Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge 16 recension av bärbar dator - Den snabbaste Snapdragon X Elite utmanar AMD:s Zen 5

Det snabbaste Qualcomm-chippet. Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge 16, som för närvarande är den enda bärbara datorn som är utrustad med den snabbaste Snapdragon X Elite-processorn (X1E-84-100), har högre klockfrekvenser för processorkärnorna och en snabbare Adreno GPU. Den slimmade Galaxy Book4 kan dock bara utnyttja sin prestandapotential i begränsad omfattning.

Vi har redan testat Galaxy Book4 Edge 16 med den nya ARM-processorn Snapdragon X Elite, men Samsung erbjuder också sin slimmade bärbara multimediadator med den snabbaste Snapdragon-processorn som för närvarande finns tillgänglig från Qualcomm. Klockfrekvensen för alla kärnor har stigit till maximalt 3,8 GHz och dess dubbelkärniga turbo har stigit till 4,2 GHz. Dessutom har den den snabbare versionen av Adreno X1-85 GPU.

Eftersom den inte har några ytterligare skillnader jämfört med den variant av Galaxy Book4 Edge 16 som vi redan testat - förutom dess snabbare SoC, naturligtvis - kommer vi främst att fokusera på dess CPU/GPU-prestanda i denna recension. Sedan lanseringen för bara några veckor sedan har Samsung redan sänkt priserna på den bärbara datorn rejält. Basmodellen med X1E-80-100 som vi redan testat kostar nu endast 1 099,99 USD istället för 1 449,99 USD och dagens testenhet med X1E-84-100 och en större 1 TB SSD kostar nu endast 1 349,99 USD istället för 1 749,99 USD. Tyvärr kommer båda varianterna endast med 16 GB RAM.

Prestanda - Snapdragon X Elite på 4,2 GHz och med en snabbare GPU

Snapdragon X Elite Snapdragon X Elite X1E-84-100 är den snabbaste mobilprocessorn från Qualcomm, vars 12 kärnor alla har en maximal klockfrekvens på 3,8 GHz och dess dubbelkärniga turbo kan nå maximalt 4,2 GHz. Som ett resultat bör det vara en bra bit snabbare än X1E-80-100 (max. 3,4 GHz för alla kärnor, max. 4,0 GHz dubbelkärnig turbo). Dessutom är X1E-84-100 utrustad med den mer kraftfulla versionen av X1-85 GPU. Av okända skäl levereras även Samsungs dyrare version av Galaxy Book4 Edge 16 endast med 16 GB RAM (LPDDR5x-8448) - som inte heller kan uppgraderas.

 
 

Testförhållanden

Tre olika energiprofiler finns tillgängliga i Samsungs inställningar: tyst, optimerad och hög prestanda. Den optimerade profilen är aktiv som standard, vilket vi också använde för följande mätningar och benchmarks. I högprestandaläget gynnas endast den bärbara datorns flerkärniga prestanda (enkärnig och GPU är nästan identiska med de svagare profilerna) och vi körde även CPU-benchmark i detta läge - men de betydligt högre fläktarna stod inte i proportion till den ökade prestandan.

Processor - X1E-84-100

X1E-84-100 X1E-84-100 är det snabbaste Snapdragon X Elite-chipet som Qualcomm för närvarande erbjuder i bärbara datorer (det finns också X1E-00-1DE i dev-kitet med en 4,3 GHz dubbelkärnig turbo). Alla 12 kärnor har en maximal klockfrekvens på 3,8 GHz och den maximala dubbelkärniga turbon är 4,2 GHz. Följande diagram visar en Cinebench 2024 Multi-körning i alla tre energilägen - du kan tydligt se att den maximala klockfrekvensen bara är tillgänglig under några sekunder och sedan sjunker den avsevärt. Även när man använde läget hög prestanda var det permanent bara ~ 2,8 GHz på alla kärnor, så mycket lägre än de teoretiskt möjliga 3,8 GHz. Det verkar som att kylningen helt enkelt är alldeles för begränsande i det här scenariot och att X1E-84-100 inte alls kan utnyttja sin fulla flerkärniga potential.

Men vad betyder det för dess prestanda? Under det senaste Cinebench 2024-multicore-testet var dess resultat bara genomsnittliga och den förmodligen svagare X1E-80-100 inuti Vivobook S 15 var 14 % snabbare än X1E-84-100 i högprestandaläget. Allt som allt var Galaxy Book4 Edge 16 i nivå med AMD:s nya Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 inuti Zenbook S 16 på 28 watt. Apple aMD:s passivt kylda M3-chip i den direkta konkurrenten MacBook Air 15-slogs med hästlängder, men det passivt kylda M3 Pro i MacBook Pro 16 var dock snabbare.

Under testerna med en enda kärna var den bärbara datorns prestanda överlag mycket bra, men dess fördel jämfört med X1E-80-100 var bara liten. Den slog Meteor Lake-chipen såväl som de senaste Zen 5-chipen. Vi är nyfikna på att se hur de kommande Lunar Lake-processorerna från Intel kommer att prestera. Apple intels M3-chips kom fortfarande före i enkärniga tester, och tillverkarens ledning kommer sannolikt att öka ytterligare med sina kommande M4-chips.

Förutom de inbyggda CPU-testerna utförde vi även våra vanliga CPU-benchmarks, som måste emuleras på Snapdragon-processorn och därför inte är representativa för dess faktiska prestanda. Men det finns helt enkelt inte inbyggda versioner av alla applikationer, så hur den kör emulerade appar är inte heller helt oviktigt. Som förväntat hade AMD och Intel en klar fördel i detta scenario.

Vi kunde inte utföra vårt standardiserade latensprov eftersom LatencyMon-applikationen inte kunde startas på ARM-systemet. När vi spelade upp en 4K YouTube-video noterade vi åtminstone inga problem med tappade bildrutor.

Lagringsenhet

SSD-kapaciteten i den dyrare Galaxy Book4 Edge 16-modellen har ökats från 512 till 1024 GB - men den använder fortfarande UFS 4.0-lagring som inte kan uppgraderas. Däremot är Intel-versionen av Galaxy Book4 Pro 16 har till och med två M.2-2280-kortplatser tillgängliga. Det finns inga fördelar för användaren i det här fallet. Lagringschipen i vår testenhet kommer från Samsung själv, vilket i allmänhet är bra. Dessutom förblir dess överföringshastigheter helt stabila under långvarig belastning. Grafikkort - Adreno X1-85 med 4,6 TFLOPS

Förutom högre klockfrekvenser för CPU-kärnan är X1E-84-100 också utrustad med den snabbare versionen av X1-85 GPU som kan nå en klockfrekvens på 1,5 GHz (1,2 på andra versioner av X1-85). Baserat på våra mätningar bör dess förbrukning vara cirka 4 watt högre. Dess prestandafördel jämfört med den långsammare X1-85-varianten var cirka 15 % under det inbyggda testet, så iGPU:n presterar bra överlag. Den nya Radeon 890M var ungefär densamma, men Apple's M3 GPU (10 kärnor) var fortfarande snabbare. Dess grafikprestanda förblev helt stabil både under långvarig belastning och i batteriläge.

Adreno GPU är helt lämplig för daglig användning, och att spela högupplösta videor är naturligtvis inget problem. När det gäller spel finns det dock ingen verklig skillnad mellan de två Snapdragon GPU: erna.
