The Lenovo Z51-70 tries to balance between a daily driver and a multimedia device, but fails to deliver both in one hit. We are impressed by the build quality and sturdiness of the machine and the input devices are also considerably a big advantage of the device. Designers from Lenovo were also able to keep the weight and height low, which is rather impressive given the price point – 2.3 kg and 24.6 mm thick profile.

The Lenovo Z51 offers a nice mix between utility and entertainment, with fast computing speeds and an excellent sound system. Unfortunately the machine’s multimedia identity is also somewhat marred by the lackluster display. Add to that problem the machine’s poor battery life, which will often leave you tethered to an outlet. Still the Z51 is an enticing package considering everything it offers for the less than $700 price point.

I like the speed the Lenovo Z51 offers for the price, as well as its comfy keyboard and fairly powerful JBL speakers. However, the limited colors offered by the 15-inch display undermine its multimedia mission. I also wish you could use this system unplugged for longer. If you're on a tighter budget, the Core i3-powered Dell Inspiron 15 5000 ($449) offers solid performance and longer battery life.

Spend a little extra money and buy a laptop that looks as good as the Z51, but performs as well as its competitors. Both the ZenBook UX305 and the Acer Aspire V7 are better-suited for the student and educator, despite lacking the same number of ports and connections as the Z51.

Available with options ranging up to Core i7 power (although buyers in that segment will want a better IPS screen), the Lenovo Z51 is an affordable alternative to low-quality, low-resolution budget laptops. Otherwise, the Z51 provides fair value, especially at $569 with a 500GB hard drive.

Lenovo:

Det här är mindre avancerade grafikkort för användare som ändå vill kunna spela spel. Nya spel bör vara spelbara, men ofta bara med låga detaljinställningar och låg upplösning. Eftersom moderna grafikkort i den här klassen har låg strömförbrukning kan även batteritiden vara bra.
