När Samsung lanserade Galaxy Z Flip 7 visade man upp alla tidigare generationer av sina Flip-telefoner så att man själv skulle kunna se vilken utveckling som ändå skett. För från år till år är det oftast inte så stora steg. Varje gång berättar man hur man förbättrat hållbarheten i skärmen och gångjärnen vilket får en att undra hur ömtåliga de första telefonerna egentligen var. I paraden av modeller sticker ändå Z Flip 7 ut, för att man för första gången på länge skruvat på formatet. Att man gjort telefonen tunnare var väntat. Skillnaden är inte dramatisk, jämfört med föregångaren är Galaxy Z Flip 7 1,2 mm tunnare i hopvikt läge. Jag väntade mig inte att ens märka detta, men det gör jag. En hopvikt flip-telefon kan trots allt bli något av en klump i byxfickan, och att denna klump blivit tunnare gör skillnad på riktigt.

Altogether, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is a solid smartphone, and while some aspects of it aren’t up to par with the Razr Ultra, Samsung’s flip phone is more afforable. The Z Flip 7 costs $1,642.99, while the Razr Ultra is priced at $1,899.99. Both phones are considerably too expensive in my opinion, but at least if you want a solid foldable, and the Razr Ultra is out of your price range, Samsung’s handset might be for you. I would recommend this handset to someone who wants to try this sort of foldable phone, doesn’t mind that they’re not getting top quality pictures and isn’t a mobile gamer. However, with a longer battery life, and the great 4.1-inch Cover Screen, the Z Flip 7 isn’t a bad option, but I wouldn’t consider it the best flip style foldable on the market anymore, as that crown can easily go to the Razr Ultra this year.

I started this review by saying I’m not sold on flip phones. The constant need to fold the phone open to do normal phone stuff is a big reason why. It starts to feel cumbersome very quickly. I’m pulling my phone out of my pocket many times throughout the day, and that’s an extra step between me and my task. Motorola makes this experience a bit better by offering nearly the full phone experience on the external display. I simply don’t have to fold a Razr phone open as often as a Z Flip. Samsung greatly improved the Cover Screen hardware, but the software still limits it. So, I’m left with a big, beautiful edge-to-edge screen that can’t really do what I want it to do. Samsung absolutely nailed the Galaxy Z Flip 7’s hardware and design, but for my money, I’d rather have a more powerful external display.

The Razr 60 Ultra was already the better choice for anyone who wants greater customisation for their cover screen – a far more pressing concern than Geekbench results, in my opinion. If you don’t care that much about using the cover screen beyond widgets (or are happy to side-load them via a third-party app), there’s a fairly strong argument for choosing the Z Flip 7 this year. The design is impressively slim and sturdy, battery life is very good, and the extensive software support remains unmatched. If the cover screen were less restrictive, it would be a slam-dunk for Samsung. As things stand, however, I’m still recommending the Razr 60 Ultra over the Galaxy Z Flip 7, because Motorola makes far more of the foldable format.

Summarizing the downsides, there are two things that stand out. One is how Samsung treats the cover screen as some sort of a widget center rather than allowing users to fully customize it, and the other is the Exynos 2500 chipset, which is not flagship-grade. But those are not dealbreakers and with its long software support and many other little improvements, the Flip 7 regains the crown as the go-to Flip phone for buyers.

The phone's processor isn't quite the big leap we were expecting, and the phone often runs warm, which gives us pause. If you have your heart set on the latest flip phone and want an AI companion along for the ride, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is the one to get. Those with battery anxiety, however, might be better served by the longer-lasting Motorola Razr Ultra.

That said, the streamlined software and more appealing contract pricing will surely give the Flip 7 more mainstream appeal.

The compromises are smaller, to the point where they’re easy to ignore. It’s a great all-rounder, has a much better cover screen, better camera performance and an internal screen that’s not too narrow. I really like it. You could argue that Motorola’s Razr 60 Ultra makes better use of the cover screen – and I’d agree with that assessment – but with the build quality, display quality, software optimisations and improved cameras, the Z Flip 7 is much closer to competing with Motorola’s super clamshell. And in some ways, it’s actually better. This is a wonderful phone, and one that’s a joy to use.

