ASUS Vivobook 16 (M1605) review – it’s not a powerhouse but the battery life is great

The biggest advantage of the ASUS Vivobook 16 (M1605) is the great battery life. We have a machine with a Zen 3 Refresh CPU that isn’t thirsty at all. When you add the 1200p display in the mix, this results in more than 16 hours of Web browsing on a single charge. Not bad for a 42Wh battery! Of course, if you get a laptop with a Zen 4 processor and a 3.2K OLED display, perhaps the battery life could be shorter. This machine is offered with a plethora of processor options. This allows you to pick the right chip for your needs. For casual office or home usage, even the 6-core Ryzen 5 5625U should be fine, if you aren’t too pretentious. It’s not a bad idea to choose a machine with dual-channel memory that will boost the overall performance. On the other side, this notebook can be transformed into a productivity beast with an 8-core Zen 4 CPU like the Ryzen 9 7940HS.

This particular configuration of the ASUS Vivobook 16 (M1605Y) is RM2,999, which sits on the cheaper side on the budget workhouse laptops spectrum. (There’s also the cheaper Ryzen 5 7530U version.) While you’re not getting a colorful display or boomy speakers to go with it, the laptop would be a very solid choice for those looking for something that can do work, and perhaps even heavier workloads, such as coding. For the price, you’ll be getting a lot of good ol’ performance and practicality out of it.

For what you pay for, the ASUS Vivobook 16 M1605 offers a large 16-inch LCD display that offers about 10% more viewing space than a conventional 15-inch laptop and enough performance for general purpose computing at a price point that’s accessible for students and mobile workers with modest needs though it is ill suited for content creation. If you can live with the underwhelming battery life and need something as a light workhorse, this makes for a great budget laptop. For what you pay for, the ASUS Vivobook 16 M1605 offers a large 16-inch LCD display and enough performance for general purpose computing at a price point that’s accessible for students and mobile workers with modest needs.

Overall, for the price of just RM3k, this is a decent laptop. It’s just that the screen is a bit disappointing. However, if you look back at ASUS’s other older laptops – like the ASUS Vivobook M1503, then you’ll get a much better OLED screen at around the same price, and you get a much more powerful CPU too – but less RAM and a slightly smaller screen.

Det här är mindre avancerade grafikkort för användare som ändå vill kunna spela spel. Nya spel bör vara spelbara, men ofta bara med låga detaljinställningar och låg upplösning. Eftersom moderna grafikkort i den här klassen har låg strömförbrukning kan även batteritiden vara bra.
