70% Acer’s Swift 16 AI (2026) Gets a Lot Right, But I Can’t Get Past the Trackpad

If you want a clamshell laptop that’s designed to work well with a stylus, the Acer Swift 16 AI (2026) may just be the laptop for you. But for everyone else, it’s just wrong enough to be unsatisfying. The Swift 16 AI is powerful and has solid battery life, but there are more impressive Panther Lake laptops out there. It’s got a large keyboard with a numpad, but the key travel is too shallow to be comfortable, and the oversized trackpad designed for use with a stylus makes it difficult to type on for longer than a quick email.In fact, it feels like the Swift 16 AI may have been better off going with one of the non-X Core Ultra 300 CPUs or even opting for Wildcat Lake because I struggle to see anyone dropping $1,599 or more on this particular Acer laptop.

While the large trackpad isn’t all that useful for most people, there’s no denying the Acer Swift 16 AI is still a fantastic Windows laptop. You rarely get 16-inch notebooks this light, which is a major selling point if you’re always on the move. Toss in the excellent OLED panel, fast Panther Lake performance, and all-day battery life, and you have a winner. If you want a no-frills yet excellent Windows laptop, you can pay $150 more for the Dell XPS 16. The 15-inch MacBook Air M5 is another great alternative, with a lower $1,299 starting price and stronger performance. However, if you like the Acer Swift 16 AI’s unique features, you’ll find it more than adequate as your primary laptop.

You should get it if you're looking for a thin-and-light, big-screen OLED laptop. You won't find many 16-inch models that are lighter than the 3.3-pound Swift 16 AI. And with its modern Panther Lake CPU and ample RAM, it delivers strong performance and lengthy battery life. For only $150 more, though, I still like the Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i 16 Aura Edition for its better build quality and added RTX graphics muscle, even if it is more than a pound heavier.

The Panther Lake Swift 16 AI is Acer’s most convincing product for some time. As a balance between style, quality, performance and value, it’s pretty much perfect, and that’s why it deserves a Best Buy award. I still wish Acer spent a little more time on its sound systems, which continue to let it down, and there really is way too much bloat on this device. That second point is all the more ironic given that the Swift 16 lacks the one Acer control panel I’d like to see – one to adjust the display colour profile. Those are both relatively minor complaints, though. The speaker system I can live with, the display is accurate enough for 95% of uses, and most of the bloat can be easily uninstalled. What’s left is a very fine laptop indeed for the price.

The Acer Swift 16 AI is an incredible machine with amazing performance. It will likely be less expensive than many competing Panther Lake machines with similar hardware, which makes it a good choice, especially if you can find it on sale. However, it’s worth comparing prices and specs. For $1,899, I would pause and think before buying this laptop because of the glare factor alone. Do you want a glossy OLED display? That’s a matter of personal taste, and many people prefer the vivid OLED experience, even at the cost of reflectivity. But, since this is a laptop with long battery life that you may use on the go, a glossy display feels like a real downside. On the other hand, let’s be honest: If my biggest nitpick is a glossy display, that shows just how good this laptop is. While the display is a matter of personal preference, the rest of the machine largely shines. The Acer Swift 16 AI is amazing thanks to Panther Lake, the beautiful OLED panel, and that compelling trackpad.

If there's one thing we miss about the old Swift 16 AI, it's that it was powerful and blessed with a strong set of specs and features, but also quite accessible and affordable for most businesses. The new SF16-71T is a step up in terms of its screen, design and capabilities, but also more expensive, with prices starting at £1799 for this version. That's quite a big investment, but not unreasonable for a device this powerful with such a fantastic OLED screen. It's up against stiff competition from the year-old Samsung Galaxy Book 5 Pro and the upcoming Panther Lake-equipped Galaxy Book 6 Pro, but the new Swift 16 AI can take it. It's a great option for creative professionals, and a strong option for anyone wanting a big-screen laptop without the usual weight and bulk.
