Now, while we can recommend the MSI Claw 8 to anyone looking for a premium Windows handheld, it may not be suitable for everyone. For instance, if you want to benefit from extra (controller or keyboard) inputs, even in Gamepad control mode, the MSI Claw 8 falls short here. It feels more like a console than a proper PC handheld, so we hope MSI will add the ability to remap controls in Desktop mode and assign keyboard and mouse buttons as secondary functions in Gamepad mode in future updates. If you demand reliable software that doesn't bug out, while offering a ton of handy features, you should take a look at the ASUS ROG Ally, ASUS ROG Ally X, Steam Deck LCD, or Steam Deck OLED instead.

At an MSRP of $1000, the MSI Claw 8 AI+ is asking gamers for a big investment up front, and if you already have a handheld, a laptop, even a Switch 2 that you use regularly, that pricetag may simply make this device, as impressive as it is from a technical standpoint, not worth the money. However, if you are looking for a new primary gaming device (or just have money to burn I guess) this is almost certainly the best handheld currently available. Despite some problems I had with ergonomics, the onboard software, and the battery life, the MSI Claw 8 AI+ still is one premium purchase you'll probably be glad you made.

The market for PC gaming handhelds is getting frighteningly competitive – but MSI is back with a radically improved Claw that only heightens that sense. This is a perfect new option for those seeking out a handheld that brings the latest and greatest in integrated graphical tech, and who don't mind paying a premium for that access. It's possible that, in a year's time, there will be updated versions of competitors to muddy the waters, but right now the Claw 8 AI+ stands alone and is the better for it. If you've got the cash and want a great gaming handheld with the capacity to play almost any game you throw at it in some capacity, you'll find it admirably capable.

So if you need a new gaming handheld, should you get the MSI Claw 8AI+? This is currently my favorite pick, but its not for everyone. If you’re willing to sacrifice performance, the Steam Deck OLED 1TB $649 model is a great way to play less demanding games without Windows 11 woes while the original ASUS ROG Ally offers exceptional value. The Claw 8AI+ outperforms competing handhelds and has re-sparked my love for playing games on the go, but its asking price is a tough pill to swallow.

The MSI Claw 8 AI+ improves on the original with its hardware and software while still being imperfect. The new body color, the larger screen, and the increased power are all welcome. The system feels well made, it can generally run games smoothly enough (as long as you lower some settings), and it has a respectable battery life. If this particular device speaks to you, it will do the job. On the other hand, the new ergonomics leave room for improvement; the performance needs a boost; and the price has officially entered the laptop zone. We still prefer the Editors'-Choice-award-holding Asus ROG Ally X and Steam Deck among handhelds, and if you're not hell-bent on a handheld, your dollar will still go further with a gaming laptop.

The MSI Claw 8 AI+ is one of the most fun gaming handhelds I’ve ever played with. It’s a gorgeous device with an even prettier large 8-inch screen. The Intel Lunar Lake processor meanwhile delivers excellent FHD 60fps performance for most games and more than a playable experience with graphically challenging titles. It’s also a long-lasting device with up to three hours of AAA gaming, and AI helps it maintain power efficiency better than any other handheld. That said, it’s also the most expensive gaming handheld I’ve used at $899 – $100 more than its closest rival, the Asus ROG Ally X. The MSI Claw 8 Ai+’s price really makes consider whether this handheld is better than a laptop that would offer better cooling and longer battery life.

Like the ROG Ally X, you get some decent battery life for a portable gamer. Over two hours of AAA action is standard, even when playing at 1200p resolution with the graphics scaled up. Performance also stays strong thanks to the MSI Claw 8 AI Plus' Lunar Lake smarts and that dual fan cooling. It's not an OLED screen but that panel is bright and boasts decent contrast for an IPS. Those stereo speakers are beefy too. And the MSI Claw 8 AI+ also offers an easily replaceable SSD (not tested), and pull-out controls for customising your game. But is it as good as the ASUS ROG Ally X and Steam Deck? If it wasn't for the sky high price, I'd say snap it up. However, you may wish to wait for the MSI Claw 8 AI+ to be on sale first.

The MSI Claw 8 AI+ is an incredible improvement over the original Claw A1M. The rebuilt Claw has slick gaming performance, impressive battery life, a stunning display, improved thermals, great ergonomics, improved triggers, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, and 32GB of system memory to support it all. Plus, it’s far more stable than the original Claw, which suffered from numerous optimization issues with its Intel Meteor Lake processor. However, the Claw 8 AI+ is the most expensive of the mainstream handheld gaming PCs, costing $899 for the 8-inch model, and $799 for the smaller Claw 7 AI+ A2VM. However, the recently revamped Asus ROG Ally X is $799 for the 1TB model, which makes the Claw pricing seem reasonable since the Ally is a 7-inch handheld.

Intel Arc 140V: Ett ganska snabbt integrerat grafikkort som vissa Intel Lunar Lake-processorer enligt uppgift använder. 140V har 8 Xe²-arkitekturkärnor som körs i upp till 2 050 MHz och 8 strålspårningsenheter; det är DirectX 12 Ultimate-aktiverat och det stöder också alla moderna videocodecs. Om de senaste läckorna av benchmarkresultat är någon indikation, kommer dess spelprestanda att vara något bättre än GeForce MX570.

Det här är mindre avancerade grafikkort för användare som ändå vill kunna spela spel. Nya spel bör vara spelbara, men ofta bara med låga detaljinställningar och låg upplösning. Eftersom moderna grafikkort i den här klassen har låg strömförbrukning kan även batteritiden vara bra.
