The LG gram-15Z960-A.AA52U1 ($1,099.99 as tested) is a midrange ultraportable notable for its record-setting light weight. Despite the 15-inch display, it weighs just over two pounds, lighter than many smaller laptops, without compromising the large screen or performance. There's a wide variety of connectivity options and battery life is good, but aspects of the design do suffer given the tight build. The overall construction is a bit flimsy, an issue we experienced with the smaller version of this laptop, the LG gram 14$927.49 at Amazon. The 15-inch version has more positives than the gram 14, and a better price, but the lackluster chassis and keyboard quality still hold the system back.

It's rare that we review a laptop that's unlike everything else on the market. The Samsung Notebook 9 comes pretty close, and the 12" MacBook might if it weren't so small. That makes it hard to offer many points of direct comparison, or to say where the LG Gram 15 fits in the grand scheme of things. I will say that this is a harbinger of laptops of the future--they will continue to get lighter as material science evolves.

That said, manufacturers don’t often cater to those of us who consider each ounce that goes into our bags. Nothing like the Gram 15 has existed before, and I think it’s very uncertain whether an improved version of it will in the future. Machines like this are incredibly rare. This is as good as an extremely ultraportable gets for now—though if Samsung’s 15-inch Notebook 9 is an indication, perhaps there’s a slim chance of even better times ahead.

We think the LG Gram 13Z970 is tough to beat as a premium 13.3-incher. Configured with the same basic specifications as our review model, the competing Dell XPS 13 (2016) and the HP Spectre 13 are at least $100 more expensive, yet don’t offer a touch screen. You can get a touch screen with the Dell, but you'll have to pony up even more. The only major knock against the Gram 14 is its poor speakers, something easily rectified with a good pair of headphones or a Bluetooth speaker. And if I'm nitpicking, the Gram 14 is a bit pricey and there is no place to store the included stylus. If those issues matter to you, the Lenovo ThinkPad C940 is the perfect alternative to the Gram. If not, then the Gram 14 2-in-1 is an excellent option.

Apart from its lack of active cooling, there’s no real reason not to recommend the LG Gram 14. It’s a sleek and extraordinarily lightweight machine with a premium build and gorgeous IPS FHD display. If you can forgive the throttling issue, it’s a decent performer too. The main reason I wouldn’t buy it and why I think you shouldn’t either is that there are better options out there. The LG Gram 14 sits in an unhappy middle ground between power and portability. Want something ultraportable? The Samsung Galaxy Book Ion weighs even less than the LG Gram 14 yet outperformed it in our testing, has better battery life and it has one of the most stunningly bright displays on any laptop we’ve tested at Expert Reviews. Meanwhile, should you require a laptop that can take full advantage of that Core i7 CPU, you’re best off with a machine like the Lenovo Yoga C940 or Dell XPS 13 (2020).

Apart from its lack of active cooling, there’s no real reason not to recommend the LG Gram 14. It’s a sleek and extraordinarily lightweight machine with a premium build and gorgeous IPS FHD display. If you can forgive the throttling issue, it’s a decent performer too. The main reason I wouldn’t buy it and why I think you shouldn’t either is that there are better options out there. The LG Gram 14 sits in an unhappy middle ground between power and portability. Want something ultraportable? The Samsung Galaxy Book Ion weighs even less than the LG Gram 14 yet outperformed it in our testing, has better battery life and it has one of the most stunningly bright displays on any laptop we’ve tested at Expert Reviews. Meanwhile, should you require a laptop that can take full advantage of that Core i7 CPU, you’re best off with a machine like the Lenovo Yoga C940 or Dell XPS 13 (2020).

The laptop is one of a kind and, well, it's priced that way: $1,700, £1,499 and AU$2,809.

