Vi högaktar Alienware 17-serien för kvalitetsstandarden, som tack och lov håller lika hög nivå i den senaste iterationen. En bärbar dator är mer än bara CPU- och GPU-konfiguration – även grundkonstruktion och design förstärker helhetsintrycket. På den här nivån är det lättare att rekommendera den senaste Alienware istället för en 17-tums Aorus eller MSI GT72.


Några problem uppstår emellertid på den här höga konfigurationsnivån. Vår testenhet är utrustad med de snabbaste CPU- och GPU-varianterna på marknaden och chassit kan nätt och jämnt hantera kretsarna med maximala Boost-klockfrekvenser. Inget kommer förstås att smälta vid extrem belastning, men kärntemperaturerna kan nå 90 grader eller högre när man spelar, trots att fläktarna jobbar för högtryck med en ljudnivå på upp till 50 dB(A). Här har tjockare spelmaskiner med mer kraftfulla kyllösningar som MSI GT73VR eller Acer Predator 17 X överhanden.


Ovanstående och det faktum att datorn är utrustad med grafikförstärkarporten Graphics Amplifier är faktiskt goda skäl att välja en enklare konfiguration av 17 R4, med GTX 1050 Ti eller GTX 1060-grafik. Det finns en god chans att de väsentligt lägre TDP-kraven för dessa grafikkretsar leder till tystare fläktar, lägre temperaturer, längre batteritid eller eventuellt alla tre. Därefter kan användare som behöver mer grafikkraft i ett senare skede använda Graphics Amplifier-porten för framtida titlar. Det här är det enda esset som Alienware-serien har i rockärmen jämfört med de flesta konkurrenter.


Utöver det finns det inte mycket att klaga på. Fler funktioner skulle inte skada, såsom individuellt upplysta RGB-tangenter, fler USB-A-portar och en integrerad SD-läsare, men det är invändningar på hög nivå. För gamers som är intresserade av Graphics Amplifier-porten och ett högkvalitativt chassi kan instegsmodellerna vara värda att överväga. Annars finns det tystare (och tjockare) system för användare som vill ha en bärbar dator med GTX 1080.
