Tillbaka till retro. Gammalt har blivit nytt igen med den här unika jubileumsutgåvan av Thinkpad som slänger ut AccuType-tangentbordet till förmån för en klassisk layout och design. Förutom det nya tangentbordet är det ingenting särskilt nytt med ThinkPad 25 som vi inte redan gått igenom för ThinkPad T470.

Display response times show how fast the screen is able to change from one color to the next. Slow response times can lead to afterimages and can cause moving objects to appear blurry (ghosting). Gamers of fast-paced 3D titles should pay special attention to fast response times.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

The display backlight flickers at 1000 Hz (Likely utilizing PWM) Flickering detected at a brightness setting of 99 % and below. There should be no flickering or PWM above this brightness setting.

The frequency of 1000 Hz is quite high, so most users sensitive to PWM should not notice any flickering.

In comparison: 54 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 8586 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz was measured.

ThinkPad 25 är för dom som saknar det klassiska ThinkPad-tangentbordet eller är envisa fans av serien. Användare som i övrigt är nöjda med AccuType-tangentbordet från nyare ThinkPad-modeller har få anledningar att välja ThinkPad 25 över den vanliga T470.

Intressant nog, konfigurerar man T470 så likt ThinkPad 25 som möjligt så kostar den ungefär lika mycket: ~15 000 SEK ($1900 USD). T470 saknar både GeForce 940MX GPU:n och det klassiska tangentbordet, men har i gengäld en Smart Card-läsare, en aningen högre styrplatta och en skärm med högre ljusstyrka. På så sätt är ThinkPad 25 mer ett steg åt sidan för ThinkPad-serien snarare än en hel generationsuppdatering. Den existerar enbart för att fira ThinkPad-seriens 25-årsjubileum snarare än för att tävla direkt med de senaste och bästa bärbara datorerna, vilket märks på att den har en CPU och en GPU från en tidigare generation. Affärskunder som kräver mer prestanda från hårdvaran behöver vänta ett tag till för den ofrånkomliga Kaby Lake-R och Pascal-uppfräschningarna eller överge skeppet för konsument-modellerna Yoga 920, Spectre 13 2017 eller XPS 13. Turbo Boost-prestandan, GPU-prestandan, fläktljud och förstås tangentbordet är alla i övrigt utmärkta med lite att klaga på.

Trots att det är en av de bästa bärbara affärsmodellerna på 14 tum som finns att tillgå så går det inte att släppa den lilla känslan av besvikelse ur ett jubileumsperspektiv. ThinkPad 25 känns som ett uppkok av T470 istället för något helt unikt. Återigen, detta behöver inte vara något dåligt eftersom T470 var bra till att börja med, men bara tangentbordet räcker kanske inte för att tillfredställa ThinkPad-entusiaster eftersom de klassiska modellerna var så mycket mer än bara deras tangentbord.

Jubileumsutgåvan känns mer som en uppfräschad ThinkPad T470 snarare än den speciella och unika ThinkPad som Lenovo marknadsför den som. Om inte det klassiska tangentbordet är ett måste så bör nuvarande ThinkPad-användare vänta tills nästa större uppdatering till T4x0-serien kommer, särskilt eftersom Jubileumsutgåvan står bakom en väldigt hög betalvägg.
