Display response times show how fast the screen is able to change from one color to the next. Slow response times can lead to afterimages and can cause moving objects to appear blurry (ghosting). Gamers of fast-paced 3D titles should pay special attention to fast response times.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

HP ZBook 14u G5 är en mobil arbetsstation på 14 tum som uppfyller kriteriet på att vara en arbetsstation tack vare en snabb CPU och en GPU av professionell standard. Paketet rundas av med många säkerhetsfunktioner och en snabb NVMe SSD. Totalt sett så har HP skapat en ganska billig mobil arbetsstation för 16 800 kronor som ställer frågan om huruvida det är värt att spendera mer för en mer avancerad arbetsstation.

Det finns dock några nackdelar, i huvudsak skärmen. En maximal ljusstyrka på 215 cd/m² är oacceptabelt för den här prisnivån, vilket även gäller för den dåliga färgrymdstäckningen. Till och med billiga kontorsenheter har bättre skärmar än ZBook 14u G5. Även om enheten i praktiken kan vara ansluten till en dockningsstation och till externa skärmar så hade vi förväntat oss en bättre skärm på en mobil arbetsstation. Vi förstår heller inte avsaknaden av en kortläsare.

Prestandan hos kylsystem, CPU och GPU lämnar en hel del att önska. Kylsystemet når sin gräns vid belastning medans dess CPU presterar sämre än motsvarande processor i jämförbara enheter. Än värre, dess GPU hamnar ofta efter den äldre GPU:n AMD FirePro W4190M. Detta innebär att föregångaren till ZBook 14u G5 presterar bättre i en del professionella applikationer.

HP ZBook 14u G5 är tunnare än sin föregångare, som har ett chassi av högre kvalitet. HP har skapat en imponerande mobil arbetsstation som kräver uppmärksamhet från intresserade köpare.

På den positiva sidan så erbjuder HP en stor variation av konfigurationsalternativ. Tyvärr finns det inga alternativ till dess AMD Radeon Pro WX 3100. Sammantaget så är systemprestandan skaplig, medans bra batteritid är en bonus. Dessutom så framtidssäkrar till viss del USB Typ C-porten med Thunderbolt denna enhet.
