AMD:s nya desktop-APU:er Ryzen 5 2400G och Ryzen 5 2200G kändes som en frisk fläkt i lågbudget-segmentet. AMD:s reviderade Zen-arkitektur är mer än bara en enkel uppfräschning. Zen+-arkitekturen har förbättrats betydligt och kan nu uppnå högre nivåer av prestanda med i princip oförändrat energibehov. Ryzen 7 2700X är det nyanlända flaggskeppet och efterföljaren till Ryzen 7 1800X. Båda dom nya processorerna är konkurrensmässigt prissatta och är redo att tävla med Intels senaste sortiment om bäst förhållande mellan pris och prestanda. Dom har redan tydligt vunnit slaget om multitrådade uppgifter, men för enkeltrådat arbete är i7-8700K fortfarande herren på täppan. Även Ryzen-modellerna som inte är flaggskepp utgör en betydande förbättring framför sina föregångare och är runt 10% snabbare. Med sex kärnor så erbjuder Ryzen 5 2600X tillfredsställande prestanda för sitt pris på bara ca 2 000 kronor.

Dom nya Ryzen-processorerna har förbättrats både för enkel och multitrådad prestanda. Med sina nya Zen+-processorer minskar AMD avståndet till Intels Coffee Lake. Men det finns ingen tydlig vinnare i detta slag om överlägsen beräkningskapacitet då dom båda tävlande har sina unika för och nackdelar.

Ett X470 moderkort är egentligen inte ett krav för dom nya CPU:erna, men det rekommenderas på grund av sitt stöd för XFR2 Enhanced och Precision Boost Overdrive, som båda låter Ryzen-processorerna klockas en aning högre och köras ytterligare lite snabbare. Men om du väljer att hålla dig till X370-plattformen kommer en BIOS-uppdetering krävas för att stödja dom nya processorerna. En del återförsäljare kommer till och med att erbjuda att uppgradera BIOS åt dig innan köp, så din nya hårdvara är redo när du får den.
Totalt sett så erbjöd båda Ryzen-processorerna mer än hyggligt med prestanda och båda kan även rekommenderas åt gamers. Faktum att AMD återigen inkluderar en bra kylare, som i fallet med flaggskeppsmodellen till och med har RGB-belysning, är lovvärt.
