Alienware är ett välkänt namn bland gaming-fantaster och 17 R4 är i stora drag en utmärkt maskin. Tangentbord och styrplatta är godkända och RAM-minnet och lagringsutrymmet hade kunnat vara bättre. Lyckligtvis kommer processorn och grafikkortet från översta hyllan, och skärmen med inbyggd ögonspårning ger fina resultat. Datorn är tung och väsnas som ett jetplan, men höga prestanda och lågt pris gör den ändå till ett bra köp.

There are rough edges. Zone backlighting is a bit outdated, the fans are loud, battery life is average, and the extra inch-plus of venting adds insult to injury in terms of the Alienware 17’s size. I’d love to see Alienware branch out and bring its unique aesthetic to a thin, lightweight Max-Q laptop one of these days.

Overall, if you’re looking for a desktop replacement that delivers form and function, the latest Alienware 17 is a fantastic option. At a smidge under $3,000, it’s a pricey notebook for sure, but we found a similarly configured Sager NP9876 to cost more without the excellent look and feel of the Alienware 17. If it were up to us, we’d go for the model with the GeForce GTX 1070 and 1080p IPS display for $2,299, which drops the price enough for an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Mobile:

De här grafikkorten bör klara av alla nuvarande spel med acceptabel bildfrekvens, men inte nödvändigtvis med höga inställningar. Särskilt krävande spel kanske bara fungerar med låga inställningar. Till skillnad från prestandakorten hittar man däremot de här grafikkorten i bärbara datorer av lite mindre format med bättre batteritid.