I’ve really enjoyed the Galaxy Z Flip 7. The very action of opening and closing the phone is always a joy, despite the snappy action, and the phone feels futuristic and unusual. I love how convenient it is, the large inner screen is great for video, and the multi-tasking features make it useful. The camera is fun, especially if you take a lot of selfies or group photos, and the cover screen’s updated tech makes it look excellent. What the Galaxy Z Flip 7 isn’t is a hardcore gaming machine or a battery life monster. If those aspects are important to you, this will not meet your mobile needs. Neither are especially important to me, and I’ve been able to enjoy the wonderful convenience of the folding design with few concerns, provided I remember to charge it every night. I’d consider an upgrade if I owned a Galaxy Z Flip 5, but not if I owned a Galaxy Z Flip 6.

Overall, I've enjoyed my time with this flexible Galaxy smartphone. Sure, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 still won't suit power users who are constantly snapping or streaming. But I find I can do everything I need to with around 5-6 hours of screen on time per day. That includes camera capture and video chats, mixing it up between the cover and main screens. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 can cope with gaming on the go. BUT, Wuthering Waves runs best with lower graphics settings and this foldable phone does get quite toasty under pressure. Sadly the camera setup hasn't been upgraded at all vs the Z Flip 6. But all the same, this Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 can capture some decent looking pics and home movies, and is especially good for selfie fans. Just expect the usual Sammy processing shenanigans.

I expect something similar this time, but the Exynos chipset’s image processor might change things. I look forward to testing out this device’s cameras, but I’m hoping it’s the same as last year or better, and hopefully not worse. I really liked this year’s Razr Ultra, but Motorola increased the price of its handset to $1,899, which is a little much. Compared to $1,462, Samsung’s handset seems like a better option. Of course, the Razr Ultra has a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, a 4,700mAh battery, a 50-megapixel triple camera setup, 16GB of RAM and more, which makes it more ‘Ultra’ than the Z Flip 7. It’s impressive that Samsung is not raising the price of the Z Flip 7 in Canada, but also providing a better experience. While the phone itself isn’t all that exciting, especially compared to the Razr Ultra, the Z Flip 7 might be foldable if you want a solid experience but don’t want to pay $1,900. Of course, I’ll need to put this through its paces before making any concrete judgments.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 will launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE on 25 July, with preorders open now. The 256GB model is £1,049 and the 512GB version is £1,149. Between the 9th and 24th of July, however, you can get the 512GB model for the same price as the 256GB, essentially getting double the storage for no extra cost. And should you buy the Z Flip 7? Well, I’ll be more sure after the full reviews but, based on this initial hands-on time, I’m more impressed than I expected to be. The new cover display is doing a lot of heavy lifting there, but I also like the sound of some of the software features. Though not quite as revolutionary an upgrade as the Z Fold 7, I think the Galaxy Z Flip 7 has enough to shout about. The larger cover screen, in particular, should make a huge difference to the Flip experience, allowing it to better compete with alternatives from Motorola and Xiaomi while adding a distinctly premium look to the foldable, which, dare I say, was missing before. The lack of any camera hardware changes is a little disappointing to see, but the added camera features – from new filters to a new auto shooting mode – arguably cater more to the Flip user’s needs than a high-res zoom lens. This is a phone designed for selfie takers, after all, and I wager that the 50MP main camera will do just as good a job as ever at that. Some might bemoan the use of the Exynos chipset, but I’d argue that flip-style foldables can rarely handle the thermals that come with top-end performance anyway, so for a less power-hungry user, it’s more than enough.

Having created the current foldables market, Samsung has spent the last few iterations playing catchup as Chinese manufacturers started to out-design the Korean giant with slimmer models and even a tri-folding screen. But with the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, Samsung is finally ready to show who's the king. The new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is a stunner. At 8.9mm thick, it's on par with the the Oppo Find N5, and just slightly thicker than the just-announced Honor Magic V5 (8.88mm thick). Honestly, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is approaching the limits of how thin it can be, due to how phones have to accommodate the USB-C port. Of course, they can always skip the port entirely, and just go with wireless charging, but that's an altogether different story for another time.

