HMD Global som licensierar Nokias varumärke för mobiltelefoner har efter en del famlande landat i nischen budgetmobiler med flera års systemuppdateringar, och sedan ett år tillbaka har man tagit den nischen till surfplattor. Nokia T21 är uppföljaren till förra årets Nokia T20, och T21 bjuder då inte på så värst mycket nytt. Chipsetet som driver plattan har fått en blygsam uppgradering från Unisoc T610 till T612 och minneskonfigurationerna har ändrats från 3/32 och 4/64 till mer tillräckliga 4/64 och 4/128. Priset har gått upp också men inte mer än i linje med inflationen. Förutom lång support säger sig HMD Global också satsa på kvalitetskänsla, vilket kanske märks på att plattans skal är i aluminium istället för plast. Kvalitet och många uppdateringar är samtidigt egenskaper som fördyrar enheten. Är du beredd att betala extra för dem kanske du inte tittar på budgetplattor till att börja med. Om du planerar att använda Bank-ID på plattan är det i alla fall skönt att veta att den är garanterad att få Android 13 och Android 14, så det kommer att dröja rätt många år innan bankerna slutar stödja plattans systemversion.

With the T21, Nokia has done what it does best. This is a budget tablet that looks the part and performs reasonably and the ability to finally play video at resolutions above 480p means we finally have a Nokia tablet that’s worthy of a recommendation. It could do with a faster processor and, as a result, performance is mostly identical to last year’s model, notwithstanding the slight improvement in battery life. It’s because of this that the Nokia T21 comes across as more of a do-over than a proper second-gen release. However, as much as I would have preferred Nokia to make improvements across the board, there isn’t much else to complain about with the Nokia T21. If you don’t already own the previous model and you’re searching for something that’s of superior quality to Amazon’s Fire devices, you can’t do much better for £200.
