Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

Efter att ha recenserat 2020 års revidering av MateBook X Pro får vi intrycket att Huawei helt enkelt satt i nya och förbättrade hårdvarukomponenter i en redan existerande design utan att ha tänkt särskilt mycket på optimering och finjustering. Vi kan inte komma på någon annan förklaring till varför CPU:n presterade sämre än på den två år äldre föregångaren och varför GPU:n hamnade långt efter sin egentliga förmåga. Jämför vi enheten med moderna integrerade grafikchipp ser vi att det inte längre känns aktuellt att kombinera en ULV-processor med en dedikerad GPU på instegsnivå. Det hade istället varit ett mycket bättre val att använda en Intel Ice Lake CPU med den integrerade G7 GPU:n. Det hade inte bara minskat mängden komponenter utan också gjort det lättare att förbättra och optimera kylningen. Även om prestandan fortfarande är fullt tillräcklig för en kompakt subnotebook får man tänka på att MateBook X Pros konkurrenter lyckas uppnå samma prestanda utan dedikerad grafik.

De goda nyheterna är att detta i princip är alla dåliga nyheter vi har. På alla andra områden lämnade Huaweis subnotebook ett gott intryck, hela vägen från det vackra, välgjorda och högkvalitativa aluminiumhöljet till den högupplösta skärmen (även om användbarheten utomhus begränsades en aning av den kraftigt reflekterande ytan) och den mer än tillräckliga batteritiden.

Trots faktum att CPU-prestandan var en aning låg är MateBook X Pro en skaplig subnotebook. Du kan däremot utan tvekan välja den billigare Core i5-modellen. Fördelar med MateBook X Pro inkluderar bland annat ett tjusigt hölje och en utmärkt skärm.

För 16.000 kronor är MateBook X Pro inte direkt ett kap och vi kan inte riktigt förstå hur Huawei misslyckades att notera prestandaproblemen under utvecklingen. Men den verkliga upplevelsen är mer än bara prestanda, och totalt sett förtjänar den här enheten vårt stöd. Du kan däremot utan oro stryka Core i7-processorn från din önskelista, för den lyckas inte göra någon skillnad i prestanda överhuvudtaget.
