I'm happy to see Asus put good effort into their mainstream lineup of thin-and-light ultrabooks and improve the ZenBook 14 OLED in this UX3402 generation. They included excellent 16:10 display options with this update, revamped the design and ergonomics, bumped the performance capabilities by implementing Intel Core P hardware, and bundled a larger battery inside. The efficiency is still somewhat lacking with these Intel platforms, though, and the weight of this series has increased a bit from the previous model.

The notebook also gets noisy and warm when taxed, but as I said, the same can be said for just about any Intel-powered notebook. The most obvious rival is Lenovo’s Yoga Slim 7 Carbon. The Lenovo also has an OLED display and, because of its carbon fibre chassis, is considerably lighter. However, the ZenBook counters with its lower price tag and superior connectivity. The ZenBook has Thunderbolt ports, which is arguably the Yoga Slim 7 Carbon greatest weakness. All things considered, the ZenBook 14 OLED UX3402 is remarkable value and should be considered as one of the best bang for buck notebooks you can buy right now, especially with some of the current year-end offers pushing the price below S$1,700. If you are shopping for a notebook, this absolutely has to be on your shortlist.

For me personally though, I don’t know if it’s worth paying that much for it over something like the much more capable Acer Swift X, which has stellar performance. Starting at RM4,299, it packs an AMD Ryzen 5 5600U with 8GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD and even has an RTX3050 Ti in it for good measure. However, it does lose out considerably when it comes to the display, and the Zenbook 14 OLED does seem to have the edge in battery life too. But for RM100 less than what the comparably specced Zenbook 14 OLED goes for, it’s hard to not consider it especially if you need the graphics power. I guess with all that being said, it really just comes down to what you—the person who’s actually using it—wants in a laptop. I mean, I get it now yes: OLED displays really are amazing, but I still don’t know if it’s worth paying the extra for it. But if you’re someone who finds that having a good display is just as important or even more important than the silicon under the hood, the Zenbook 14 OLED might just be the one to get.

However, now, when compared to the ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED, the Huawei Matebook 14s just doesn’t seem so impressive after all. We’ve got to say that the ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED is certainly a very competitive notebook PC. Priced at S$1899, it is S$100 cheaper than our subject for comparison. Moreover, it even comes with a OLED display, which one-ups the overall entertainment experience of the notebook. Thanks to the latest 12th Generation Intel Core processor, this also allows the notebook to run so much faster. Together with the latest chipset, its DDR5 memory and support for PCIe 4.0 SSD simply makes the notebook an almost perfect notebook for today. It even weighs lighter and is more portable. Suddenly, the Huawei Matebook 14s just seems to have totally lost its ground and retains no value to a consumer anymore.

The ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED (UX3402) is one of those laptops that I can recommend to most interested users without hesitation. It has almost everything you would expect from a laptop of this class, although, of course, there are some drawbacks. Let me start with them. I didn’t quite like the built-in speakers, as they produce a sound that is almost devoid of low tones. Also worth mentioning is the rather high temperature of the case if we use the full power of the equipment. Still, the Intel Core i7 1260P is powerful, but also quite hot. The Intel Core i5 1240P, which is also used in the ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED (UX3402), would have been enough for me. Also, the camera still leaves much to be desired, although this is a problem with almost all Windows laptops. Speaking of prices, it should be understood that this is a premium product and there are no low prices in this segment anymore. I also missed the included stylus, but that’s another story. But after spending a fairly significant amount of your money, you get a top-of-the-line Zenbook laptop. The build quality is very high, and I really liked the updated design of the aluminium case. It has almost everything you would expect from a laptop of this class, although, of course, there are some drawbacks. Let me start with them. I didn’t quite like the built-in speakers, as they produce a sound that is almost devoid of low tones. Also worth mentioning is the rather high temperature of the case if we use the full power of the equipment. Still, the Intel Core i7 1260P is powerful, but also quite hot. The Intel Core i5 1240P, which is also used in the ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED (UX3402), would have been enough for me. Also, the camera still leaves much to be desired, although this is a problem with almost all Windows laptops. Speaking of prices, it should be understood that this is a premium product and there are no low prices in this segment anymore. I also missed the included stylus, but that’s another story. But after spending a fairly significant amount of your money, you get a top-of-the-line Zenbook laptop. The build quality is very high, and I really liked the updated design of the aluminium case. While the core laptop hasn’t changed, the Q420 Zenbook 14X OLED model is a far more appealing configuration price-wise. The processor is still fast—beyond merely capable—even if it doesn’t quite stack up to the Core i9 version. The move to an integrated GPU is the main downgrade, but it does keep costs down, and the GPU version is available if you need it. Halved storage is not ideal, but plenty of you don’t need more than 512GB for normal office and personal files. In short, the options are available for different users, and this Q420 model as tested is an appealing value. The portability and style come through at this lower price as much as they do in the more expensive version. Versus other systems, this one drives decent speed for less; we just wouldn’t recommend it to the same class of enthusiasts and creative pros as we would more powerful alternatives. For most shoppers, though, the Asus Zenbook 14X OLED (Q420) is the best total package for the price, earning our Editors' Choice award.

Asus Zenbook 14X OLED (2023) Review

The Asus Zenbook 14X OLED has an impressive, sleek look and clever design choices, like the built-in numerical keypad or the use of 30% recycled plastics in the chassis. The laptop runs on a high-end Intel processor, has the right amount of RAM, and enough storage space. The keyboard, trackpad, and touchscreen reliably registered all my inputs and were smooth to the touch. A vivid OLED display and Harman Kardon speakers with Dolby Atmos sound make this Zenbook come alive. Most modern productivity laptops perform at a fairly high level, so our subjective experience was much better than our benchmark numbers suggest. If you need extra performance, you could get the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus, but you’d have to make do without an OLED screen. If your main objective is outstanding battery life and a sub-par keyboard won’t phase you, the HP Dragonfly Pro (2023) has more than double the battery life of the Zenbook 14X OLED. Our main gripe is the port placement.

Det här är mindre avancerade grafikkort för användare som ändå vill kunna spela spel. Nya spel bör vara spelbara, men ofta bara med låga detaljinställningar och låg upplösning. Eftersom moderna grafikkort i den här klassen har låg strömförbrukning kan även batteritiden vara bra.
Intel Iris Xe G7 96EUs:
Integrerat grafikkort i Intel Tiger Lake G4 SoCs som bygger på den nya Gen. 12-arkitekturen med 96 EUs (Execution Units / Shader Cluster). Klockfrekvensen beror på processormodellen. Tiger Lake-kretsarna tillverkas i den moderna 10nm+-processen hos Intel.
