Display Response Times

Display response times show how fast the screen is able to change from one color to the next. Slow response times can lead to afterimages and can cause moving objects to appear blurry (ghosting). Gamers of fast-paced 3D titles should pay special attention to fast response times.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

T480s är en väldigt välbalanserad företagslaptop av hög kvalitet. Den dedikerade Nvidia GeForce MX150 (trots att det är en Max-Q version) gör den mer mångsidig genom att göra den lämplig för vardags-gamers. Även om utförandet inte är helt perfekt.

CPU-prestandan, till exempel, är utmärkt med dess i7, men testet visar att prestandagränsen för det här kylsystemet har nåtts – detta gör att den påstått snabbare i7-modellen blev långsammare vid kontinuerlig belastning än sin i5-motsvarighet som sitter i den billigare T480s. Dessutom, likt med den mindre ThinkPad X280, så fick den omogna CPU-prestandahanteringen processorn att somna under stresstestet. Ytterligare en likhet med X-modellen: CPU:n stryps i batteriläge. Det finns mer kritik som den delar med den tidigare testade T480s: Temperaturen på utsidan är jämförelsevis hög (men intressant nog så ökar dess MX150 inte temperaturen ytterligare), högtalarna är dåliga och ThinkShutter-kameraöverdraget finns inte tillgängligt i kombination med den infraröda kameran som krävs för Windows Hello.

Lenovo lyckades nästan bocka av alla rutor med T480s. Det positiva överväger det negativa med råge, vilket är anledningen till att vi också rekommenderar T480s med MX150.

Detta är giltig kritik, även om den står mot den långa listan över fördelar som T480s har, såsom dess bekväma inmatningsenheter, det lyxiga chassit, det välavrundade portutbudet, den bra batteritiden och den matta, ljusstarka och färgexakta WQHD IPS-skärmen. Med allt detta i åtanke kan vi helhjärtat rekommendera T480s med MX150.

Dess huvudsakliga konkurrenter är Dell Latitude 7490, HP EliteBook 840 G5 och den dyrare ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2018 som är en konkurrent inom familjen – vi ska även testa Latitude och EliteBook i en nära framtid. Alla tre kommer med sina egna fördelar jämfört med T480s, Latitude kan, till exempel, erbjuda potentiellt längre batteritider med sin energisnåla IPS-skärm medans EliteBook har alternativ för betydligt ljusstarkare skärmar. X1 Carbon är å andra sidan betydligt lättare och kompaktare samt kommer med ett alternativ för HDR-skärm. Med det sagt, T480s behöver verkligen inte gömma sig för sina konkurrenter, Lenovo har skapat en utmärkt mix av funktioner.

Uppdatering 24.03.2018: Den nya Bios-versionen 1.11 fixar problemet med att processorn somnar.
