can come up with, so if you’re happy with the price then buy one. If that is a barrier for you purchasing, there are plenty of very good options out there for between $1800 – $2600 where you’ll get an exceptionally good laptop still.

It does make this MateBook X Pro cheaper than earlier models, but they lose their graphical advantage and still end up more expensive than current competition. The 55Wh battery is pretty reasonable, with close to eight hours of movie playback and more than a full day’s work lifespan. It’s also got a nice keyboard and trackpad, the screen is brighter than most laptops, and the besels are particularly compact. It’s wrapped in a nice metallic body and comes with a power button that doubles as a fingerprint reader. So there’s still plenty to like, but we can’t help but feel laptops have progressed a little more than the MateBook X Pro over the last few years, which means the top dollar price just doesn’t seem reasonable any more. A premium laptop that hasn’t delivered much innovation over the last few years.

I had a good time with the HUAWEI MateBook X Pro. It has a beautiful design, premium build, amazing screen, decent battery life as well as good audio. However, there are some issues with the HUAWEI MateBook X Pro. Some of these issues are those mentioned before such as the awkward webcam placement, the slight lack of connectivity ports, the thermal issues and the wonky trackpad. The trackpad on the MateBook X Pro is really not good to the point where I resorted to using a mouse due to the sheer frustrations it gave me. Regardless of these shortcomings, I still think that the HUAWEI MateBook X Pro is perfect for those looking for a great work companion as well as looking great while using it. The screen is an absolute beaut and the touchscreen will prove useful during presentations. It is also great for one or two Netflix binge sessions and the speakers work pretty well. Also, it can handle some gaming as well albeit at a limited capacity.

Huawei:

Det här är mindre avancerade grafikkort för användare som ändå vill kunna spela spel. Nya spel bör vara spelbara, men ofta bara med låga detaljinställningar och låg upplösning. Eftersom moderna grafikkort i den här klassen har låg strömförbrukning kan även batteritiden vara bra.
