Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

Om batteritiden inte är viktigt och ej heller dom inbyggda högtalarna för musik, film eller spel så kan Proteus V från PC Specialist vara ett gångbart alternativ för ett skäligt pris. Förutom det tjusiga höljet delvis gjort i aluminium så gillade vi inmatningsenheterna.

Dess övergripande prestanda är mer än hyfsad. Utrustad med 16 GB DDR4 RAM och en SSD så kan Proteus V lätt stå sig mot sådana som Acer, Asus eller MSI. Moderna spel körs smidigt i enhetens inbyggda FHD-upplösning på 1920x1080 tack vare dess Core i7-7700HQ processor och GTX 1060 grafikkort.

Tyvärr visade sig FHD-skärmen vara ganska dålig. Trtots sin höga kontrastratio och låga nivå av svärta så blir den helt enkelt inte tillräckligt ljusstark för att lämna ett bestående positivt intryck och den lider dessutom av undermålig färgrymdstäckning. Fläkthastighetskontrollerna behöver en rejäl uppfräschning så snart som möjligt. Enhetens låga temperaturer är ett tecken på alldeles för aggressivt snurrande fläktar; fläktarna har förmågan att ganska snabbt irritera laptopens användare. Förhoppningsvis kommer PC Specialist förbättra detta med en framtida BIOS-uppdatering.

Därför vill vi, i skrivande stund, mycket hellre rekommendera den aningen varmare men påtagligt tystare Schenker XMG Core 15 trots dess avsaknad av skinande metallytor. Andra 15-tumskonkurrenter kan hittas i vår (portabla) topp 10-lista och på prestandatestsidan för GTX 1060.
