Cat, eller rättare sagt brittiska Bullit Group som licensierar varumärket, har karvat ut en nisch för tåliga mobiltelefoner, men konkurrensen från kinesiska tillverkare har hårdnat på sistone. Och så har vi ju coronaviruset som ställde till det med produktionskedjorna i våras. Redan i januari lanserades Cat S32, men när den nu försenat börjar säljas har den bytt namn till Cat S42, kanske för att inte göra det lika uppenbart hur försenad den är. I vilket fall är telefonen tänkt att vara Cats billigare stryktåliga arbetstelefon. Billig är här relativt, 2800 kronor är inte mycket för en smartphone idag, men samtidigt finns det mobiler med liknande prestanda för halva priset.

I only spent a few days with the CAT S42 as my primary device and I’ll admit that I was not only pleasantly surprised if not impressed with it. The phone does many things well. Especially when you consider the retail price is only $299. Battery life is its strongest attribute along with its physical durability. I didn’t purposely drop the phone but the CAT website boasts it will survive a six-foot drop on steel. I didn’t test its waterproof rating either. The IP68 rating indicates it will survive prolonged submersion in water beyond one meter.

It’ll last through a day’s consistent user, and the camera is good enough to do the jobs it will need to do.

De här grafikkorten är inte lämpliga för spel. Om spelet fungerar alls är det ofta med mycket låg bildfrekvens och andra problem med renderingen. Vanligt kontorsbruk och surfande bör däremot fungera bra.