I expect something similar this time, but the Exynos chipset’s image processor might change things. I look forward to testing out this device’s cameras, but I’m hoping it’s the same as last year or better, and hopefully not worse. I really liked this year’s Razr Ultra, but Motorola increased the price of its handset to $1,899, which is a little much. Compared to $1,462, Samsung’s handset seems like a better option. Of course, the Razr Ultra has a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, a 4,700mAh battery, a 50-megapixel triple camera setup, 16GB of RAM and more, which makes it more ‘Ultra’ than the Z Flip 7. It’s impressive that Samsung is not raising the price of the Z Flip 7 in Canada, but also providing a better experience. While the phone itself isn’t all that exciting, especially compared to the Razr Ultra, the Z Flip 7 might be foldable if you want a solid experience but don’t want to pay $1,900. Of course, I’ll need to put this through its paces before making any concrete judgments.

När Samsung lanserade årets vikbara blev det inte två utan tre modeller. Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, och så den billigare Z Flip 7 FE. Fast hur ny är Z Flip 7 FE egentligen? Samsung gör ingen hemlighet att den till formatet är identisk med förra årets Galaxy Z Flip 6. Skärmarna är desamma, liksom kamerorna och själva den fysiska konstruktionen. Skillnaderna mot Galaxy Z Flip 6 är lätta att räkna upp: Z Flip 6 har chipsetet Exynos 2400 i stället för Snapdragon 8 gen 3 for Galaxy, 8 GB arbetsminne i stället för 12 GB, kommer i färre färgalternativ, och är förinstallerad med Android 16 och One UI 8 i stället för Android 14 och One UI 6.1. Vad gäller det sistnämnda kommer så klart även Z Flip 6 att få den senaste systemversionen inom kort, så det handlar snarare om att Z Flip 7 FE kommer att få utlovade systemuppdateringar i sju år framöver medan Z Flip 6 har förbrukat ett år och har sex år kvar av systemuppdateringar. Skillnaderna mot Z Flip 7 är större.

Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is a good phone that's worth the premium over the $700 Motorola Razr, but its $900 price feels awkward. By being so similar to the Flip 6 in design but having a slightly slower processor, it's quite possible that a better overall value could be a discounted Flip 6 in the event you find last year's model for a similar $900 price. If the Flip 7 FE itself is discounted into the $700 range, like we are currently seeing at Amazon, then choosing Samsung over Motorola is absolutely the move. But without the sales, the Flip 7 FE could be a good upgrade for someone who prefers Samsung phones, is curious about getting a flip-style phone and wants a more compact handset with decent cameras.

With that in mind, if you can stretch your budget to the flagship Galaxy Z Flip 7, you’ll get much more value for your money. Flip phones are meant to elicit a feeling, but the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is distinct in just how indifferent I feel towards it. The lack of colors and dated front display design detracts considerably from what is ultimately a solid flip phone. On one hand, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is a great choice if you want a no-frills, more affordable folding phone, or if the camera is equally as important as the budget. Plus, at $300 lower than the Flip 7, it’s a compelling offering. However, it is not as convincing when you consider the alternatives, such as the Galaxy Z Flip 6 or Razr 2025. Overall, while the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is a fairly confusing product, it’s a solid phone on its own but hampered by last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the excellent Galaxy Z Flip 7. Against the growing competition, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE struggles to stand out even though it’s a good, if unspectacular, folding phone.

On its lonesome, the Galaxy Flip 7 FE is a decent enough clamshell. It’s powerful enough for daily duties, takes clean and colourful photos, and arrives running the very latest version of Android. Samsung’s update commitments are also excellent, and OneUI is as feature-packed as they come – even if it still doesn’t quite unlock the cover screen’s full potential. The problem is you could say exactly the same about the Galaxy Z Flip 6, which is still readily available. The two are practically tied on specs, but the older handset can now be found at a significant discount from its original retail price. That makes it the obvious choice for anyone wanting a flip phone on a more modest budget. A hefty price cut – and Galaxy Z Flip 6 reserves finally running dry – could add to its appeal, but until then this is a Fan Edition phone that doesn’t do quite enough to earn its fans.

