On the whole, the Samsung Series 7 Chronos performed almost as well as the last 15-inch MacBook Pro we tested (2011). Plus, it sells at a lower price. It has a good finish, powerful components (processor and graphics card), a matte screen and a decent battery life for a laptop this size.

I'm a sucker for skinny chassis with slot-loading optical drives. The Samsung Series 7 (NP700Z5A-S03) ($1,299 list) laptop combines an elegantly slim (under one inch thick) aluminum case with slot-loading DVD±RW drive; sunny 15.6-inch screen and backlit keyboard; quad-core Intel Core i7 power; 8GB of RAM; and a roomy 750GB hard drive yoked to a small solid-state drive or 8GB of cache storage to boost boot and application loading times—all in a package about as light as desktop replacements get, 5.2 pounds.

Overall the Samsung Series 7 is an impressive notebook. It looks good, it feels good and it has had some considerate control tweaks from Samsung. You might consider it a copycat design, but you'll save yourself about £500 over a similar Apple machine, with this 700Z coming in at around £1000.

Det här är mindre avancerade grafikkort för användare som ändå vill kunna spela spel. Nya spel bör vara spelbara, men ofta bara med låga detaljinställningar och låg upplösning. Eftersom moderna grafikkort i den här klassen har låg strömförbrukning kan även batteritiden vara bra.