LG decision to focus on lightness and portability when it decided to reenter the market is paying off now. It’s quickly becoming the first name people think of when they are looking for the lightest possible notebook. However, for the past few years, that has come at the compromise of performance. The latest Z90P 2021 version of the gram 14 ducks this tradition. This new model is easily the company’s most polished ultraportable notebook yet, blending decent performance with incredible battery life and terrific usability. There are lighter and thinner notebooks but they don’t have the ports that gram 14 has and consequently requires their owners to carry dongles. The gram 14, though, has both USB-C Thunderbolt 4 and USB-A ports, and it’s the only notebook in its class to do so. At S$2,199, it's also quite reasonably priced. As it is, my only real gripe with this notebook is that it doesn’t have a higher resolution display nor is the display touch-capable. All in all, this is a very solid option especially if you are looking for a notebook that doesn't require dongles to work

Let me put it this way – if I was looking for a Windows laptop this would have been among the products I would be seriously considering because of its superb lightweight design, clear promise of durability, and good processing power. Also, for the features on offer, the LG Gram is in no way overpriced as there are thin laptops with the same capabilities demanding much more. In fact, at the present pricing of Rs 82,399 (down from the original pricing of Rs 1,06,00), this is a much sweeter deal.

An equivalent Dell XPS 15 costs $1,849 and offers loads of extra processing power (or $2,149 if you add the OLED screen). That's a far more capable laptop for creatives, but it's not quite designed for the same kind of user. If you replicate the LG's spec on the smaller XPS 13 Plus, it costs $1,499. LG also produces a version of this laptop with a Core i5-1240P processor, 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD for $1,299. That specification can handle modest workloads, but it's even better value if you don't need to run demanding tasks. There are clear conclusions when lining the LG up against all its rivals. With the Gram, you'll get great battery life inside a lighter chassis, but at the expense of processing power and pure screen quality. If you want a featherlight, long-lasting laptop with a big screen and enough power for normal workloads, the LG Gram 16 is very good.

The LG Gram 16 has several perks, including an excellent keyboard and large, attractive display, but weight is what sets the laptop apart. It’s uniquely light for a 16-inch laptop which, in turn, makes it uniquely suited for travel whether you’re driving across town for a meeting or flying across the globe. Yet it’s hard to justify spending over $1,500 on a laptop that lacks discrete graphics or a top-shelf processor from AMD or Intel. Acer’s Swift 3 16-inch, though not as light, offers a very similar user experience for over $500 less. The same can be said of HP’s Envy 17. This narrows the LG Gram 16’s appeal to a niche. It’s certainly the most portable 16-inch laptop sold today, which should earn it some fans. However, most people will expect better performance than what the Gram 16 offers.

The Gram 16 should earn a spot among our best ultrabooks and best 16-inch laptops, but a few things keep me from elevating it even further. The display brightness is merely good enough, not great. The audio quality from the bottom-firing speakers is similarly fine, but not notable. Finally, while I appreciate the full keyboard with a number pad, the slightly cramped keys can be irritating and would take a little time to adjust to.

Compared to the clamshell laptop version of the Gram 16 the new 2-in-1 loses a Type-A USB and HDMI port, gains 280g in weight and gives a small amount away in terms of screen brightness and battery life. To offset that you get a touchscreen, a very capable bundled stylus and the option to use it in tablet, tent or stand mode That's not too much of a compromise in our opinion so we'd gladly take the extra versatility of the 2-in-1 model and pay the small premium for the privilege.

Utvändigt är den nya LG Gram 2-in-1 oförändrad, men när det gäller den interna hårdvaran erbjuder den åtminstone uppdaterad hårdvara. I vår testenhet visar Intel Core i7 att den är kapabel till hög prestanda, även i ett lättviktsformat. Men år 2023 har LG fortfarande inte lyckats eliminera enhetens andra svaga punkter.

Det här är mindre avancerade grafikkort för användare som ändå vill kunna spela spel. Nya spel bör vara spelbara, men ofta bara med låga detaljinställningar och låg upplösning. Eftersom moderna grafikkort i den här klassen har låg strömförbrukning kan även batteritiden vara bra.
