De två nya bärbara speldatorerna från Acer, Predator 15 och vår testmodell Predator 17, är väldigt lika i många avseenden och detsamma gäller vår slutsats. Förutom designen utmärker sig 17-tumsmodellen med hög vikt och storlek. Konkurrenterna kan erbjuda motsvarande prestanda trots lättare och mer kompakta chassin.

Det beror delvis på kylningen, som inte övertygade oss helt. Den klarar att hålla komponenterna svala, men kan föra en hel del oväsen. Det här är en av de mest högljudda bärbara datorerna bland våra jämförelseenheter i medelbelastningsscenarier. Den extra fläkten FrostCore låter bra på pappret, men hjälper inte komponenterna alls i praktiken. Den kyler ner vänstra sidan av handledsstödet i stället.

Andra nackdelar är begränsad Turbo-klockning, GPU-strypning vid maximal belastning, de mediokra högtalarna och att bakgrundsbelysningen blöder. Underhållsmöjligheterna är begränsade.

Om Acer kan rätta till de här problemen inför nästa uppdatering bör vi få en mycket bra enhet, eftersom även det här första försöket är lyckat i vissa kategorier, inklusive ett stabilt chassi, en ljusstark skärm med hög kontrast, mycket bra batteritid, moderna portar och användbara verktyg.
