The HP Victus 16 (16-s0000) is definitely a good gaming laptop that doesn’t cost too much. Of course, the device has its drawbacks like the rigidity of the plastic build that could be improved, the single M.2 slot, and the absence of 10 Gbps ports. With that out of the way, the rest is good given the price tag. The overall performance is snappy because of the potent cooling system. In our case, the Ryzen 5 7640HS can maintain a stable clock under any kind of load and the 120W version of the GeForce RTX 4050 is able to sustain 2550 MHz after 30 minutes of gaming. That’s enough for productivity tasks or for playing games with bumped visual quality with high FPS. In addition, the thermals on the inside are always in check, and on the outside, the keyboard isn’t scorching hot to the touch so you can use it comfortably while gaming.

The Victus 16 does have its rough edges, most notably the 1920x1080 display, which cries out for an upgrade at the time of purchase - or a decent external display if you have one available. However, the AMD processor and RTX 4050 graphics provide plenty of muscle, enabling the Victus to deliver strong gaming performance at a competitive price. Battery life is also better than that of most 16-inch laptops, so it can cope with the occasional trip to school or the office for reports and presentations too.

It’s a shame to see that HP hasn’t addressed the failings of previous Victus models. The screen is big and the resolution is not a problem, but low brightness levels and poor colour reproduction shouldn’t be an issue on a gaming laptop costing more than £1,000. The keyboard doesn’t have the quality or RGB skills of the keyboards on Acer’s latest Nitro laptops, and the design, connectivity and build quality aren’t quite where they need to be. At around the same price point, the Nitro 5 is a stronger all-rounder, while Gigabyte’s G5 gives you similar performance for under £1,000. The Asus TUF Gaming A15 (2023) is another strong contender, with a Ryzen 7 CPU and an RTX 4060 GPU for only £30 to £50 more. The Victus 16 makes up for these shortcomings by giving you great performance for the money, both in office and creative applications and in the latest games. It even keeps up with the Asus in some tests, despite having a less capable GPU.

Mid-range grafikkort för bärbara datorer baserat på Ada Lovelace-arkitekturen. Erbjuder 6 GB GDDR6 (96 bitar) och är konfigurerbar med en TGP på 35 - 115W (+ Dynamic Boost).

De här grafikkorten bör klara av alla nuvarande spel med acceptabel bildfrekvens, men inte nödvändigtvis med höga inställningar. Särskilt krävande spel kanske bara fungerar med låga inställningar. Till skillnad från prestandakorten hittar man däremot de här grafikkorten i bärbara datorer av lite mindre format med bättre batteritid.
