Recension av Lenovo ThinkBook 13s G3 AMD - Subnotebook med snabb Ryzen CPU

Förra året hade vi recenserat Lenovo ThinkBook 13s G2 med Intel Tiger Lake -processorer. Nu tar vi en titt på G3-modellen som är utrustad med AMD Ryzen CPU:er. Lenovo byter dock bara ut processorn medan hölje, portar, inmatningsenheter och till och med skärmarna är identiska i de båda versionerna.

Den ThinkBook 13s G3 SKU vi har för granskning har följande egenskaper AMD Ryzen 7 5800U, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD-lagring och en matt Full HD-panel (16:10) för cirka 1 000 euro (~1 000 dollar). Vår testenhet (20YA005YGE) fortsätter att erbjuda Windows 10. Lenovo introducerade nyligen den identiskt byggda modellen 20YA002YGE med Windows 11, som förmodligen också kommer att finnas tillgänglig för 1 000 euro (Campusversionen, 930 euro) från mitten/slutet av januari.

Hölje, utrustning och inmatningsanordningar

Vi är redan medvetna om det silverfärgade aluminiumhöljet för ThinkBook 13s från G2-modellen. Med en vikt på knappt 1,3 kg och en höjd på knappt 15 mm är denna ThinkBook 13s G3 subnotebook mycket kompakt. Enheten ser modern ut tack vare de smala skärmkanterna på alla sidor. Både byggkvaliteten och stabiliteten är helt acceptabla för den här prisklassen, och vi kunde inte identifiera några anmärkningsvärda problem

Fodralet är fäst med Torxskruvar (T5) och kan lätt tas bort. På insidan kan dock endast den kompakta M.2 2242 SSD:n bytas ut medan alla andra komponenter, såsom arbetsminnet och WLAN-modulen, är lödda.

Det finns bara en skillnad mellan Intel- och AMD-modellerna när det gäller portar, och det är att AMD-varianten måste klara sig utan Thunderbolt 4. Den inbyggda USB-C-porten har dock fortfarande stöd för laddning och videoutgång. Lenovo erbjuder dock fortfarande ingen SD-kortläsare. Wi-Fi-modulen (Intel AX200) har stöd för Wi-Fi-standarden 6, och den uppnådde bra överföringshastigheter i vårt test.

Fingeravtrycksläsaren är placerad i strömknappen och fungerar ganska tillförlitligt. Tangentbordet ligger klart ett steg under ThinkPads när det gäller kvalitet på grund av det begränsade tangenternas rörlighet. Det motsvarar de normala IdeaPads men är ändå väl lämpat för vardagsarbete tack vare den tvåstegsbelysning som finns. ClickPad fungerade också diskret utan större problem i vardagligt bruk, men det finns ingen TrackPoint som på ThinkPads.

Vår testenhet använder en standard FHD-panel med en upplösning på 1 920 x 1 200 pixlar (16:10). Det subjektiva bildintrycket av den matta IPS-panelen är bra och även ljusa områden är endast minimalt korniga. Färgerna är dock inte riktigt lika levande och briljanta som på många glansiga skärmar, t.ex. i MacBook Air, till exempel.

InfoVisions panel överträffar klart tillverkarens specifikation för ljusstyrka på 300 cd/m², eftersom vi uppmätte ett maximum på strax under 380 cd/m². Svartvärdet är också lågt och resulterar i ett mycket bra kontrastförhållande på mer än 1 600:1. Ljushalos är endast minimalt synliga vid full ljusstyrka och är inget problem vid daglig användning. Svarstiderna hör inte till de snabbaste och du kan se lätt ghosting, men vi kunde inte mäta något PWM-flimmer.

Våra mätningar med den professionella CalMAN-programvaran (X-Rite i1 Pro 2) visar att panelen är välkalibrerad redan i fabriksskick och att det bara finns en minimal blåtoning, som knappt kan ses med blotta ögat. Vi skulle ändå kunna förbättra skärmen något ytterligare med vår kalibrering (ICC-färgprofilen kan laddas ner gratis ovan), men det är egentligen inte nödvändigt. Panelen täcker sRGB-färgrymden nästan helt och hållet, så du kan också redigera bilder/videor (sRGB) utan problem även med de små färgavvikelserna

Display Response Times

Display response times show how fast the screen is able to change from one color to the next. Slow response times can lead to afterimages and can cause moving objects to appear blurry (ghosting). Gamers of fast-paced 3D titles should pay special attention to fast response times.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

In comparison: 52 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 20917 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 3846000) Hz was measured.

Tack vare den matta ytan kan ThinkBook 13s G3 även användas utomhus på ett bra sätt. IPS-panelens betraktningsvinkelstabilitet motiverar inte mycket kritik.

Prestanda, utsläpp och batteritid

Även om ThinkBook 13s G2 är beroende av Intels Tiger Lake -processorer, utrustar Lenovo G3-modellerna med aktuella AMD Ryzen-chip. Vår testenhet är utrustad med den snabba Ryzen 7 5800U (Zen 3), men det finns också möjlighet att välja den Ryzen 5 5600U (färre CPU-kärnor och långsammare iGPU). Det finns ytterligare prestandainställningar i den förinstallerade Lenovo Vantage-appen, men vi använde förinställningen Intelligent Cooling för de efterföljande testerna och mätningarna.

Prestandan är överlag mycket bra eftersom processorn tillåts förbruka 30 W under en kort tid, för att sedan sjunka till 25 W. Detta värde kan bibehållas i cirka 5 minuter i vår Cinebench-slinga, och strömförbrukningen sjunker därefter till endast 14 W. CPU-prestandan, särskilt i flerkärniga tester, är betydligt högre än den för Intel Tiger Lake -varianten av ThinkBook 13s

Du kan använda det valfria läget Maximal prestanda för att få ut ännu mer prestanda. Här ökar TDP upp till 48 W, men begränsas sedan till 19 W efter några minuter. Åtminstone under korta perioder kan ThinkBook 13s G3 alltså erbjuda CPU-prestanda som fullfjädrade mobila arbetsstationer med 45 W CPU:er från Intel.

Grafikprestandan hos den integrerade Vega-8 GPU:n är också bra, men det sker en liten prestandaförlust vid längre belastning. Du får alltså räkna med en prestandaförlust på cirka 10-15 procent efter några minuters spelande. Beteendet är identiskt i batteriläge.

Det subjektiva prestandaintrycket är också mycket bra tack vare SSD. Alla ingångar genomförs snabbt och det fanns inga problem med latens i våra tester

På grund av prestandaförminskningen efter några minuter är yttemperaturerna helt ofarliga även i stresstestet. Vi mätte undersidetemperaturen till något över 40 °C, så att använda enheten på låren är möjligt utan större problem.

Fläktarna är tydligt hörbara med 42 dB(A) under belastning. Det är dock irriterande att fläktarna startar då och då även vid låg belastning, vilket gör att de verkar lite rastlösa. Det finns dock inga andra elektroniska ljud.
