Hogwarts Legacy, developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Games, is an action role-playing game set in the 1890s, roughly a century before the Harry Potter novels. Players create a student, attend Hogwarts, learn spells, brew potions, tame magical creatures and explore the surrounding countryside. Combat, progression and exploration form the core of an adventure that also allows players to make allies and confront dark wizards.

Reception has generally been positive, although player opinions vary. OpenCritic lists an aggregate score of 88%, while Reddit discussions months after launch show players praising its recreation of Hogwarts, exploration and atmosphere. Criticism revolves around repetitive open-world activities, a lack of meaningful choices, underdeveloped side characters and storylines. Either way, it ranks in 20th place on the list of best-selling video games worldwide, having sold 40 million copies by December 2025.

Hogwarts Legacy is currently available for Nintendo Switch at a 90% discount for $5.99, down from $59.99, with the sale lasting until October 13. The Switch version also includes the Haunted Hogsmeade Shop quest, an additional dungeon and an in-game shop.