At the time of writing, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 is selling for less than £600 brand new on Amazon. Obviously, that stock isn’t going to be around forever, but the point remains that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE feels overpriced. It’s a slightly inferior version of last year’s compact foldable model, but it sells for hundreds of pounds more. Factoring in the existence of the Motorola Razr 60, which outguns it in several key ways for £50 less, doesn’t really help the Flip 7 FE’s cause. For all that, there’s no denying that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is a tidy, accomplished compact foldable that’s available for £200 less than the fabulous Flip 7. Or that we rated this very phone (more or less) quite highly last year. It would be disingenuous to pretend that the Flip 7 FE is now suddenly a bad phone. It’s not. However, it’s equally fair to say that unless you can find a good deal, you probably shouldn’t buy it.

Samsung’s first attempt at a more affordable flip phone isn’t bad. Performance is solid, as are battery life and camera quality, but it’s far too similar to last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 6 for my liking, especially considering that phone is so much cheaper – at the time of writing. And with the Motorola Razr 60 on the other side, with its superior cover display and cheaper retail price, there’s very little room for the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE to squeeze into the conversation. It’s fine for what it is, but it doesn’t offer nearly enough to justify its existence, and even if it did, it’s still too expensive.

While my favourite mini foldable smartphone of 2025 is still the Motorola RAZR 60 Ultra, Sammy has made some decent strides with this latest model. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 boasts a similar cover screen and bigger battery, but the camera tech remains the same as before. Gaming is possible, if not as strong, while this dinky flipper also offers Android 16 and long support. However, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, or Fan Edition, is a serious downgrade. This budget model isn't actually cheap and more akin to the Flip 6 from last year. Battery life isn't as good, while the performance and features also can't match the Samsung Flip 7. But anyway, here's a proper side-by-side so you can see exactly what's changed and what I reckon, one week later.

Samsung's dual-Flip approach in 2025 makes certain sense in isolation - two different small-size foldables at different price points means more people can find a handset that's a closer match to their budget/needs situation. But the Z Flip7 FE in particular is a bit of a weird proposition when the Z Flip6 still very much exists, is widely available, and is also typically cheaper. That doesn't mean the Z Flip7 FE is bad, of course - it carries the typical traits of the lineup that make the Galaxy Flips possibly the most popular clamshells in existence. You can count on an excellent software experience (with some caveats as to the cover screen) and a competent camera, all in a durable and pocketable package.

You still get the same main and ultrawide cameras, a high-quality folding display, full Galaxy AI support, and that iconic compact design. But for $200 more, the regular Z Flip 7 offers meaningful upgrades: a faster processor, extra RAM, Samsung DeX support, a larger and more capable cover screen, and likely better battery life. For first-time foldable users, the Z Flip 7 FE is an appealing gateway. That said, the Motorola Razr (2025) undercuts it at $699 while delivering a similarly solid clamshell experience — and arguably a more flexible cover screen. Still, if you want to stay in Samsung’s ecosystem, the Z Flip 7 FE brings much of what makes the full Flip great, at a lower price. Unless you really need the larger cover display or power-user extras, the FE model could be the smarter buy.

I’m a little torn here, because I’ve been asking for Samsung to deliver a more affordable version of the Z Flip for many generations now, and on the one hand, it’s great to see the foldable family expanding to more accessible price points. On the other hand, this really isn’t what I had in mind. Fair enough, the 128GB model is currently £50 cheaper than the Galaxy Z Flip 6, you get the Now Brief feature, a new processor and one more year of software support, but none of those additions feel hugely advantageous, and I expect the Z Flip 6 will be discounted further in the very near future anyway.

The thinner bezels on the Z Flip 7 are a great touch to make it look more like a premium phone, but the Z Fold 7’s slimmer design is the big news here. Making the pricey Z Fold 7 look and feel more worthy of its premium price is great, especially when you open it up to see that practically squarish 8-inch display. Combine both those devices with the more-affordable Z Flip 7 FE and the Galaxy Watch 8 models, and it’s not hard to see Samsung’s July Unpacked as a winning event this year. Det här är mindre avancerade grafikkort för användare som ändå vill kunna spela spel. Nya spel bör vara spelbara, men ofta bara med låga detaljinställningar och låg upplösning. Eftersom moderna grafikkort i den här klassen har låg strömförbrukning kan även batteritiden vara bra.
