What we are looking at is an incomparable laptop. There’s nothing quite like it in terms of productivity and gaming performance, even the price of more than $4000 is not that frightening, considering that less productive laptops cost almost the same. Yes, you can build your own setup for a price like this. It will even include a monitor, peripherals, and a webcam (yes, its absence bothers me). But even with a Mini-ITX case, it won’t be as compact and elegant as ROG STRIX SCAR 17 SE. The best comparison here is a sports car: this is not the best option for the daily commute, or a shopping day in the mall, it may be not the best all-rounder car overall, but people just can’t get their eyes out off it, and it absolutely shines on the track. ASUS ROG STRIX SCAR 17 SE is a sports car – it draws attention and crushes other laptops when it comes to game performance. And while it’s not suitable for your daily working routine, there’s no lack of fans of this game-only approach. After all, this top-spec laptop, just like the limited edition Lamborghini or Ferrari is already sold out, at least in Ukraine.

The upgradability is good – two SODIMMs for up to 64GB of DDR5-4800MHz and two M.2 slots compatible with Gen 4 SSDs. We just wanted to see faster memory here (at least the device has 1Rx8 sticks, which is fine) because the performance of the AMD CPUs can be seriously boosted with snappy RAM. Aside from that, even with not-so-fast memory, the CPU is still a beast. Interestingly, the NVMe gets hot (61°C) while benchmarking but there is no sign of throttling. However, the SSD thermals are normal in standard usage. The keyboard is great – it has a per-key RGB backlight and it’s comfortable for both typing and gaming (and it’s quiet). The touchpad is fast and smooth but it’s a bit noisy for work. The build quality is good with few exceptions here and there. The I/O didn’t offer even a single Thunderbolt 4 / USB4 connector but still, the selection is good with two USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) ports and a 2.5G LAN. With that out of the way, we can conclude that the ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 G733 (2023) is a gaming powerhouse.

Right now, you can get the RTX 4090 / 7945HX Strix Scar 17 for £3,300 (down from the usual price of £3,800) and the RTX 4080 / 7945HX model for £2,900. In the UK, the Strix Scar 17 X3D will have an RRP of £3,799, but I don’t know if it will be available with the cheaper RTX 4080 GPU. There is no doubt that the latest version of AMD’s already impressive Dragon Range Ryzen R9 7945H CPU has moved the goalposts regarding gaming performance. The ROG Strix Scar 17 X3D can run games even faster than MSI’s monstrous Titan GT77 and leaves other RTX 4090 machines we’ve tested, like the Medion Erazer Beast X40, in its dust. The outstanding performance does put into sharp relief the fact that the basic design of the ROG Strix Scar 17 is now getting rather long in the tooth and has been supplanted by the ROG Strix Scar 18 in the Asus ROG hierarchy. I’m sure there are good reasons why Asus has taken this route, but it still leaves the consumer paying top dollar for an old design of car, albeit one with a new engine.

Because normally, I could just play some AAA game titles on max settings without much trouble in the past from ROG's predecessors. So hopefully, AMD can send a fix patch or something. For a high-end gaming laptop at the price of RM16,999, that's basically the normal price range thanks to inflation and the weak Ringgit currency. Nevertheless, it's still a powerful device capable of handling gaming and content creation. So if you do have the budget for this, by all means, go for it but perhaps do be careful with the graphics settings.

At $3499, ROG has a balanced performance and cooling capabilities for laptops of this calibre. Even though the long-time debate of Intel vs AMD is still around, personally, I think it doesn’t matter much if you’re getting this laptop solely for gaming purposes. That is unless you’re planning to include content creation tasks into the mix, then the 16C32T AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX would be around 10% faster than the Intel counterpart.

AMD has really come out swinging with its new Dragon Range processors. They provide extremely impressive multi-core performance but do so while consuming surprisingly little power and heat. Combine that with a top–of–the–range Nvidia RTX 4090 GPU and you have what is one of the most powerful and practical gaming laptops on the market. That said, I am left wondering why you can’t buy the new Ryzen 9 chip in the latest ROG Scar Strix 16 or 18 form–factor with the impressive Nebula Mini-LED display. For a Mini LED fix outside of Asus, consider the pricey Razer Blade 16 or, for the more value-minded, consider the non-Mini LED Medion Erazer Beast X40. The Ryzen 9 7945HX chip will soon be available in the new Alienware 16 and 18 as well as the new Lenovo Legion Pro 7 16 gaming laptops so there is an argument for holding off making a purchase until we get a chance to put those three through their paces.

AMD has really come out swinging with its new Dragon Range processors. They provide extremely impressive multi-core performance but do so while consuming surprisingly little power and heat. Combine that with a top–of–the–range Nvidia RTX 4090 GPU and you have what is one of the most powerful and practical gaming laptops on the market. That said, I am left wondering why you can’t buy the new Ryzen 9 chip in the latest ROG Scar Strix 16 or 18 form–factor with the impressive Nebula Mini-LED display. For a Mini LED fix outside of Asus, consider the pricey Razer Blade 16 or, for the more value-minded, consider the non-Mini LED Medion Erazer Beast X40. The Ryzen 9 7945HX chip will soon be available in the new Alienware 16 and 18 as well as the new Lenovo Legion Pro 7 16 gaming laptops so there is an argument for holding off making a purchase until we get a chance to put those three through their paces.

