Android-smartphones i ~1 600 - 2000 kronorsspannet är ganska vanliga från Kinesiska tillverkare som Leagoo, Xiaomi, Bluboo, Oppo och Vivo. Det som gör Honor 7X så speciell jämfört med flodvågen av andra billiga alternativ är en större marknadsmässig ansträngning från Huawei. Till skillnad från dom flesta telefoner från tidigare nämnda märken så är Honor 7X faktiskt kompatibel med Amerikanska 4G LTE-nätverk, är mer tillgänglig  utan att man behöver importera den och den har den finansiella backningen från en av dom största Kinesiska smartphone-tillverkarna. Tillsammans så skapar dessa fördelar en större kvalitetskontroll som köpare utanför Asien oftast inte får från mindre kända Kinesiska märken. Huawei-modellen är mycket mindre av en chansning för den lilla investeringen.

Det finns oerhört mycket värde i Honor 7X. Dess låga utgångspris ger användaren en 5.93-tums FHD-skärm med samma 18:9-förhållande som dom senaste flaggskeppsmodellerna som kostar 5 gånger så mycket har. Dess fingeravtrycksläsare, dubbla 4G SIM-platser, utökningsbara lagring och 3.5 mm ljudutgång är bara några av dom funktioner som till och med dyrare alternativ inte alltid har. Den väldigt tunna formfaktorn är en annan överraskning då den ser ut som den dyrare Mate 10 Pro hela vägen ner till dimensionerna och placeringen av knappar och portar. Slutresultatet är en smartphone som känns dyrare än den är.

En del nedskärningar behövde göras, men som tur är verkar dom vara begränsade till ovidkommande funktioner snarare än hårdvarukvalitet. Köpare kommer få avstå NFC, IR, 802.11ac, WiFi-samtal, trådlös laddning och USB Typ-C samtidigt som en del specifika EMUI-funktioner är utelämnade såsom Hotspot och Navigation Dock. Från det perspektiven så är den grundläggande upplevelsen inte oväntad och kommer troligen inte avråda den tilltänkta budgetmedvetna publiken.

Skärmens långsammare responstider, avsaknaden av snabbladdning och dom minimala fördelarna i rå prestanda från Kirin 659 jämfört med Kirin 655 som sitter i Honor 6X besviker dock. Ghosting är synbar vid surfande och dom 2+ timmar det tar att ladda kan vara smärtsamt för den som använder telefonen mycket. Honor X7 känns inte nödvändigtvis långsammare eller snabbare än sin direkta föregångare, på gott eller ont. Kameror med högre kvalitet, mer ljud från högtalaren och potentiellt högre ljusstyrka avslutar listan på saker vi hade önskat oss hos en eventuell efterföljare.

Honor 7X beskrivs av många i pressen som den bästa Android-smartphone som går att köpa för ~1 600 SEK och vi kan inte säga emot. Amerikanska användare i synnerhet kommer ha svårt att hitta en Android-smartphone som är så här billig och har motsvarande uppsättning funktioner utan att behöva ta till osäkra importmodeller. Vi hoppas att framtida versioner kommer åtgärda synlig ghosting och långsam laddning utan att behöva flytta priset uppåt från dess bekväma, välavvägda plats.
