Pavilion provar Ryzen. Jämfört med Intel-modellerna är AMD:s Ryzen-processorer fortfarande ganska ovanliga på bärbara datorer. Därför är det extra intressant att vi har en AMD-driven modell från HP på vårt kontor.

Display response times show how fast the screen is able to change from one color to the next. Slow response times can lead to afterimages and can cause moving objects to appear blurry (ghosting). Gamers of fast-paced 3D titles should pay special attention to fast response times.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

I ärlighetens namn var våra förväntningar innan detta test en aning högre. HP Pavilion 15 är en lågprisenhet med en tjusig design och bra konstruktionskvalitet. Men systemet känns inte bara långsammare, det är verkligen långsammare. Vi hade nöjet att testa denna Pavilion 15 (AMD Ryzen 5 2500U) samtidigt som vi testade Pavilion 14 (Intel i7-8550U). Ibland startade vi prestandatesterna samtidigt och långt efter att Intel-processorn var klar var AMD-varianten av Pavilion fortfarande mitt i. En Ryzen 5 2500U CPU är förstås inte på samma nivå som en i7-8550U och ligger istället närmare en i5-8250U, men skillnaden var avsevärd. På grund av det kan vi inte hålla med PCMark 8-resultaten som framställer Pavilion 15 som snabbare än 14-tumsversionen av HP Pavilion 

Men kylprestandan och de tysta fläktarna är definitivt fördelar. Inte ens vid full belastning förkommer någon överhettning och temperaturerna håller sig på en bekväm nivå.

HP kunde ha tagit Pavilion en aning lägre och fabrikskonfigurerat den för ett högre TDP-värde eller längre turbo-varaktighet.

Å andra sidan hade det varit skadligt för batteritiden, som redan är en av enhetens svaga punkter. Prestandatesterna visade väldigt tydligt att denna laptop absolut inte är gjord för spel. Den integrerade grafiklösningen är alldeles för svag för att hantera spel utan ryckighet ens på lägsta detaljnivå. Totalt sett är HP Pavilion 15 en genomsnittlig arbetsenhet med en tjusig design som gör sitt jobb, men den står inte ut från mängden.