If you’re looking for the closest you can get to desktop PC performance in a gaming laptop, this should be on your short list. Not everything is great, but for the most part, it all evens out. The display brightness is simply okay, but color accuracy is good and the 240Hz refresh rate and G-Sync support are key for gaming. Similarly, the battery life is surprisingly short, even when you’re not gaming, but given the gaming focus of the laptop and the 6.61-pound weight, you’ll likely spend most of your time plugged in anyway. No matter how you look at it, spending over $3,000 on a laptop isn’t an easy decision. That said, looking at the hardware inside the Asus ROG Strix SCAR 17, it’s a decent value even if it may not be a bargain. This is where the powerful Ryzen chipset pays off; for an Intel-powered laptop with this kind of horsepower, you’d find yourself spending much more.

Compared to the model we reviewed last year, the new ROG Strix SCAR 17 has lost unnecessary elements (such as the UV flashlight and KeyStone), which you won't have to overpay for when buying a flagship laptop. Yes, its price has indeed become lower, although it is still not a cheap desktop replacement. But with an AMD processor, the user will also get perhaps the best performance, and the quality of all other elements remains at a very high level. There are also some minimal differences (there are fewer speakers, but a webcam has appeared), although for the most part they do not play a significant role. So, in the end, ROG Strix SCAR 17 is still one of the best options for gaming and demanding tasks if your budget allows you to spend 159,999 UAH on a new laptop.

Sure, it's expensive, but it has one of the most well-balanced spec sheets that I've come across in this category, so that money is being spent on the components that matter, rather than over-speccing the memory or including a display that the GPU can't make the most of. If you're seeking the best of the best, the Strix Scar 17 demands your attention.

Let’s just say that if you need a top-of-the-line laptop for gaming and work and don’t want to bother with assembling a desktop (or you simply don’t need one), then it is definitely worth it, it fully justifies its cost. Otherwise, you can build a similar desktop PC for the same amount of money and you will not be limited in power at all. For example: the mobile RTX 4090 (150-175W) can lag behind the desktop version (450W) in performance by 30-80%, depending on the resolution and the application under test.

The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 has the fastest gaming laptop cpu I've ever tested and the crazy part is its by AMD. It's using the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX CPU paired with a NVIDIA RTX 4090 and its ridiculously fast. Hope the review helps you out.

The latest wave of high-end gaming laptops to come through the lab have been nothing short of impressive. Not only do they offer meaningful and significant performance improvements over the previous-generation, but their feature sets are more in-tune with what gamers actually want. Their performance, displays, connectivity, input devices and overall aesthetics are simply a notch above previous-gen mobile PC gaming offerings, which culminates in improved experiences all around; and the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 powered by AMD’s Ryzen 9 7945HX sits among the elite in this class. In fact, the newest ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17, in the configuration we tested, is arguably the most powerful laptop currently available. Further, AMD's Ryzen 9 7945HX that powers the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 is the multi-threaded, mobile performance champion, with highly-competitive single-threaded performance as well. The GeForce RTX 4090 in the machine offered top-notch performance too, though it didn’t take the top spot across the board versus the larger MSI Titan GT77 HX. The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 also offers somewhat more tame acoustics and thermals than some competing gaming notebooks and pricing is somewhat competitive as well. As configured here, the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 is available for $3,499. That’s not cheap, but for what is arguably one of the fastest gaming notebooks in existence currently, it’s not astronomical either. Overall, we really like the AMD Ryzen-powered ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17. Its performance, fit and finish are all top-notch. If you’re considering a no compromise, high-end gaming laptop the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 should absolutely be on your short list.

Although AMD has made big strides in gaming laptops over the last couple of generations, Intel has still firmly held the performance crown. That was especially true for Intel’s flagship chips, which AMD didn’t have any clear answer for. The Ryzen 9 7945HX changes that dynamic, and the Strix Scar 17 is a great showcase for the chip. As a laptop, the Scar 17 is solid as well. The price feels reasonable given the level of hardware inside, even if it means sacrificing in areas like the screen and overall build quality. Even with those sacrifices, you’re getting peak performance in a design that can handle the hardware inside with ease.

The ROG Strix Scar 17 is a value-first machine that delivers top-tier performance. It's AMD at its best on the mobile platform, thanks to the 16-core Ryzen 9 7945HX processor, which delivers blistering performance. Paired with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 inside the machine, the 2023 iteration of Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 is good enough for any game you throw at it, with ease. Plus, the performance status quo will remain intact for at least the next few years. The design is not exactly new, but it's nothing to scoff at. Asus is apparently too fond of its tried-and-tested aesthetics and wants to serve it for another generation. I'm glad that Asus didn't try to cut on the thickness because the slim ROG Zephyrus series gaming laptops from Asus tend to struggle with heat dissipation.

De här grafikkorten levererar bäst 3D-prestanda för bärbara datorer. De kan hantera alla nya spel i hög upplösning och ofta med avancerade inställningar.
