Medion SPRCHRGD 14 S1 Elite recension: En elegant Snapdragon ultraportabel med påsar med uthållighet

Chansa med din ARM. Med SPRCHRGD 14 S1 har Medion hoppat på Windows on ARM-tåget: Den 14 tum stora datorn erbjuder måttliga utsläpp, lång batteritid, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD och en ljusstark 2,8K-panel (IPS, sRGB, 120 Hz, 16:10). Med ett begärt pris på cirka 1 400 USD (EUR till USD växelkurs vid testtillfället) är det för närvarande en av de mer prisvärda Snapdragon X-bärbara datorerna.

SPRCHRGD står för supercharged och det är en ganska passande beskrivning: En bra uppsättning funktioner kompletteras av ett relativt överkomligt pris (cirka 1 400 USD) jämfört med andra bärbara Windows on ARM-datorer. Qualcomm och dess Snapdragon X Elite SoC hjälper till att driva den ultraportabla datorn.

Konkurrensen kommer i form av enheter som HP EliteBook Ultra G1q 14och Microsoft Surface Laptop 7och Xiaomi RedmiBook Pro 14 2024, den Schenker VIA 14 Pro (M24), den Apple MacBook Air 13 M3, den Samsung Galaxy Book4 Pro 14 och Lenovo ThinkPad T14s G6.

Fodral och funktioner - Medion-datorn levereras med USB 4

S1 har visat sig vara en blickfångare med sina smala ramar, sitt eleganta utseende och ett mattgrått (Precision Gray) aluminiumhölje. Locket kan öppnas i en vinkel på 130 grader och datorn väger knappt 1,4 kg. Det finns dock utrymme för förbättringar när det gäller stabilitet och styvhet: Med lite ansträngning avger basenheten hörbara knarrande ljud när den vrids och så snart du rör vid den bärbara datorn hör du ett sprakande ljud. Passform och finish är inte det bästa du kan hitta.

S1 har två USB-A-portar (1x USB 3.2 Gen 1, 1x USB 3.2 Gen 2) och en USB-C-port (USB 4; Power Delivery, DP Alt-läge). Enheten saknar en egen strömkontakt eftersom USB-C-porten används för att förse den bärbara datorn med ström. Vi skulle gärna ha sett en andra kontakt på den bärbara datorns högra sida. Datorn har två videoutgångar (1x HDMI, 1x DP via USB-C).

Alla bärbara Snapdragon X-datorer stöder Bluetooth 5.4 och WiFi 7. Vi har inte kunnat dra full nytta av det senare på grund av avsaknaden av en lämplig router. Men i kombination med en WiFi 6E-modell uppnådde vi underbara överföringshastigheter. Webbkameran (2,1 MP) gör inget för att sticka ut från mängden. Det finns dock en på/av-knapp för kameran och mikrofonen. Medion har valt att inte inkludera en Ethernet-port, kortläsare eller ett Snapdragon 5G-modem som tillval.

Hållbarhet

Förutom en vanlig, otryckt låda, skyddar en plastpåse och skuminsatser den medföljande hårdvaran. Namnen på plasterna är listade. Reparationer är möjliga tack vare den avtagbara basplattan. Det bör finnas en garanti för programuppdateringar för de kommande åren via Windows uppdateringsfunktion. Medion har gjort både drivrutiner och bruksanvisningar tillgängliga på sin webbplats.

Inmatningsenheter - Superladdat med ett bakgrundsbelyst tangentbord

På det hela taget gjorde det inbyggda chiclet-tangentbordet (belysning i en nivå) ett hyfsat till bra intryck. Dess platta tangenter ger ett behagligt motstånd och en tydlig tryckpunkt. När man skriver ger tangentbordet efter en aning utan att vara alltför irriterande. Det som är synd är de små piltangenterna och ordningen på de tangenter som används för att justera skärmens ljusstyrka är också konstig. Multitouch-klickplattan (ca 11,4 x 7,6 cm) har en exakt tryckpunkt och fungerar som en ersättningsmus.

Skärm - En 2,8K-panel med sRGB-täckning

Den matta 14-tumsskärmen med bildförhållandet 16:10 ger skarpa och jämna bilder tack vare den höga upplösningen (2 880 x 1 800 pixlar) och en uppdateringsfrekvens på 120 Hz. Ljusstyrka och kontrast når sina respektive mål och PWM-flimmer förekommer inte. Panelen är avsedd för inomhusbruk, men den bör även vara läsbar utomhus under lämpliga väderförhållanden. Alternativa displayalternativ är inte tillgängliga.

2,8K-panelen täcker sRGB-färgrymden men inte AdobeRGB- och DCI P3-färgrymderna och det är helt acceptabelt för en bärbar dator med de krav som S1 ställer. Skärmarna som finns i vissa konkurrerande enheter erbjuder mer inom detta område. Det finns också lite att klaga på när det gäller färgåtergivning: Med en avvikelse på 1,86 är målnivån (DeltaE < 3) uppfylld. Kalibrering leder inte till några förbättringar.

Display Response Times

Display response times show how fast the screen is able to change from one color to the next. Slow response times can lead to afterimages and can cause moving objects to appear blurry (ghosting). Gamers of fast-paced 3D titles should pay special attention to fast response times.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

Testförhållanden

Medion har valt att inte använda sina egna prestandaprofiler utan använder istället Windows standardprofiler - vi använde profilerna "Balanced" (batteritest) och "Best Performance" (benchmarks). De flesta av de applikationer och benchmarks som används här är (fortfarande) inte tillgängliga som en inbyggd ARM-version. Emuleringen som krävs för att köra dem resulterar i en prestandahit, vilket gör det svårt att direkt jämföra enheten med Intel- och AMD-baserade bärbara datorer.

Processor

Qualcomms Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78-100:s 12 CPU-kärnor (4P, 8E) uppnår en maximal klockhastighet på 3,4 GHz. En extra turbo boost är reserverad för syskonmodellerna (80-100, 84-100). CPU:n kan under en kort tid erbjuda multithread-prestanda på hög nivå, men i det långa loppet måste den ta det långsammare (CB15-loop). I sin andra körning visade CB15-loopen en kraftig nedgång - oavsett energiprofil. Det verkar som om en nedkylningsfas är nödvändig efter den första högpresterande körningen.

Enligt tillgängliga ARM- och x64-variantbenchmarks (Cinebench 2024, Geekbench 6.2) är Snapdragon i nivå med Intel- och AMD-konkurrenterna när det gäller prestanda med en tråd (Core Ultra 7 155H, Ryzen 7 8845HS). Multi-thread-testerna ger en inkonsekvent bild. Snapdragon-konkurrentens resultat (till exempel, ThinkPad T14s G6) är ungefär på samma nivå som S1.

Masslagring

Testenhetens Kingston SSD (1 TB, PCIe 4, M.2 2280) levererade bra överföringshastigheter men kan inte betraktas som en av de bästa SSD-modellerna. DiskSpd-benchmarket avslöjade termisk strypning av SSD och S1 erbjuder inte utrymme för en andra SSD.
