Speaking of speed, the Helios 700 is the zippiest we've tested with the exception of i9-9900K-based models; no surprise given that the laptop H series processors have a lower power envelope than their desktop analogs. (At its maximum overclocking in the Helios, the processor draws about 107 watts.) But you don't really gain much by running in Extreme mode for gaming -- the biggest boost seems to be on RTX ray tracing (as measured by 3DMark Port Royal), and that's only about 10%. You do have the option of using different overclocking settings for the CPU and GPU.

The Acer Predator Helios 700 is a straight-up beast when it comes to performance. To top it off, this machine has a great cooling system and boasts a comfortable keyboard, all wrapped in an innovative design. Despite all that, the display and audio don't live up to gaming laptop standards.

We’ll get this out of way first, because everyone wants to know about the “value” word. There is none. While the $3,999 price for the specs above is on a par with comparable laptops from the competition, this is no blue-plate special. However, if you’re looking for a no-compromise gaming laptop, take a hard look at the Acer Predator Helios 700. Sure, it loses some contests to the desktop-CPU-equipped Alienware Area 51m R1, but it’s as fast and sometimes faster in others.

If you do happen to slot right into the Helios’ narrow niche, you’ll get excellent performance. It’s incredibly powerful. But even in that scenario, the noise levels might spoil your fun. If at all possible, try before you buy or at least ensure you have the option of returning for a full refund. It’s a subjective call, but this rig makes a massive din and we’re confident it will be a deal breaker for some. We’re glad the Acer Predator Helios 700 exists. It’s interesting. It’s innovative. And it’s very, very fast. It’s also very compromised. Thus, it’s not a laptop we can recommend without major caveats. But if you’ve processed this portable’s peccadilloes and think it might still suit your needs, it deserves a spot on your shortlist. There’s little else quite like it.

The main caveat is the serious impact to portability, while the lack of built-in 4K visuals and crazy-loud fans are also sore points. If that doesn’t put you off and you’ve got enough bank spare, then this Predator certainly has an incredible amount of bite.

The Acer Predator Helios 700 is the most powerful gaming laptop we’ve tested so far. However, it’s also very heavy, stretching the definition of the term "portable", and VERY loud, not to mention expensive. It's ideal for those new to overclocking and PC gaming, who perhaps don’t want to get into modding and tweaking just yet.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Mobile:

De här grafikkorten bör klara av alla nuvarande spel med acceptabel bildfrekvens, men inte nödvändigtvis med höga inställningar. Särskilt krävande spel kanske bara fungerar med låga inställningar. Till skillnad från prestandakorten hittar man däremot de här grafikkorten i bärbara datorer av lite mindre format med bättre batteritid.
